I got a call last minute that the location I reserved at was overbooked and I had to go to a second location where the truck was also not ready this delayed my reservation by about 30 minutes also I was told when I made the reservation that the amount due would be $36 but I was actually charged $116.

Michael SU-Haul Team, I am writing to share my recent experience with your service, which, unfortunately, did not meet my expectations for a smooth and customer-friendly process. I initially reserved a vehicle online, selecting a location a few miles from my home for convenience. However, I was informed shortly after that the reserved vehicle was unavailable at the chosen location. Despite this setback, I opted to proceed with an alternative vehicle but encountered several significant issues. Firstly, the transfer of my reservation to another location was mishandled, leading to an unexpected and substantial increase in mileage—over 25 miles each way—to pick up the vehicle. This inconvenience was compounded by the absence of a proper access code, which necessitated approximately two hours on the phone with customer service to resolve. This delay not only disrupted our schedule but also added unnecessary stress to our day. Furthermore, I was assured by a customer service manager that an extra day would be added to our rental at no additional charge to compensate for these issues. Unfortunately, this promise was not honored, as we were later faced with extra charges for mileage that we incurred due to the initial reservation error. This resulted in an additional cost of $100, which seems unjust given the circumstances. The vehicle return process was equally frustrating. The drop-off location was initially unable to locate our reservation in the system, further complicating matters and delaying our plans. It appeared that the reservation had not been properly entered into the system after being transferred, a critical error that placed us in a difficult position. In reflecting on this experience, it is clear that communication and system errors between the original location and customer service significantly impacted our rental process. I would appreciate a review of these charges, particularly the extra mileage fees, and a confirmation of the additional day that was verbally promised by your staff. Thank you for taking the time to address these concerns. I hope that feedback such as this will assist U-Haul in improving service and coordination in the future to prevent similar experiences for other customers.
TYLER FTruck was sent out poorly maintained. Dome light assembly in cab was hanging down by its wires. There was a ignition switch (old?) laying in one of the cupholders, the cab interior of the truck was dirty and the brakes pulsate noticeably. But, it didn't break down on the trip, so that was a good point.

Heidi SIt is probably fine as a SHARE location, but if there is no indication at the onset what is required for a share location and it is booked as a standard rental...you are screwed. Took an additional hour to convert the reservation so that it could be used. this wasted the time of a number of other people and movers that were lined up to help. Additionally, they could not accommodate any of the pre-ordered items, as they do not support at this location. So why was it available. This was a cluster and I cannot recommend this option to anyone in good conscience.
James MLet customers know up front that the $25 cleaning fee is required! I only drove the truck 4 miles and returned it cleaner than I got it and I still got charged the $25 cleaning fee.

Dan PI reserved a truck and appliance dolly and got confirmation, but when I got there I was told they didn't have the dolly. Then I was given the keys to a truck and told it was low on gas so I would be given a fuel credit and that I would need to put gas in it. The truck started then died twice because there was NO fuel. He then gave me another truck which also had LOW fuel and but I made to the pump and put $25 in which only gave me a little over an 1/8 of a tank. The fuel credit was only $38 but just to get to 1/4 tank (which is how much I was told to return the truck with) it took another $20+ dollars before I even used the truck for my task. The cab was clean, but the bed was dingy and well used but not dirty. When I returned the vehicle, it was in the same shape as I received it and the fuel was over 1/4 full. We drove it around 30 miles total but when we received the invoice, we were charged for 50 miles and charged a cleaning fee. The UHaul representative was not there to check the truck when I turned it in, so I had to turn it in in good faith. I am seriously dissatisfied and will NEVER use this location again and would reconsider using UHaul for future moving and storage needs.

