I had a terrible experience with the truck and trailer. The steering wheel was so loose that I didn’t have control over the entire trip. I had to drive 40 mph or less to feel safe. Also, the left light in the back of trailer was off. I noticed people were waving at me that something is wrong, so I pulled over and noticed that trailer has only one safety light on in the dark road. Then I turned on my own car’s small lights and signal lights to be safe on the road and rain. When I got to my destination, I realized that my car battery is dead and I had to get a jump at the u-haul drop off locationAnd got to work 2 hours late. Now my car battery is bad and I have to replace it. I asked the guy at u-haul drop off location to try the steering wheel and he agreed with me that it was super loose and unsafe. He also saw the trailer light that was off. I called the customer service this morning and complained and I’m hoping that the management gets back to me soon. I was on the road for 10 hours mostly after sunset and in the rain and felt terrible and scared the entire time. This truck should get removed from rental and needs serious repairs. The pick up location should have checked/inspected the truck before renting it to me. They put me and my brother’s life in danger carelessly.

The address is an industrial location with 3 lock boxes bolted to a wall and that’s it. The vehicles are parked up and down the public street and I had to go looking for my truck. The key would not unlock the driver side door and I had to climb in and over from the passenger side.

First off, the staff at the rental location were clueless about the online rental process and I was so frustrated I actually canceled my reservation. After figuring out the process on my own, I re-reserved the truck and went back down. I was able to check out the vehicle but when I went to the lock box to get the keys, the box was empty!!! That said, Matthew from the online chat was able to contact the store and get me the keys. Upon driving the vehicle home and opening up the he cargo compartment I found the stored moving blankets thrown about out of their storage pouch. Additionally, two were missing. In addition, the cargo bay was filthy requiring me to sweep out the debris prior to loading. Then, when I went to unlock the driver’s side door, I discovered that the lock was broken making me have to open the passenger side door to access the cab. At least that lock worked! But at the end, the truck ran great and I feel the price charged was fair.

The U-Haul representative was fantastic and the truck worked out well but the rental experience itself was an absolute nightmare. I had to ride my bike 6 miles to pick up the truck and when I got there, I learned that the truck wasn't available due to a maintenance issue which had already been resolved but the representative wasn't able to complete my transaction on the computer because the truck remained red flagged in the system. I spent well over two hours trying to get a truck which I had already been advised was available and waiting for me to pick up. Then, after I finally got back home with it, the help which I had lined up to help me load the truck, was no longer available and I ended up loading everything by myself. Overall it was a horrendous, stressful and strenuous experience which will certainly give me cause to reconsider my options the next time I'm in need of moving assistance.
