I rented a truck for a day, about 8 hours. I left the truck in the same condition I found it which was exceptionally clean, but I was still charged a cleaning fee? Can you explain why? Thanks

On Monday evening I had reserved a uhaul to pick up a couch. It was the first of the month and I had to be out of my apartment. My roommate and I reserved the uhaul for 7-9 pm giving us two hours until the last drop off time. When we got to the location to pick up the uhaul, we were told they didn’t have our vehicle but that they could give us another one instead. This didn’t seem to be an issue as the couch would still fit in the new vehicle. However, the process of changing the reservation took the team an hour to complete. We knew we were now cutting it close to get the vehicle back by 9 but were confident we could get the job done - plus we didn’t have much of a choice. We got the couch out and drove to our destination. The ride was easy and the vehicle was sufficient, with a little extra maneuvering on our end. However, by the time we arrived at our destination it was 8:40 and we still needed to get gas and return the vehicle. We could not get the job done. Unfortunately we lose the couch which was a great expense to us. I am very disappointed as I have used uhaul several times and never had an issue like this. The lack of urgency in resolving the reservation issue has now cost us the value of the couch on top of the pointless uhaul trip. I am not making any absurd requests, only to be refunded the complete value of the uhaul rental. I expect this is a small price to pay (and fairly inexpensive reservation) to keep a customer. The van was not super clean. The entire truck had dents and scratches and the back door was hard to close to start... We had to extend the rental several times due to delay on the job at one point someone from this location called saying "bring back the truck we cannot extend the rental. Fuck you and bring it now or we will report it stolen" at the end of the 14 day rental. "Over $1000" was charged a $50 cleaning fee ontop of everything for bringing the truck back broom swept like I recieved it. Very poor service and location. I personally will never use Uhaul again after 3 good months of renting trucks for working spending thousands on rentals to be treated this way. I am now out truck shopping id prefer to spend 30k on a new van then give Uhaul another cent of my money to be called a thief.

I would not to do the self check in again, I wished I could have done part of it before I got to the facility it would have sped up the transaction. It would have been easier to just use the guy at the counter to get the truck.

the computer portal was difficult to use. it asks so many questions I thought the pictures of the dirty back was uploaded. And it you are a little late they add a fee. I have been going there for years and to be half hour late seems petty for a big company. Next time I will say 23hrs so I will be early when I return

There was a delay in getting our rental due to an incident involving a previous renter. We had to intervene in order to get our uhaul and get them back on track. The UHaul was dirty, unkempt, and made an odd noise as we were driving. Safety was an issue. Upon return and being a block away, an associate told us to come back after agreeing everything was okay. They just wanted $5 for cash for gas even though it was already agreed upon that the notch did not move. I would not recommend going to this location. Management needs to figure out better problem solving and communication amongst their team and how to handle customers.

not only was the front desk attendant very slow and not helpful, they also did not have the dollys and moving equipment we had reserved a month in advance on site and we had to move without it. Very annoying for a moving day

I ordered a dolly in advance and was only told at the pickup time there were not dolly available. No one called me in advance or alerted me. The service was not great. He only told me there is nothing he can do and didn’t provide any help. It’s very difficult when moving and there isn’t a dolly to use. Overall, he was not clear or easy to communicate with. The other person who assisted with return was very helpful.

Picking up this uhaul truck was beyond a nightmare. It was given to me an hour late and the app didn't let me pick up the truck, it kept saying I should return to the pick up location at 9 Pm even though it was almost 10 pm. I called customer service and they didnt help me and had no understanding of my issue whatsoever. This experience with uhaul services was absolutely horrible and I wouldn't recommend uhaul to anyone.

The person we dealt with was very unhelpful. He didn’t explain the protocol properly, and he didn’t give a valid reason as to why we couldn’t park our car in the lot. We asked to speak to the manager, and he said he didn’t know who or where he was. He definitely needs a course in customer service.

Improve customer service. Attendants were dismissive, condescending, lazy, and extremely unhelpful. Clean vehicles completely, or at least on the inside. My vehicle was disgusting, smelled, and had stains, food, napkins, and other stuff left behind from whoever used it last. I also reserved a dolly which I needed, but when I arrived to the location it was not in stock. Ensure that equipment offered is actually provided by the location listed.

Absolutely the worse experience of all. I have rented three times from U-Haul. And this one charge me extra miles. I only drove from 259 Linden St Brooklyn to 30 river court New Jersey. and it says 41 miles. I have been fraud. Please do check this contract number 25935807. I trusted U-Haul so i did not take a picture or anything but I do know how many miles between these two locations. Which is 11 miles.

The "self-check in" process that was offered when I made my online reservation is a terrible system. It would have been much faster to just go into the service station and have them help me with a normal check in. Why would I bother to enter credit card info, license plate, etc. online when I make the reservation if I have to do it all over again when I arrive via my phone and then still go inside to get a key? The staff and location were fine, its just the logistics of this process are not efficient at all.

The vehicle wasn't really clean inside the cabin or the back cargo area. A little construction dirt was in the rear and the drivers cabin needed a little cleaning to my taste. There was left over food container lids and other items such as a wet cloth in one of the side panels. Other then that, I like the location and some times the customer service but that varies.

Avoid this place at all costs. The night attendant extorted me for a tip, told me I was good on gas and didn't need to fill the tank up, and then I got charged for gas anyways. Unprofessional behavior and a scammer. I will take my business elsewhere. I should have read the reviews before choosing this place but I needed a truck last-minute. The truck also smelled strongly like cigarettes.

The man who initially helped us today was exetremely rude and kept us standing waiting to be helped for fifteen minutes, after which time he told us we had to Check ourselves in online on our phones. After attempting to do that the website told me I couldn’t so he made us wait an additional ten minutes before a woman came back and eventually helped us. Truly horrible service. We were also charged for 30 min of usage for the vehicle that we never used- we were there standing waiting to be helped. Also, we returned it thirty minutes early so in the end we paid for an hour that we did not use. We will never return to this location.