Natassah WThe location was great, very friendly and helpful people no issues at all with them. Uhaul was terrible. Their app and general process for pick up needs improvement. The process is riddled with obvious terrible choices. Why do you ask for references and additional contacts at the time of pick up? That makes no sense, just get those details when I make the reservation. I should have been able to just click a button and pick up the keys, but instead I was waiting on a uhaul representative to text me through the app and confirm all the details one at a time while waiting for the app to stutter and clunk about. It would randomly refresh constantly and erase whatever text I was working on, and then crash, forcing me to start the entire process over. I spent about an hour at the pick up location meant around with your app and the in-app uhaul rep before I got my keys. What is the point of the app if I have to contact a representative anyway to confirm all the details? None of that would have mattered anyway if you had just asked for all that information AT THE TIME OF RESERVATION, then you could have confirmed in the meantime before pick up and I could have fixed any problems way before hand. Absolutely infuriating when I made a reservation before hand and then I'm slammed for almost an hour just trying to pick up the keys, especially when I'm on a schedule and coordinating a move. These are easy fixes, I'm not sure how this made it through corporate review.
Konner BReserved online, asked for appliance dolly, no insurance or blankets. Vehicle came with a standard dolly and about 20 blankets all balled up in the back. Staff had no record of my reservation so they printed a new contract with the unwanted items included and no appliance dolly. Was then told that the insurance and blankets were not optional. As this rental was for business and time-sensitive, I did not care to debate with the staff. At return, the vehicle was fully swept, all blankets (that were not folded upon rental) were folded up, however a cleaning fee was applied. Gas from this rental location was put in the vehicle after use, and we then handed the key to the clerk. I have a 4:46pm time-stamped receipt for the gas, however vehicle check-in on the receipt says 7:16pm, so an after-hours charge was applied. I've never had trouble with online reservations before, but I strongly recommend avoiding this rental location. They seem to just charge whatever they want.

Jasmin RThe whole experience started off poorly when my reservation for a 10 foot truck was relocated to a different location than i had hoped to reserve. I received a call the night before my reservation date, informing me the truck i ordered was not available at the location i requested and they needed to change it. This gas station i was supposed to pick up the truck at was being attended by a man named George. He was a very unhelpful employee and made the whole experience an absolute nightmare. He wasted my time, letting me think he had no access to the truck keys when he had them the whole time. Making the pickup process take over an hour. Calling and getting disconnected from assistance because phone service is terrible in this location. When I finally picked up the vehicle, it was on a quarter tank of gas. Later to find out the tank had been tampered with and gas had been stolen. Roadside assistance was needed to fix the hole that was drilled into the gas tank. We drove on the highway with gas pouring out of the bottom of the vehicle. My parents following us noticed the large amount of gas falling onto the highway. Lastly the gas station did not have the dolly and other moving equipment I paid for. I was not able to use those items, which would have been VERY helpful in the moving process. I'm a pretty understanding person and I get it when things happen, but in all honesty the man working at the gas station on Military Road in Federal Way Washington, George, does not have a clue on how to handle your customers. He's incredibly rude and untrained. He made an already stressful experience 10 times worse than it should have been. I hope nobody ever has to experience this unpleasant man again while using the uhaul service.

OMAR BMade the reservation online, but when I got to the pick up location, was asked for a key code that was not provided to me in the confirmation email. Had to call and was put on hold for 30 mins. Finally got the box truck 45 minutes later, and it was terrible. Very poorly maintained and the steering was off and made a horrible noise when turning. Rented the truck for 4 hours and returned early. Realized a couple of days later that they charged me every possible extra charge they could have. Returned the truck and filled it up to with to the exact same amount of fuel when I checked out. I was charged a fuel service fee, 8 gallon fuel charge, after hours service fee, cleaning fee, and an environmental fee. Total for all the extra fees I was charged came out to more than $160. I already paid $150 which I agreed to pay for the rental to begin with. I was charged $315 for a 4 hour rental. Stay away from this location. They will rip you off and charge you all these crazy extra fees that you didn’t agree to pay. They don’t even check the truck when you return it either. They just ask for the keys back. BEWARE! GO TO ANOTHER LOCATION!!

david OInstructions for how to get the keys were not clear and flat out wrong. They told us there was a key box with a code inside the back of the truck. Tried using the chat box and they just repeated the directions with no other help. Finally went inside to them and THEY had the key box and I gave the code to open it to them and finally got my key. Clear instructions would be good since we spent over 30 mins in the freezing cold looking for the key box. WOULD NOT RECOMMEND.

