Trailer Transfer FAQ
- What equipment am I transferring?
- You will be picking up a trailer at the agreed upon location and delivering it to the destination location included in your email. This image shows a 15’ U-Haul truck towing a similar trailer to what you will be transferring.
- Where do I pick the equipment up?
- You will pick the equipment up at the location listed in your email. Let them know you have arrived to pick up the transfer trailer and they will hook it up to your truck.
- Where do I drop the equipment off?
- You will drop the equipment off at the location listed on your email. They will unhook the equipment from your truck, and you’ll be on your way!
- Can I drop the trailer off at the same time I drop off my truck?
- We recommend you drop off the trailer first to make unloading your truck easier.
- Can I drop the trailer off at any U-Haul location?
- In order to receive payment, you will need to drop the equipment off at the agreed upon location that is listed in your email.
- Can I drop the trailer off when the location is closed?
- Yes, you can leave the trailer near the other trailers on the U-Haul lot. Please watch this video to see how to safely unhook the trailer from your truck.
- How and when do I get paid?
- Once the equipment has been received at the agreed upon location, we will process a payment to your credit card used to pay for your truck rental.
- What if I encounter additional tolls for the trailer?
- You will be responsible for paying the tolls for the U-Haul truck, but we will reimburse you for any additional tolls you will be paying for the extra trailer. Simply reply to your transfer details email and attach copies of your toll receipts, and we will include the extra toll fees in addition to the payment we agreed to give you for transferring the equipment.
- Why does U-Haul want me to transfer this trailer?
- U-Haul routinely moves its equipment to areas with the most demand.
- Can I use the trailer to transport my own goods?
- No. The trailer is locked and unable to be accessed.
- Can I unhook the trailer from my truck?
- We recommend keeping the trailer connected to the U-Haul truck for the entirety of your trip. If you do have to unhook the trailer, please watch this video to learn how to properly disconnect and reconnect the trailer.

- What happens if the trailer breaks down or is in an accident?
- In the event of an accident U-Haul provides coverage for the trailer, however we suggest you take the SafeMove coverage for the U-Haul truck. If you have an issue with any of our U-Haul equipment, contact Roadside Assistance at https://uhaul.com/Help/ or at 1 800-528-0355
- Who do I contact with additional concerns or if I no longer wish to participate?
