The truck wasn't available when I went to pick it up. I had to wait for 2 hours. Also the extra equipment I ordered wasn't available. I called the support line and was hung up on.

I’m writing to formally express my concern and dissatisfaction with a recent experience involving a truck and trailer rental picked up in Victoria, BC, as part of a one-way move to Calgary. Due to serious safety concerns, questionable practices at the rental location, and inaccurate charges, I am requesting a full refund. When we arrived to pick up our equipment, we clearly informed the staff that the vehicle we planned to tow was a 2010 Jeep. We were initially told the Jeep might be too heavy for the trailer, but after several minutes of back-and-forth on the computer system, we were assured we were approved to tow. Upon later reviewing our rental contract, we noticed that the vehicle had been entered as a 2002 Jeep, not the 2010 we reported. We strongly suspect this was done intentionally to bypass towing weight restrictions and guarantee a rental, without regard for safety. We began our journey toward Calgary, but by the time we reached Kamloops, it became clear that the truck was dangerously overloaded or mechanically compromised. The brakes were shuddering violently, especially on hills, and the handling felt unsafe under braking. Fearing for our safety and that of others on the road, we returned the trailer to a U-Haul location in Kamloops and continued with just the truck. At that location, the U-Haul representative we dealt with agreed that the trailer should never have been approved for our vehicle. She acknowledged the issue and documented everything in our file, which should be referenced as part of your internal review. Unfortunately, the problems continued. While crossing Rogers Pass, the brake shuddering worsened, making the vehicle borderline undriveable. The symptoms point to poor or neglected maintenance, likely worn brake pads or deeper mechanical issues. We were also overcharged for equipment not received, including: • 12 packing blankets, when only 6 were provided • A moving dolly, which was unavailable at pickup Summary of Issues: • Misrepresentation of the towed vehicle’s year (2010 listed as 2002) to override safety thresholds • Unsafe vehicle condition, endangering our safety and others’ • Forced trailer return mid-trip due to braking and handling failure • Persistent mechanical failure beyond the trailer issue • Incorrect billing for undelivered equipment • Admission from U-Haul Kamloops staff that this situation was mishandled This incident reflects what could be interpreted as willful negligence and reckless endangerment—both of which are serious concerns under Canadian law. U-Haul has a legal duty of care to provide safe, roadworthy equipment and accurate information to customers. Falsifying vehicle data and assigning trailers against weight limits, combined with mechanical neglect, represents a potential breach of that duty. I am hoping to resolve this matter directly and respectfully, but I want to be clear that I will consider escalating to the appropriate regulatory or legal authorities if a refund is not issued and the situation remains unaddressed. The trailer was full of cardboard when I picked it up, it was parked so tight to another trailer I couldn’t get in to check it before I left. Was told I had to take all that cardboard with me when I dropped off the trailer on the other end.

Fix the u-haul website self check-in. I had no issues with it on sunday, but on tuesday it was erroring out saying that the license number didn't match the province. It was the same license number and address I used on Sunday. We were in a rush and that delayed things almost an hour.

The store was very dirty and the unwelcoming. Located on a dilapidated property with no parking. It looks like there’s a bunch of people living in camp trailers in the back. The person at the counter was extremely rude. No customer parking and no parking on the street. Very poor

Our truck wasn't even swept out and the front had old French fries on the floor. That really wasn't a big deal, but what did bother me, Online it said the cost was $1.19/km. When we paid it was $2.20/km. I didn't argue it with the proprietor because I was far to tired after a big move. I did try to call U-Haul but was left on hold for far to long , so I ended up hanging up.

my original pickup location was in Victoria and it was unilaterally changed to Goldstream, which was inconvenient for me…that said, it was a successful rental experience overall.

I reserved the day before that a trailer was available for me at Sydney (Victoria) and I was going to Sanich the following day. I’m from the Sunshine Coast so it’s a full day travelling. next day I headed for Sanich to view the car I was buying and so I headed to Sydney, half way there U-Haul called that the trailer, the only trailer available was in Langford….. WASN'T IMPRESSED at all ! NEVER AGAIN !!

There was a delay at the original pick up point, Corona Foods, however when the manager found out the vehicle was not going to be available, he found me another rental from another store in their chain and drove me there to get me into a suitable vehicle. Great service!

The only concerns I had was that the tire pressure was low so was a little worried once I loaded the vehicle, also there was quite a big leak in the ceiling in the far corner. I know weather is unpredictable but due to the heavy rain all day most of our boxes and items got wet due to the leak. I did report both concerns once I did my vehicle walk around, but there was no other vehicles and we had to move out of our rental that day.

I cannot see how anyone without a cell phone can possibly deal with this. I have limited Data. I had to spend more than I should have to deal with my reservation. I worry for seniors trying to deal with these issues. Fixating on the app is okay for kids - but detrimental to seniors - or even thirty-year old's like myself. Can't see how any 60+ year old can rent a U-hual, let alone a thirty-year old. Should be something to think about.

This business is well run and very professional in service. The only drawback is they don’t have par ki ng and in that area no street parking. This needs to be better communicated by Uhaul so the renter makes arraignment to be dropped off or have someone bring them.

Found out if it rained the roof had a leak. When I returned the truck the representative questioned the gas at 1/4 of a tank. When I had a picture of the gauge when I picked it up. The representative was rude, “stop arguing” was all he’d say when I was asking to explain the charges on my invoice. I would not recommend this location to anyone!!

Van had less than a quarter tank of fuel on pickup and was dirty inside and out! Attendant was disinterested and kept me waiting 20 minutes while he went about readying his store for opening (business hours stated pickup at 9am though he wasn't ready till about 9:15. Van was jammed against wall making it impossible to inspect or photograph. At drop-off I wasn't given a receipt or confirmation that van was returned in good condition. This store owner is needs to value customers more highly in my opinion. Note: I rarely do surveys but I was very dissapointed in my rental experience!

The location manager was rude and dismissive. When I called for assistance they essentially hung up on me. The equipment was not checked. The truck tail gate was locked and the truck was full of unfolded blankets and it had dollies which I had not requested.

Our first experience was great. They couldn’t have been more understanding of our predicament and were quick to accommodate. The young man who looked after us initially at the store was friendly, welcoming and quick to get us going. Much appreciated in the stressfull situation we were in. Was the truck as clean as I’ve seen them before? No. But it’s a truck! Their expectations were very pragmatic. Thank you!

Good service at location, equipment was clean and in good working order. I don't like that vehicles are not rented with gas tanks full...requires guessing as to how much gas to put in when done using them and invariably means the customer overfills (and therefore over spends) on gas. This could easily be fixed by sending vehicles out with full tanks and have them come back with full tanks like rental cars do.

The person who gave me the truck in the morning at this location was very rude and had an extremely disrespectful attitude to the point that I was considering canceling my rental and going to another location. However, the young man who was working behind the counter in the evening had excellent behavior and was very polite.
