Was scammed. Hard to park and find. Hours are inconvenient. Charged for gas at an astronomical price. Would have just filled it myself. Was charged for mileage when I had asked how many miles I had and I knew it wasn’t enough. Was told “we usually give extra”

I am submitting this complaint because my recent U‑Haul rental was not only frustrating and exhausting, but genuinely dangerous. I rented a truck in Murrieta to move my son to UCSB, and the experience that followed was completely unacceptable. I was never told that the truck would need to be returned to a towing company instead of a U‑Haul facility. After unloading miles away, I spent over 30 minutes navigating narrow downtown Santa Barbara streets in a 15‑foot truck, searching for a U‑Haul center that didn’t exist. The towing company’s representative told me to “park anywhere,” which is unreasonable and unsafe advice for a vehicle of that size. After circling the area repeatedly, I finally found a spot and then had to walk 20 minutes back to the towing yard just to tell them where the truck was. This was after a full day of moving, and I was exhausted. The truck itself was a hazard. The transmission repeatedly failed in traffic, causing violent forward jerks that felt like collisions. The brakes were unreliable — the truck continued moving forward even when I pressed the pedal, forcing me into the emergency lane to avoid hitting another vehicle. Only after pumping the brakes multiple times did they begin to work. This is an unacceptable safety risk. Despite returning the truck with more fuel than I received it with, I was told I would not be credited. And to add insult to injury, I was charged an extra $1.09 because the mileage exceeded the estimate — a direct result of being forced to drive miles out of my way to an unexpected drop‑off location. This entire experience was stressful, unsafe, and far below the standard of service I expect. Given the misleading instructions, the dangerous mechanical issues, and the unnecessary charges, I am requesting reimbursement of the rental cost. This is a reasonable expectation considering the circumstances. I expect a timely response.
andy bNo spaces to park vehicle, no help from the facility. Terrible all around service, despicable that this is considered a drop off location.
Finley CSimply place larger U-Haul signage on the fence & gate facing the street. Towing business misleads U-Haul customers. We were treated very well and respectfully by the shop personnel. Maybe add designated parking areas on the street.
MICHAEL HNice people and organized !!!
