I booked under one rate at a closer location, n ever got the confirmation then had to rebook day of. Instead of the $19.99 rate they charged us $125 and instead of .47 per mile I had pre booked. this felt like a horrible webiste, worse outsourced 800 services and bait and switch. If someone doesn't proactively reach out I will post on yelp.

Personnel who handle returns work quickly and efficiently. Although I did not have an equipment pickup today, I have had delays in the past because people behind the counter appeared less than enthusiastic about taking care of waiting customers.



When I got the van it stunk like cat litter. everything else was fine.

Have more than one agent to service pick up customers. One customer stayed with the agent for at least an hour while other agents told me to wait for that particular agent.

The people at the location were very nice. However, I have a strong complaint as to the information, or lack thereof, that is given to customers. I rented a 10' truck and was NOT told that there are restrictions on parking. I parked for one night in New York (before driving down to Virginia) and even though I was parked legally, I received a ticket for parking a commercial vehicle on a residential street. How else would someone move from one place to another?! Again, I was NOT told that this was considered a commercial vehicle - which you need a special license to drive - and the vehicle does not have commercial plates. The U-haul website specifically says this as well. I moved OUT of NY and in order to dispute this with the judge, I would need to go all the way back for something that was not my fault. I expect some sort of compensation.

There were no moving blankets available even though I'd reserved some. The dolly I'd reserved didn't appear on my order and it took extra time to get a hold of one. And even though I'd called ahead to reserve an extra day, that didn't appear on the order either. So not exactly smooth sailing. Still, the woman at the counter was helpful and kind and the equipment itself was fine.

This is the second time I've rented with U-Haul in NY and each time, it felt like a huge mistake. I rented a van and opted for the self-service option per a recommendation from U-Haul (via email). When I arrived at the location, I couldn't locate the van and the office was closed. The two customer service representatives that I spoke to, implied that I was at fault for selecting the self-service option. Which is just foolish as I did that at a recommendation from U-Haul (the company they represent). I had to go to another location to pick up the van. My frustration with the process stems from the idea that a customer who selects self-service should be blamed when U-Haul doesn't honor his/her reservations, and the fact that I had to go out of my way in the cold to another store.

The 4th Ave staff is incredible. Friendly and accommodating. Moving is STRESSFUL AND TERRIBLE so to have the assistance and assurance of such an knowledgeable and kind crew is hugely appreciated. Each team member explained every step, every charge, and gave every option- I felt like I was getting special treatment as a regular customer but it’s obvious they give 10,000% to each customer. The agent on the phone (I realize this was probably an off site call center) was sweet but gave several bits of misinformation- most notably the hours. My only complaint! But the person to person experience at that location was really off the charts.

We went to the location and presented a debit card, different from the one we used to make the reservation, to be used for payment. For whatever reason, THAT card wasn't used and the entire rental was charged to the first card which ended up overdrawing our account and costing us $70 in fees. Had U-haul used the proper card, that wouldn't have happened. Additionally, although not rude or nasty, the woman who took care of us was anything but friendly.