MeLinda HThe instructions suggest the experience was contactless and that the key would be in the lockbox, but the online instructions were a bit difficult to follow and the key was actually inside the service station. So a bit misleading there. Also, the location had snowed previously in the week, and the owner did not salt or shovel the parking area. The van was parked sideways on a hill with barely enough room between the trucks on either side to open the doors. As I pulled out, the van immediately started sliding downhill toward the next van. The parking lot was pretty treacherous and left a high probability that someone not familiar with driving in the snow could damage the vehicles or themselves. Luckily I'm pretty familiar with driving in those conditions, but my wife for instance would have been toast. Would have a higher rating in non-winter storm conditions, but my experience was a few days after a storm.

Also this rental cost me extra 22 miles at $1.29 per mile because my previous reservation at 1.5 miles from my house was not staged. They had 7 vans sitting in their parking lot. Very dissappointed and I should be reimbursed for the extra cost because of your employee negligence. Next time I will rent from somewhere else because you are not reliable.

The man was much more helpful and a tad defensive, because I needed to call Uhaul and ask to have someone come out and check out the vehicle (gas, cleanliness, etc); as he told me to sweep out the back, which was hardly dirty at all. Overall good, for my first time doing this !
Bria HI rented this van and drove it 9 miles. Before returning, I added two gallons of gas to the van totaling $8.50, which should more than cover the 9 miles I drove. My final U-Haul receipt has a fuel charge on it for $9.90. I assume it is because the fuel gauge is not reading correctly, but I do NOT agree U-Haul needs to receive $18 in gas for a 9-mile trip rental. Next time, it will be Hertz or Enterprise.
Michael JI'm being charged more then what I expected and being charged for a gallon of gas when I returned the gas exactly as what was expected. The gas was on empty when I received it and the light came on 2 blocks after I drove it. And that's how it returned and I feel like it's more expensive then advertised.

TRACI SThis was one of the worst customer service experiences of my life. I made the reservation online and opted to check in at the counter. My husband dropped me off at the location (a gas station) and left to run an errand 40 minutes away. I completed the online check in, but the person working at the location told me that she could not give me the keys without a 4 digit code that I could only get from mobile check in. I didn't choose mobile check in, but evidently that was the only acceptable option. The website should not let you select "check in at the counter" if it's not an option! There was no way to change my check-in method on the website, so the employee then told me that I had to call the 1-800 number to get it fixed. I spent OVER AN HOUR on hold, outside at a gas station with 10% left on my phone battery, waiting for a customer service representative. When I finally got a representative on the line, they told me that I should have gotten an email with the code. I waited another 5 minutes on hold while they transferred me to customer service (who was I waiting for for over an hour if not customer service??). The next representative was able to send the email with the link/code that was apparently ESSENTIAL to giving me the keys. When I showed the code to the employee, 90 MINUTES after I initially arrived to pick up the vehicle, it seemed that this code was meant to distinguish between the keys to the 3 vehicles at this location. 3 vehicles, only one of which was the type of vehicle I had reserved. The best part: the code didn't even match the number on the key!! By the time I left with the vehicle, it was almost 2 HOURS after my reservation was scheduled to begin, all so I could provide a 4-digit code that, in the end, meant absolutely NOTHING. I will never, EVER use U-Haul again. I should not have had to pay for that rental, but conveniently, the customer service representative told me there was no way to offer a discount in advance of the rental period. Again, what a convenient way for u-haul to avoid making things right with their customers. Again, I will NEVER use U-Haul again after they wasted 2 hours of my life for absolutely no reason.

When I moved away from the van, e-checkout okayed my position, but when I had to take pictures of the van, e-checkout claimed I wasn't at the proper location and bounced me out of the process.

