Their computers were so slow they couldn't even add my extra driver information to the account, leaving us in an awkward position - they let us proceed though. We are in an age where a national moving company should have adequate computers to serve its customers (including effective internet service and proper internal business network software), protect its employees from having to circumvent contract terms, and leave customers vulnerable by not having proper paperwork and coverage for drivers. Absurd! Second, they should check that the trucks etc. are in proper working order, from engine to tires, back door including the guide rails, front cab and the various mechanisms that control parts of the truck. They don't. Aside from the many various small issues with the truck we rented (my steering wheel was at a 35 degree angle from where it should be on the steering column, so keeping the truck straight meant having the wheel oddly placed higher on the left side - fun), frustratingly, the driver's side window of my rental was off its track and would not roll-up passed the mid-point of the window-frame. They had no other trucks within 90 miles that were big enough to fit our needs. Upon inspection, the entire window was off the guiding rail from top-to-bottom, which could not have been a "new" problem, therefore U-Haul was either aware of the problem, or was negligently unaware due to their failure to properly inspect the vehicle after its previous turn in, and while on its lot in its possession, then allowing a customer to leave with it as such - all the while advertising that they are renting you "the Best Equipment" inducing you to trust the reliability of the vehicle etc. We had the choice to either reschedule our cross-country move (yeah-right, who is paying for that) or accept the half-open window as is (basically to accept half-assed equipment and service). The majority of people, plan and execute their move in a specific time frame that does not have much leeway as there are many variables to deal with on each side. Seems like a situation of putting the customer under duress in their decision to rent (Customers arrive at the lot with a receipt and reasonable expectation of quality, reliability and equipment availability, only to be told that none of that applies while on the lot unless it's a slow time for U-Haul and they have extra availability at the store or elsewhere in the vicinity. If the customer tells U-Haul there is a problem, "no truck for you" unless you drive another 90 miles to pick it up. Ahem, Nope U-Haul, you have a driver get it down to the agreed upon pick-up site - we can abide an unforeseen problem, but not when that problem is caused by your equipment and/or automotive repair failure; then compounded by your lack of appropriate customer service!) Hearing that they are faced with losing the vehicle, the customer realizes their move will be thrown into chaos and expenses could be doubled, so the customer is

Even worse was the people who received the truck. They are supposed to be after hours for receiving the truck. There was still one person in charge of telling where to park the truck. Very nasty and unpleasant attitude towards where and how to park. Anyhow. Never again shall I use u-haul services ever again

The location was understaffed to the extent that it took 45 minutes for me to pick up my rental vehicle after I arrived (and after my reservation time). Also, I have been overcharged for both mileage and gas use due to what I suspect is poor record keeping at the location. The overcharge has essentially doubled my bill.

The size vehicle I reserved was not available at the agreed-upon time. Luckily, there was a comparable vehicle (2 feet larger) available, but it took some time and a number of phone calls by U-Haul staff before this vehicle was made available. It was frustrating that the vehicle I reserved was not available.

the gas estimates were completely misstated. I received the truck at 1/2 a tank and filled it up when I was nearly on empty (truck said less than 20 miles to go). the paperwork I got from Uhaul said it was 20 gallons to get it back to 1/2 tank. I filled up 19 gallon and ended up with a tank that was over 3/4 full. please ensure that the estimates are closer to reality.

Note that this location was closed when I arrived but the grounds were unkept. It was also the 2nd drop off location I went to. The first one in Brooklyn (69-75 Van Dam?) was only 5 minutes from where I moved my daughters furnishings. I arrived there at 11PM and proceeded to back the trailer in to a space. The worker inside came out and told me that he refuses to accept the trailer as it's not part of his fleet! I told him that in the morning someone would probably come by and take it. He replied by saying all the spots are for his own fleet and I need to remove the trailer. So I went to the Jersey City location. It took an hour and a half to get there and a total of $39.00 in tolls!. Between the staffing issues here in Montreal and in Brooklyn NY, it is obvious in your case that sometimes the business model allows for a successful business in spite of untrained or rude staff or faulty IT software....and....NO ONE EVER TOLD ME WHAT TO DO should I get a flat. Seems like a normal thing to advise your clients when they pick up a trailer or truck. And don't tell me to call customer service. When I tried to call while I was having problems with the Brooklyn NY location, I tried calling your firm on the CS#. It would have been so easy to simply have a human answer the phone. Instead you redirect me all over your phone system and never actually get to speak to someone. Such a poor experience. Charge a bit more and pull up your socks.

Late at night, the drop off lane was backed up with returned trucks and there was no way to bring trucks or cars in or out of the parking lot. I had to drive the truck over the curb in order to get it into the parking lot. They should not overbook a location for trucks being returned. This is poor management and planning.
