The U-Haul truck was missing a side mirror when I picked it up. I had to bring the issue to the staff's attention before they addressed it. While they eventually installed a replacement mirror, it caused an unnecessary delay. A vehicle should never be rented out without a properly installed side mirror, as it is an essential safety feature. In addition, my reservation was mistakenly canceled after I had already picked up the truck because it was assumed that I had missed my pickup appointment. I had to contact U-Haul to have the reservation reinstated. This was particularly important because an active reservation was required to ensure I could properly return the truck at my destination. This issue caused additional inconvenience and could have been avoided with better coordination.

I picked up the truck using my mobile so the key was in the key pad. When I arrived to my location in NYC the back latch had a lock and the lock key was not attached to the truck keys or nowhere to be found. I called customer service and the first Representative response was “oh just take the truck back for refund and get a new one”. I told him do even see how far I am from the location I rented the truck ? About 30 miles! Then he transferred me to road side assistance and was told nothing could be done. I didn’t take that answer because I know this situation has happened before. I called again and finally found Miriam who was so kind and helpful. She actually got me someone to break the lock. I did have to wait an hour for the person to arrive, but at least the problem was solved. The whole ordeal until I finally arrived home took 6 hrs instead of the 3 hrs planned. This facility and ALL facilities need to make sure the trucks are ready in all aspects before the customer arrives. A lot of these places are closed by 5:00 PM so it’s not fare for us customers to be subjected to this type of situations so stressful. Moving is already stressful enough. I hope they improve on checking their trucks/equipments.