PATRICIA YWe were going to drop off at a location in lakewood close to where we needed the uhaul. Though we got a call asking if we could drop off at a different location 30 minutes away from our original location and we will get an extra day and 30 miles extra no charge. We didn't need an extra day, it was more of an inconvenience and the 30 extra miles was just to give the uhaul to the location where the uhaul wanted at. It was an extreme inconvenience for us, costed us extra in gas, extra in our time, and overall an unpleasant experience. We will never drive extra to deliver a uhaul again. Also since we did all this we returned with same amount of gas as we had it, but the employee tried to get us to add more gas than we needed to. Would not stop asking us until we told the employee we have video and picture proof of the whole vehicle and gas gauge before we touched the truck. Very unhappy, very irritated, very inconvenienced. Would never recommend again to deliver a uhaul.

Travis MYour review system is not valid. You name the locations where you pick up and drop off which are fine and not part of the problem. The problem is your scheduling department. They suck at their jobs. The end of story. I reserved and pre paid for a truck a week before I needed it. I was told someone would call me by Friday 6pm. On Friday by 7pm still no call so I called the 1800 number. Spoke with someone after being on hold forever and was told go here and pick up your truck Saturday morning, I wanted to start early so had opted for a 7am mobile pickup. Next day go to get truck at the location they sent me to which was a drive and not my desired location and you guessed it....No truck. Call 1800 number again, sit on hold forever and explain situation and get hung up on. Call 1800 number, sit on hold forever and finally get someone with half a brain. She finally finds me a truck which is another 30 minute drive away. I’m mad but need a truck so I say okay. I finally get the truck and complete my move. Somehow they changed my drop off location from the original requested drop off to another main store drop point in the next town over. Here is the kicker. I dropped the truck off early Sunday morning at the requested drop point by mobile drop off/no contact. Sunday while Im headed back to my home I get an email saying don’t forget to drop your truck off at the changed location or you might get charged a fee. After I had already dropped the truck and keys at the original requested location. Call 1800 number, sit on hold forever and get hung up on. Call 1800 number, sit on hold forever and get told I can’t help you and you need to call a different number. I tell him I’m driving and can you just transfer me. He response was “no I can’t. you need to call them.” Then hangs up on me. I didn’t get the number cause I’m driving and now I’m really mad. I finally get home and call 1800 number for the last time. I seriously told myself if this time it doesn’t get handled I was just going to dispute every charge from you guys. So I call and sit on hold forever. Talk to another guy and tell him the whole story. In under 10 minutes this guy gets the drop off location switched back to the correct one and issues me a $50 credit per your truck guarantee. He was helpful and good at his job. The entire experience though was a G O A T R O P E. I will never use UHaul again.

Jeffrey PU-haul sends an email to confirm your reservation and the email has three steps. The first one is a link to a site where you can pick up your vehicle. DO NOT USE IT. Instead, go use the U-haul app instead. The app is definitely not user friendly. Sometimes we had to select an option and the app would not register our selection. We had to keep trying over and over again until our selection would register. We also had a problem with trying to upload a photo to document to U-haul that there was damage to the truck that was not shown in their photo. The photo would not upload so we had to call U-Haul's customer service. The first time we got cut off after about 10 minutes of conversation. The second customer service person was very capable and she documented the damage in their system and told us we had to "accept" the incorrect photo so that we could continue on with getting our truck. Then, the app did not provide the correct information about the location of the keys. It was inside with the gas station attendant. We had been working with the app and customer service for about 50 minutes and the attendant never came out to tell us he had the key. It's possible he doesn't even know what the app says. All in all, it took an hour for us to get the vehicle. Fortunately, the check in process using the app went very smoothly. When I reserved the truck, I had a strange experience with the website. I was reserving a truck in Federal Way for 24 hours. I got back a confirmation that I could pick it up in Auburn (not close to Federal Way) and that it was reserved for 4 hours. I then set-up my U-haul account and it said I had a truck in Federal Way for 6 hours. I called Customer Service and they changed it to 24 hours. The one bright spot about this whole experience is that the Customer Service people have extended service hours and they are good at providing help over the phone. They are also very courteous.

alex mMake it clear at the time of rental that the location is not a regular uhaul store. The process was to rent was not clear nor stated. It time consuming and annoying. We will never use this location again. Also, we put in $5 in gas which we did not get credit for. There was no information about buying gas or automatically being charged for it. The entire rental experience was negative.

