I paid $500 for a 20 foot truck to drive from SC to NC. The air conditioning did not work and my 70 year old father had to drive in 95 degree heat for 4 hours to SC . As soon as we picked up the truck and drove it to my house that is 9 minutes away from the rental spot we noticed the air conditioning wasn’t getting cold . I called the manager / owner to tell him and he never answered the phone or called me back. Anyone I’ve talked to at U-Haul said I should have contacted road side assistance and asked for another truck . I didn’t have time to wait on another truck . I had ppl there to help me move . I’m not going to make them wait around for another truck . We were on a schedule . The truck should have been sent through a check list and serviced to make sure it was working properly. Then when we got to NC to unload the truck . The cable on the back door broke . When I dropped off the truck when I was done with it . I told Phil the AC wasn’t working and to please check to confirm and he did. He also said the ac isn’t working after checking it. Now I’m having to jump through hoops with U-Haul customer service to get compensation for no AC for 4 hours in 95 degree heat and a broken back door to unload all my belongings.
