After reserving a trailer three weeks in advance at a location 5 miles from our home, I got diverted to a location 25 miles away less than 24 hours prior to pick-up as they didn't have a trailer available for us. WOW. So called the new location at 3 pm asking if we could arrive early for our 5 pm pick-up and they said okay because they would be CLOSED at 5 pm! SO strike 2 on this adventure. When arriving the auto transport trailer was facing the wrong direction for easy hook-up (next to rental trucks and facing an open field with no room to turn around once connected) and had obvious damage from previous use with a crack in the frame next to the bumper (it was noted with a damager sticker, so someone had inspected it at some point, but still offered some concern for a long distance one-way pull). Anyway, noted left passenger tired looked off visually as well, but tread seemed fine. So accepted the trailer with some concerns as I was now behind schedule even with the early pick-up as I was now dealing with longer distances and rush hour traffic. Oh joy. I had to help the employee check myself in using the Uhaul software behind the counter as he was having a difficult time with that, but we got through it. No big deal. Then he asked me if I was okay with hooking it up myself. Ummm, okay. Whatever. I've hooked up a lot of trailers, so I headed out and started the process. He eventually came out and helped guide me to the tongue and lowered the trailer to the ball. He handed me the chains to hook up, I hooked up the safety chain and then he headed back in. I hooked up the lights. Did my own light check and then I had to back the entire rig out of the lot about 300 yards between the rental trucks and POV's on the lot so I could leave. Fast forward to loading day the next day and upon loading the vehicle, the suspect tire on the passenger side went flat. So, called roadside service and waited another 1.5 hours for a flat repair. So this was not a good start to my travel adventure. Oh, forgot the mention the rubber pulls to hold the folding bumper in place on the driver side were also torn in half, so they were hanging on by half of the rubber left. So I had duct tape and zip ties on the ready. The safety chains to secure the vehicle to the trailer were also missing the rubber safety clips to secure them and since I was heading into the western U.S. where wildfires are a problem, I super secures those chains with my own supplies. I know these are rentals, but common. I rented the same type of trailer a month ago with no problems for a lot less money.

U-Haul technology has not improved the service.Just because the tech exists doesnt mean you have to use it

When we arrived (on time) the owner was 15 mins late and didn’t know what to do until us wife got there (even later). They couldn’t get to our reservation or know how the system worked. It pushed us an hour and half back on our move and we had lots of schedules waiting on us. The equipment itself had tire issues, dif fluid issues and more. After finally dealing with an off-location manager, we were helped within minutes and they made it right. Overall, I would not recommend this location.