Stallone MThe operator at this location is a complete crook. I was wrongfully overcharged for bogus charges for fuel after returning the truck. I called customer service and provided photographic evidence of the time, location, and the amount of fuel upon return. The customer service agent completely agreed with me that the fuel level was indeed at the same level as when I picked up the truck yet the owner of the location charged my credit card over $86 dollars in bogus charges. Upon investigation by the customer service department I was given a refund, but the fact remains; the owner of this location is a crook and is running a scam. He should have his franchise revoked! Read the other reviews concerning this location and do yourself a favor and avoid this location at all costs!

Need to have better communication between uhaul and pickup locations when they aren't a uhaul facility.

I have to wait half the day to get a truck. I was promised 30 miles for free it wasn’t added. In fact I was charged extra for the truck and it was only used a few hours. I was lied to over and over. I would like a refund for the extra miles I was charged as promised. I did an online deal where I could pick up in one place and drop it off to where it was needed.

And we never received the 3 moving blankets we were charged for, and were too flustered from the check-in process to realize it and mention it. But at least you had a truck for us last-minute!
Shawn HUsing the Mobil app was completely confusing and I was not directed to many next steps. Wasn’t able to full return truck and input miles. Stayed on phone for 35 on hold trying to reach help. Never did get anyone to answer. Was charged for gas that I didn’t use. I brought tank to half a tank right where I found it before taking and was still charged 14.$ when I should not have been.

Gina SVan had major undocumented damage, that impaired vehicle operation. Dent in rear door was causing door sensor to think door was open, which keeps the cargo LED lights on. In my opinion this renders the vehicle unusable at night. Vehicle was also dirty inside.
shaun rFirst you need somebody that actually works for U-Haul there because the one guy who suggested maybe I go on uhaul.com did not say that that's the only way to rent your truck . It would have been better if you had paper to fill out to write down and record your name address excetera the pictures didn't go in easily on the front or back. And then waiting for the code took forever all-in-all I waited over an hour and 15 minutes for the truck when it was empty and it just been turned in when I got there big waste of time. I will use U-Haul in the future just never that location ever again

The "express check-in" took 30 minutes to complete with waiting on hold with multiple agents, to all of the pictures I had to take of the driver of the truck, his license (front and back) and then EVERY SINGLE little "X" damage sticker on the truck, and then after all of that, there was the 8 minute online wait time to see if I was authorized to take the truck. I would never recommend anyone rent a Uhaul in this manner. If you need a truck, just go to the in person dealers. This was a frustrating joke. There was nothing about the extent of this process when I booked the truck online. I was just smacked in the face with it when I got there and the gas station attendants said they aren't involved with an of it. VERY poor system, Uhaul.
Barry SSetting up the reservation to get at basically a self service place and it was very unclear where the key was and how to access it. Even U Haul customer services was unaware of how to access the key for the truck. Using the app guides you through the checkout and return process but exactly how to access the key was not clear. The key for the rental ended up being locked in the back of the truck.

janet mThe cab, although appearing tidy was NOT clean but the pick-up process didn't ask me if the cab was clean. It had some beverage spills (small) but spots on the jump seat and on the floor and some in the cup wells. I didn't want to get dinged for that but didn't get the chance to report it at the beginning of my truck rental. Overall I did not like the self-reservation and on-line process for picking up and dropping off. In theory it was a great idea but it was kind of miserable because the lock wasn't working properly and at first we thought we were going to have to leave the truck and go to a store to find another truck. But my friend kept working at it and after 20 minutes we were in the truck. Dropping off I had trouble with that stupid lock again. Other than that it would have been fine. The location was alright and the truck was decent overall.
Sandra HI had to wait over an hour before I could get access my rental and be on my way. Improve the website so customers can quickly pick up their rental and be on their way. Also make improvements so customers can quickly drop off their rental and be on their way.
