The truck needed to be cleaned inside the cab. I have no way of knowing how well the engine is maintained - it didn't breakdown on me - but lack of attention to the inside can indicate a lack of attention in general.Becky M.

Owner was 3 hours late! Truck had trash in storage area that I had to clean up, before loading. Windshield wipers were weather rotted. Watched multiple customers walk out, due to this irresponsible customer service. I had a deadline and was 3 hours late. Never again! I will use another Provider in the future. I have rented vehicles twice at this location and returned another rental at the location. Each time, the agency manager had been extremely courteous and helpful. The agency's location is very close to our residence which has made rentals very convenient.Wayman D.

The ratchet straps need to be lubricated more often. The ones I had did not work easily and needs some minor attention.KURTIS G.
We were disappointed that we could not pick up our uhaul at the original uhaul we registered for off 105 and our reservation changed to 20 minutes one way from Boone (over an hour round trip) the day before we were supposed to pick up our uhaul. The owner there stated they went by reservation day and that they had been wiped out by the college kids-in which our college kid had to do without. The guy in Banner Elk was very helpful and professional and I would rent from him again if ever needed, however I would never rent from the place on 105 ever again. This was our second bad experience with her and she gives away trucks and storage trailers on more of a first come first serve basis instead of reserved.Marvin M.

Truck was dirty and back was full of sawdust. They did give it a quick sweep out, but left strings tied to the boards, and still not clean. Can of truck was dirty too. Inside the shop was nice.Dean S.

The employees gave us the number on the trailer and then pointed in the direction to look for it. We found it, pulled it free from a rut caused by recent rain, hooked it up ourselves, then drove back to the â€œFITNESS center. â€œ where we called him out to inspect the hook up. He gave us a thumbs up and off we went. I am 76 years old and could have appreciated some help.Jerome G.
I was told I could drop off here. When I did, the parking lot was full, could barely get our trailer in. The attendant said I needed to nothing further. Now I am being charged $60 worth of late fees. Horrible experience, will NEVER use U-Haul again. I have been a good customer for years, but never again will I make this mistake.MICHELLE L.

Nicole was very helpful at this location. Nice, efficient, courteous, knowledgeable when we arrived to pickup truck. Jackson was helpful the day before pickup when we talked to him on the phone. In future rentals we will definitely use the Peak Fitness Location for our rentals.Charles L.

The hitch was not maintained to work properly. I have many cuts and bruises as well as a back ache. This could have been dangerous. Also I believe I was overcharged. The trucks are in a mud lot. This is a work out center. You have to wait in line with people attending the workout center and this is their priority not U-haul. They hand you the keys and say go find this number. If it's boxed in, walk back through the mud and let us know what's not boxed in. We'll fix the paper work when you get back. Because, my fitness center comes first.Todd T.

WARNING: This is a lengthy comment, but I encourage you to read its entirety, I was concerned about renting from Peak Fitness/U-Haul because of the negative reviews that had been posted. Since this location was so much more convenient to Beech Mountain, where I was, I had to arm myself with being forewarned and moved ahead with a rental there. I must say that I was very pleasantly surprised with the efficiency, the helpfulness and the overall reception that I experienced. Although I indicated that the 4 x 8 trailer I rented was clean and well maintained, there were a few dead leaves inside, but nothing that I couldn't handle myself. The one issue that surfaced during my 2-day trip back to south Georgia (500 miles) was a short in the trailer lights. When stopping for gas, we would check the lights. Sometimes they were working, other times, they were not. Thankfully, we didn't have to drive at night, so I drove with my SUV's emergency blinkers flashing. Since I paid for insurance (only $30), I attempted to call U-Haul Roadside Assistance in Greenville, SC. It was laughable, at best. No live person would answer! Instead, a recording advised me to go to the U-Haul.com/help website. After about 20 minutes of attempting to navigate the website on my cell phone, I gave up and we continued to South Georgia with flashing emergency blinkers. This is not an indictment of Peak Fitness U-Haul unless they had been told of the light problem. But rather a shout-out to the U-Haul company to provide better, more direct service to the clients who lease their equipment. I can't imagine what we would have had to deal with had a breakdown occurred on one of the several interstates or one of the many rural roads that we travelled on our NC-GA route!!! I've rented U-Haul trailers at least a couple of dozen times and I've never had to move the trailer and hook it up myself. The trailer was full of leave and debris. The attendant couldn't even figure out how to print my rental contract. He was much more attentive to the gym business than to the U-Haul side of the business. Wouldn't recommend them and will find another U-Haul location when I rent again.EUGENE R.

The truck pick-up Location changed twice in two days. I finally picked the truck up and Jim Campen trailer sales in Arden, NC. When the truck was picked up on Saturday I signed the pick-up documents showing that the truck had 1/2 tank of fuel. When I turned the truck in later on Saturday at Peak Fitness in Banner Elk, NC it was at 1/2 tank as required. The manager of this location was busy lifting weights and did not check the vehicle prior to me leaving. Upon receiving an email with my billing receipt I was charged for 15 gallons of fuel at a rate of $73.00 Including taxes. When I returned to the location a young gentleman tried to help but was unable. He called the manager who told me to call a number that went to Savanah, GA. That member of U-Haul could not reimburse my credit for the charges and transfered me to a NC location. That member then states it would be Tuesday or Wednesday of next week before anyone could assist me in getting my reimbursement for the IMPROPER FUEL CHARGES. Who is responsible for this mistake? It needs to be corrected immediately. There is absolutely no excuse for this.GREGORY D.

Scheduled an appointment at 9 and owner didnt show up til 9 45 causing me to be late. He didnt give me paperwork and barely checked to make sure the trailer was set up right on my carAles K.
The people were super nice â€¦ The truck we received had blown tires that had to be replaced by roadside assistance before we could load the truck and drive it any further. We have pictures. The person that fixed the tires said that if we had loaded the truck and driven through the mountains, that the tires would have blown off the truck and with a full truck, we would have flipped the truck. I'm just glad we realized that there was a problem. We lost two days! I'm furious and think that we should be refunded the money for our rental. Something about a guy doing burpees right beside you when you are trying to pick up your rental, (that I used the pre-checkin for), is just awkward. The person running the front desk did not know what he was doing and needed a second guy, who stopped his workout, to come over and finish the checkout. We had reserved pads which were not in the truck. Truck had not been cleaned either. Last time I rent from there for sure.Rick S.
