I've rented from Uhaul for moves in the past and have been disappointed every time...this experience was no different. I was called the morning of my rental to be informed that a truck was not available, but a smaller truck was...only it had a flat and needed to be repaired. My reservation was for 3pm. I got a call just before 3 to inform me the truck wouldn't be available because there was more damage than just a flat tire. Why wait until the day the truck is needed to fix a problem? Due to the market in this area, I could not secure another truck on such short notice, lost some of my moving help due to this issue, and was extremely disappointed. To the credit of the management, they did call me about 15-20 mins. after 3 to tell me they had a cancellation and the truck I had reserved was now available. This whole process put me behind schedule, but I did end up with the truck I rented. Unfortunately, my son-in-law was driving and when he returned the truck, he forgot to top off the gas. The owner had the opportunity to ignore this fact [and should have in light of the problems regarding this rental situation], but chose to charge me to top the gas off. In fact, with every thing that cropped up over the course of the day, I was told I had to call the Uhaul 800 number to make changes for get approvals. I was in the process of a move; I did not have the time to spend on the phone with some Uhaul rep for a problem I did not create. As far as the vehicle, the interior of the truck was not as clean as I would have expected; it did not appear to have been swept by the previous renter (or more). Due to previous issues with Uhaul, I have historically rented from Penske for my last couple moves. The only reasons I used this particular Uhaul location for this move were: 1) it was more convenient, distance-wise; and 2) the owner/manager goes to my daughter's church so I trusted he'd do the right thing as a fellow Christian. Fortunately, this all worked out in the end and I was able to move on the date planned. To the owner/manager's credit, he was very nice, apologetic, and easy to deal with. But Uhaul, overall, is not at the top of my recommendation list when it comes to truck rentals. The rates are almost always substantially higher than Penske, the trucks are in poor condition, and making a reservation in advance seems to mean absolutely nothing. When moving, these are major factors. If Uhaul is to remain in the rental game, I'd suggest raising the bar across the board.Allyssa C.
Facility or office was dilapidated and we had to talk through a plywood wall the whole time to the rep who never showed himself until we went outside to get the trailer. I said this is very strange; he said it's a strange time. But once he came outside with us, he was very helpful and polite. That saved it. I reserved a 26 foot truck and only got a 10 foot. This killed me on time, and trips for my move a 10 foot truck is not meant to move a 5 bedroom house. Per the owner U Haul had over booked.Anthony K.

Can't really rate this location as it was closed when I turned in the truck. I tried to return the truck in Powell's Point and the employee was rude and refused to take my truck. Due to that I had to backtrack and return the truck at a location in the opposite direction I was traveling. I therefore got charged for extra miles and gas! The man who runs this location was not well informed about the logistics of running his business. He didn't check in my trailer on time of return and charged me extra due to his own choices of closing the business on Sunday's. He has poor customer service, which included him hanging up on me when I was calling about unknown charges he was making to me, as well would not talk to me and would only talk to the man I brought with me. The rental was in my name and yet he disregarded what I was asking and would only explain or talk to my friend, the man. His attitude was poor and I will not be renting from him again. I had to go out of my way to get to his location when I made the rental appointment over a week before my date of use, which was to be in grandy. I am highly disappointed uhaul would allow me to be treated in such a manner, especially as this being my first time as their customer. I was intending to use uhaul again shortly to move more Items in my new home but now I'm reconsidering. His attitude toward me was defensive in the beginning of our first conversation when he was making sure I wasn't related to another Mr. Slaughter who he didn't like. Which I am not. His attitude is unprofessional and my feelings are hurt. However, the customer service at shoreline in grandy was impeccable. They all were kind and very professional, I only wish my trailer I rented was sent there like they were told it would be.Katie S.

Owner locked us in the office for 35 min before returning to assist us with our pick up. Now we were there 15 min early for pickup but owner went outside and fiddled with other trucks and then disappeared from site before another customer that arrived called him on his cell to find out where he was. Owner did say it was a busy day but it was odd and uncomfortable being locked in the office. Also there was no heat in the office so it was quite cold.Erica H.

I picked up the truck at 9:45am on Saturday. It was logged as 9am. I returned it 2 days later in NC on Monday at 9:36am. I have photo proof. I got an unfair surcharge of $40. Didn't appreciate the 3g surcharge either. I picked it up with less than half a tank. I tried to peg the level at the last gas station before dropping it off. Perhaps the measurement was right, but trucks should be filled at the beginning so the customer doesn't get nickled and dimed. Will not use U-Haul again if these charges remain.Holden H.

When I rented this truck the man on the u-haul number (NOT Colington pawn) the nationwide number,told me specifically when I asked that the fee was through my contract time and NOT pet mile.I asked twice.when I returned it I called the after hours nationwide and the lady told me 407 miles were covered and I had to pay .40 a mile after that I disputed this in comments on returning but no one called me about it,just recharged my card.Also the original man told me the smaller box truck had a tow hitch I could swap out as I needed a different size.When I got there I had to rent a much bigger truck because that was the only one with a receiver hitch port.bobby S.

The truck had a used face mask, food covered utensils, cigarettes & a muddy floor! When I asked to get a different truck I was told that I was assigned to that particular truck. My assumption was that the other trucks were in worse shape. When I asked who cleans the truck, the man informed me that he does... opps! Needed a truck for a furniture delivery with short pickup window so I took the dirty truck! After driving it for a short while, I recognized the odor I was smelling.. urine!
