was told on the phone to deliver early at a new location i wasnt told originally to go to. my gps said “arrived” when i was in the middle of a highway. turned out it was at a drop a key location in a smoke shop in jersey city. that would have been nice to know on the phone. the lady that helped me after i had to call customer service for help, literally said yeah people always get lost there. that should be in the instructions that its the smoke shop off of the highway, tiny uhaul sign in the door. otherwise the car was great and very clean. will rent in chatham again but not delivering back to jersey city again. the man in jersey city was helpful once i found the location

I had a very troubling and unsafe experience with a U-Haul truck rented from the My Quick Stop location. The truck was provided with no gas, which was the first indication that it may not have been properly inspected prior to rental. Before even leaving the lot, the dashboard displayed a warning indicating that the tire required servicing, which I have documented with photographs. In addition, the cab smelled strongly of cigarette smoke, further suggesting a lack of appropriate vehicle preparation. While driving on a very busy street, the truck suddenly began beeping, multiple dashboard warning lights illuminated, and the engine shut off entirely. We were forced to take immediate action to pull over under extremely hazardous conditions. Shortly thereafter, we noticed a strong, unpleasant odor and observed smoke coming from the engine compartment. This situation was terrifying and posed a serious risk to our safety as well as to other motorists, even when stopped because a portion of the truck remained in the street. The truck would not restart, and we were unable to use the horn or activate the hazard lights. With the outside temperature at approximately 30 degrees, we were left stranded in a highly vulnerable situation. When I contacted the My Quick Stop location to report the emergency, the response was dismissive and lacked any concern for our safety. No apology was offered, nor was there any inquiry regarding our well-being. After the incident, I returned to the store to confirm that they were aware the truck had been towed and was no longer in our possession. At that time, the staff’s primary focus appeared to be on charging me and determining the location of the key, rather than acknowledging or addressing the seriousness of a potentially fatal mechanical failure. This incident reflects a serious breakdown in vehicle maintenance, safety oversight, and customer care. A vehicle in this condition should never have been rented, and the response from the My Quick Stop location was wholly inappropriate given the gravity of the situation.
