I was extremely disappointed that U-Haul would associate its brand with this drop-off location. Is there not a vetting process that U-Haul uses for its neighborhood dealers? I recently rented two trucks from the U-Haul location in Eustis, Florida, and had issues with both rentals when returning them to the Rich Food Mart drop-off location. First Rental: The first issue involved the fuel level. Upon returning the truck, Rich claimed the fuel level was below where it should have been and charged the credit card on file. However, this made no sense. When I picked up the truck, the dashboard indicated 106 miles to empty. By the time I left the Eustis location, it showed 91 miles to empty, meaning fuel had already been consumed before I even began my trip. Common sense would indicate that I returned the truck with at least as much fuel as when I received it. Despite explaining this, I was still charged. Second Rental: The second issue involved mileage. The manager at the Eustis location specifically assured me that the mileage from Eustis to Crystal River was included in the rental and even added an extra 50 miles to ensure I would remain within the allotted mileage. Nevertheless, when I returned the 15-foot truck to Rich Food Mart, Rich charged my card an additional $20 for supposedly exceeding the mileage allowance. Interestingly, this issue did not occur with the 26-foot truck during my first rental. While the total amount in dispute is only about $35, that is not the point. The principle matters. Customers should be able to trust that U-Haul's authorized dealers will apply charges fairly and consistently. My experience with this location reflects poorly on the U-Haul brand and has left me very dissatisfied. I would appreciate U-Haul reviewing these charges and evaluating whether this dealer is meeting the standards expected of an authorized U-Haul representative. He kept referring to the contract and we told him we asked the pickup location individual to document that we only received 10 and he told us to just leave. I didn't blame the receiver...he was just following the contract. Overall this location is okay and acceptable.
