The issues I had were not with Gazzalis Express but with U-Haul. Hence the "average" rating. I couldn't tell you how they rate if U-Haul weren't such a mess. Allow me to explain. I made the reservation online at uhaul.com and chose a pickup/drop-off location near my home in Berkeley. The day before the pick-up date, I went back to uhaul.com to reserve a separate truck for another date, but when I checked my dashboard, I noticed that my pick-up location had been moved to Gazzalis in Oakland. I immediately called and spoke with a representative, who explained that this can happen for a myriad of reasons. She also said that U-Haul had sent me an email and left me a voicemail with this update. I had no such email nor a voicemail. Then, when we arrived to pick up the van, the Gazzalis employee said: "Oh, I don't have a 9' van right now". So, I called and was told where else I could pick up the van (!!). Unacceptable. The employee of Gazzalis then told me he had found the person with the said van, who was 2 hours late returning, etc., and that it would be there in 20 minutes. We chose to wait. The vehicle itself was in fine condition, but the customer service I received was abysmal. If U-Haul cannot afford to provide its own lots with trained staff who know how the system works, that's too bad; however, if you're going to let just any business with parking represent you, you should provide the proper training and support. We were astonished by the entire experience.

Staff were nice and quick, truck was clean. We used a 10’ truck for our two bedroom apartment because the drive way is small for bigger truck. Had to run 3 trips to carry everything.

App-based checkout system is horrible - overly long and complicated. It's also problematic how it handles gas tank level.

I made the reservation over a month in advance and my pickup location was changed by U-Haul the day before. We didn’t receive a call notifying of the change, even though it said online we should receive a call. Our order included 2 dollies but the pickup location didn’t have them when we arrived. We had to spend $80 buying our own and set back on our moving day and the trouble set back our trip.

Make sure you provide the correct number of blankets. I reserved 24 but I was only given 12. Shame on me for not counting but the app also did not ask me to confirm the number of blankets. I just paid $100 for nothing. This location should have a second person working when a truck is being picked up. It was one guy and he was busy trying to cash out a line of people while go through the process with us.

Person working at the store couldn't find my reservation at first. He continued to help other customers while making me wait. He didn't have the blankets that I ordered and were supposed to be in the truck. He was worried he didn't have a truck for me. It took half an hour to get the key. Gas was on empty.

There were not enough furniture pads available; this did not end up being a big issue, but given there were only 3 available, it would have been nice to at least be able to have 6 given we were expecting 12.

I had SUCH an excellent experience at Gazzali's! Unfortunately, the truck I rented had been vandalized just before my pickup and was not usable, but every single employee was so, SO helpful with the situation. They were extremely respectful and were able to find me an alternative quickly. It didn't throw off my timeline much at all and they went above and beyond in their customer service. I'm super grateful to them all!

First location in Berkeley was closed an hour early before my pick up time. 2nd location had no markers. Hard to find. Truck was dirty with check engine light on. Charged more than quoted. Will probably use a different truck rental in the summer

The location was not open. There was no clear guidance after spending 40 minutes on the phone trying to find a lock box that did not exist. I was asked to bring my U-Haul keys back tomorrow. I would like a significant refund as I spent 45 minutes for what should’ve been a five minute drop off and I have to spend I didn’t get to call Rose and Jack an hour of my time tomorrow to bring the U-Haul key to the business. I have to leave work early. This has been horrible experience.
