The young lad that I dealt with was excellent. The original unit that they had me renting had a huge gash in the side, the young lad quickly grabbed a different unit and gave it to me. The truck itself was fairly clean, the cab had some mud or something in it that didn't wash out well and the inside of the window was filthy, splattered with something. The windshield wipers were pretty much useless, just moved the water from one side to the other, the road film build up was so bad I could hardly see through it. fortunately it only rained for a few minuets so it was tolerable. Some of the moving pads were a little dirty, one was covered with grass or something. The appliance dolly was not in the best of shape,, it worked but really needs to have some repairs done or replaced. The belting on the back of the dolly to assist on stairs would have fallen off it I had to use it on stairs. The other issue that I have is that I asked for a 15 foot van and was supplied a 20 foot. I originally wanted a trailer but the rate for a trailer was $600 so I went for a truck instead. This move involved a ferry crossing and since it is a uhaul truck it is classified as commercial so the extra 5 feet of van cost me more money to get on the ferry as we have to pay by the foot for commercial. As far as would I recommend the pick up location, since it is the only one in this town, you are pretty well stuck with them. The young lad was outstanding in his dealings with me, but the location itself really leaves a bit to be desired. Dog patch springs to mind. Overall a decent uhaul experiance. I have used uhaul many times and I would say that this was one of my best times. I would have rated the pick up location higher if it wasn't such a hill billy operation.

Well the first trailer I got had faulty brakes on it---had trouble about a half mile up the road when I tried to slow down to turn onto a side road, ended up there was a hydraulic line leaking, had to return that trailer and get a second one, it worked fine but when I returned it in Nanaimo the fellow at the drop site noticed the hitch was not done up and the trailer could've come loose, the trailer was hooked up/connected etc by the rental agent in Powell River, not what I would consider a good experience but no harm done

Needs to have a greater availability of various sized vehicles. the 20' trucks available cost a huge sum of money when used on BC Ferries as they are classified as commercial vehicles (by weight) and are therefore charged nearly double the regular fare, plus $6+ per foot, over 20' in length.

I am furious with U Haul. I reserved a 5 by 8 Trailer to be picked up in Sechelt. I was called a day before and told there were no trailers available. We are a ferry community, I was asked to take a ferry to Vancouver to pick one up on a Friday. There were no ferry reservations available. I ended up taking a different ferry to Powell River to pick up the only trailer available. It was smaller than I had requested and I paid 139.00 to come back on the ferry to my home to load it. Paul at Vanderkemp in Powell River was FANTASTIC! His customer service was amazing, he found me a receiver as I had forgotten in in the stress of having to take the ferry to pick up. He also helped me with the hitching up and electrical and made a huge effort to get me to the ferry on time. I wish I had more notice of the lack of availability!
