I arrived at 10am. There was a sign on the office door saying the office was closed, but to call a certain number if picking up. Called the number and received no answer. Then this guy came up to my car. About 5'10, 5'11. Didn't say who he was or anything, but I assumed he worked there since he asked me what I was doing there. I told him I was there to pick up a uhaul I reserved online. I asked him if he also had any hitches for sale because my farmer took all mine that morning to use in the fields. He said no. So I asked him where there were some for sale (he didn't know). Told him I would be back once I got another hitch. He told me when I came back that the trailers were in the back on the left, couldn't miss em and to go ahead and help myself. Then he got in a black pickup truck and drove off. Didn't ask for any ID, paperwork, anything. so I went and bought another hitch, and came back, and followed the guy's instruction and drove back to the left, saw the trailer I had reserved online. Luckily, I'm a farm girl and have hitched a trailer before because there was NO ONE around to help. The guy was gone, not even someone at their storage unit. Took me about 30 mins to hook up because the rubber washers were gone on the chains, and since it was parked in gravel, the trailer did not want to move! So I had to carefully back up inch by inch into position. Once hooked up, I didn't even see the electrical connection for the trailer, and luckily wasn't stopped on the way home! The next morning I received a call from the area manager that he saw the uhaul trailer outside my house and picked it up because the trailer did not have a contract on it! He saw that I had reserved it thought and luckily called me. I explained my experience the day before and came back, sorted the paperwork out and even helped me rehook up the trailer (which is when we noticed I needed an adapter and that the electrical wasn't hooked in the day before). The area manager was awesome! Granted it was a shocked and confusing morning, but he made things right. He even offered for me to return the trailer at a different location, which I happily took, because after everything that happened at the pick up location, I didn't want any more trouble with this trailer.Nicole W.

This location is just starting out and did not have the plastic mattress moving cover that I paid for ahead of time. I was charged $4.25 for them and I did not receive them. I went to the Pershing Road location and bought them again. Please refund me that $4.25.Jeffrey V.
I made 3 total calls with one ending up on an answering machine. The lady was polite but that is where the good experience ended. On the day of pick up I showed up 15 minutes after they opened and was told by a young male I would have to wait until he finished his McDonald's breakfast. I said "nope" you need to wait on the customer first. Finding that my cart was not on the truck he said that he knew nothing of it. It was on the contract and they were going to charge me for it. I said I am calling U-haul and he responded, "You called here 4 times (a exaggerated lie) and I don't really care who you call!" I called the national u-haul office and they had another location but I was short on time so I took the truck where I reserved 2 weeks earlier. The Illinois U-haul manager must have had a "chat" with the young man because he did apologize. Although he did apologize his rude behavior was completely unacceptable. I really think U-haul needs to be careful who represents them. I doubt that I would ever need to use U-haul in Decatur again but I would hate to have my wife or someone's mother show up with this male in charge. I do not recommend them. There is a very good dealer Billingsley Auto Service Inc that is #1 in Decatur. Use them.Roger T.
The pick-up location was great - no complaints there. However, this is directed at the U-Haul company. There are two U-Haul outlets in the city I live in, but neither one had the truck I reserved almost 3 months ago. I found out with only a few hours of notice that I had to drive 40 miles to pick up the truck I reserved. Can't U-Haul get the equipment to the desired pick-up location - especially when there is a reservation made quite awhile in advance? I appreciate the discount that was made, but the last minute change really made us scramble, including having to take time off work.Christopher M.
Office lady was really nice. Not real happy that i brought the trailer back but couldnt get into the facility. Another U-Haui renter was at the facility returning his truck and actually got locked in. There were no emergency contact numbers for the property. I was able to locate the owner of the business and sent him a message on social media but didnt get a response until late the same night. Said he can have stuff left outside of his property and they are not open on Sundays. Well if this is the case there needs to be more communication between the warehouse and the customer. I sat there for over an hour trying to get in. Eventually U-Haul customer service told me to just drop the trailer outside and they would document it.BEN M.
First of all my reservation which was CONFIRMED # 28303639 was NOT READY! We were supposed to pick up this truck in Petersburg, IL! Do to YOUR change in pick up location - it is difficult to honestly rate this second location! Because you did not have the truck at the original # 28303639 CONFIRMED - Petersburg, IL location, we had to arrange to pick a truck up in Decatur, IL. 66 miles miles away from where we were moving from! It took almost 3 hours, round trip to pick up this truck and arrange another person to drive with us to Decatur. Moving the location to pick up this truck delayed our move! It cost us an additional $32.00 Dollars in gas for our car and the truck!John T.
We brought truck back early and no one was there. Sign in window said that they would be closed two days for holidays. Called Uhaul headquarters and they were able to contact the people at home and we were told what to do. Uhaul was very cordial and wanted to solve our problem.GEORGE G.
The pickup location was great. The problem was that it was over an hour from where I reserved my truck. I made reservations weeks before only to find out one day before my move that reservations don't actually mean you get a truck. It took numerous phone calls before I finally had to accept a truck smaller than I needed an hour away. How many moves has your company ruined through your inefficient reservation process? I was backed into a corner since there were no other options on such short notice. I made it work, but you added time, stress, and expense to my move. I won't be recommending uhaul to anyone.JAMES T.

The vehicle rented was in good condition and did its job well. Beyond that, the experience was poor. I arrived at about 8:15 to pick up my reservation and the man behind the counter (the only person working there) was not trained to check out U-Haul vehicles. He had to be guided through the process by phone. I'm not upset with him - he was nice and genuinely helpful, but completely untrained. It took over half an hour to finally get keys and head out, and I was the only customer. I was told to have the van back by 6:00pm that day. I arrived to turn in my rental at 4:30 pm and the office was closed and locked up. I was never able to officially check the van back in. I did leave a voice mail for them and was able to jam the key into a small slot used to make storage unit payments. I did not hear back, so I assume my return was processed in the morning. Or, it is possible they forgot they rented one out.DANIEL R.
