Opening hour was 10am but there was no one till 10:05 and the site is like construction site which feels unsafe. And the guy on the phone sounded impatient by me asking to repeat the instructions. The service and overall experience was horrible

Headache and long process to do the “self check out”. Once finished had to wait over 30 minutes for employee to arrive to finish process, because no one was on site.

The site was a large parking lot. The parked vehicles (not uhaul owned) blocked the visual on where the uhaul container was, in order to get the keys. I would suggest not blocking it with cars or moving the container up, so its the first thing you see. Going in the main gate was super sketchy, with only a little "uhaul" sticker on a roadside sawhorse. It would be nice if the uhaul area was easier to find, especially in the early hour.s. The Return area was super hard to miss, due to the banner and cones, but the pickup and the key area were hidden. I walked around the full lot before finding it as there are storage units all over that property. Overall, this site was a horrible experience and it made me question why I rented from Uhaul in the first place. I had a 7am pickup, arrived 15 minutes prior to make sure I had enough time to look over the vehicle, then didnt actually leave with the car until 8:35am due to all the issues I had all morning. It was a nightmare that put me behind schedule by over an hour. On top of which, the lock to get the keys was set to the unlock code to where if I had found the key box and tried to open them, I would have had the keys in hand before even signing in to the pickup. Whoever did the setup either was trying to be super helpful, or didnt care about their job at all.

The app does not always work for the pick-up/check-in. Don't waste your time calling customer service, and just log-in through your web browser! Found that tip from an earlier review, really helped me out. Everything else was fine.

State pick up steps ahead of time so that it doesn’t take 30 mins after someone requested to use the vehicle just to be able to get inside of it.

eWell, actually, U-Haul changed the reservation to 1209 Arguello St. REdwood City but once we got by that hassle, the proprietor was quite helpful both in terms of helping with a complicated trailer hook-up and noticing my sunglasses sitting on a bumper. Thanks!

Have the hauling (dolly) equipment already in the truck upon mobile pick up. We had to wait for someone to come to our location to unlock the chain and give us our utility & furniture dolly.

The reason I am giving an average rating is that I spent an hour using the U-Haul app to check out the truck via their online system. It was not working and kept giving geolocation errors. I used the phone number provided at 2949 Edison Way (the guy in charge of the trucks parked there) and received no help. In the end, I called U-Haul customer service, and they told me not to use the app!! WHAT?! Instead, they asked me to log in to the system using a browser. Although that solved the problem, I ended up calling different numbers and spending around an hour figuring out what to do.

The owner of this location provided some of the worst customer service I've ever seen. He was very rude over the phone, talked over me instead of listening to my questions, hung up on me, got frustrated when I called him back before he was done dealing with another customer, etc. When I got to the location, the app then informed me the truck was at a different address...so I called him back, and he gave me a story about me and another customer both wanting the same truck at the same time, so he tried to switch her but switched me accidentally instead...he told me he would be there "in a minute" to help. 25 minutes later he arrived, opened the key box, and I was on my way. There was no documentation about condition of the vehicle or fuel level, but I did take a photo of the fuel gauge just in case. Dropoff had no issues (probably because he wasn't involved). However, when I received the invoice I was billed for 393 miles of driving - I actually did only 33. This, he corrected on his own. There is another line item for about $10 of gas that I was billed for, despite my returning the truck with exactly the same amount of fuel. I called him to try to correct this, and he just talks in circles endlessly about how he can check the gauge when he gets back to the yard...I'm not arguing about the position that the gauge is in now, I'm arguing about the position that it was in when I picked it up, but he just can't wrap his head around this concept. Or, less charitably, he's doing it on purpose as a strategy to eek a little more money out of his customers by being obtuse and impossible to deal with. Either way, I can't believe this guy runs a business.

No confirmation calls were made until I was running late and than no confirmation of location was stated . Went to location or rental and was told it was not there and I needed to travel b hour out of my way to two more locations to pick up the trailer . As location that was set for was closed when I arrived and I had to go to a third location. I would never suggest to anyone to use U-Haul ever again .

The gentleman person that rented me the trailer was not friendly, lied and told me he did not have a tow ball available when indeed he did and asked me to lift the trailer onto my truck because he could not do it by himself at time of pickup. A customer should not have to do this… When I returned the trailer yesterday, I called the same gentleman as instructed to do so by him when I picked up the trailer and he said just drop it off at the yard where I got it from. He also said that nobody is there and that he would take care of the paperwork once he got back to the yard. I had to disconnect the trailer myself and injured my back doing so and am extremely disappointed in my entire customer service experience.. The trailer worked out great but the customer service was horrible and I will never rent from this location again and may need to go to another rental company if this is the service UHaul presents to its customer’s.

Small lot with a few trucks. The surprising and frustrating aspect of the 4 hour rental was returning the vehicle using the U-Haul app which is so slow and cumbersome. Over 45 minutes to turn in a rental van. Terrible experience and would never recommend U-Haul to anyone because of the return experience. Fix this aspect and along with the requirement for 2 "emergency contacts" requirement and the experience would have been fine.

I requested my pickup at a different location only for U-Haul to call me 12 hours before informing me the location changed for pickup from San Francisco to Redwood city. This added time and frustration to the day I was moving. Furthermore, the employee at Redwood city was rude and abrasive. I was scheduled for an 8am pickup but he said U-Haul had told him 9am so I was forced to wait while he got things ready which also added additional time even though I confirmed on the phone when booking that my trailer would be ready for 8am. Overall poor experience from all aspects.

my experience with Rick at this location has been fantastic. I appreciated the text message and phone call follow ups before during and after my rental experience as well as the friendly attitude in person when dropping off the box truck. I’m going to rent from this location with Rick again in the future and will recommend to friends as well. It’s not just a rental experience, it was a truly great customer service experience.

Awful. Original pickup location changed after pickup time. Equipment not at second location when I arrived. Wasted an afternoon and lost $300 in revenue for failure to deliver trailered item on time. Amateur hour. If there were a convenient alternative, you can be certain I'd never rent from U-Haul again.

Quality communication from the owner of the lot but fix the online check in. No one answered and I was on hold 20 min to pick up my truck. Thank goodness the lot attendant came back. Your online pick up option is not something I will ever select again. Chat bots are terrible.

Though the fellow who helped me was flexible with the pick up time, he was 45 minutes late to our scheduled pick up time and seemed rushed. Also, the truck was not clean, but worst was that the truck itself needed repair to be drivable. The fuel hose needed to be replaced, and I discovered this only the following day when I tried to gas up, and $15 worth of gas gushed out of the hose and onto the ground before I realized what was happening. This caused a multi-hour delay, incurred costs for my movers that I had to pay, and then rebook different movers later in the day. This cost me hundreds of dollars extra, and delays.

The equipment at this location seems to be better maintained than in some other locations. I think the owner/contractor takes pride in the meticulousness of the equipment. I prefer this location over others equally nearby because I can count on this. Good guy (Rick?), easy to find once you know where it is, and in-n-out service. 5-star

Employee misheard when I would be at remote pickup location in the morning. He then left when I was only 15 minutes away, and said he would return right away. He left me waiting for over an hour at a remote pickup location at a locked gate with no seating or other services available. very poor communication from the employee.

Not optimal drop off location for a trailer. Managed to get the trailer off the hook, but would have appreciated some help. Next time will probably pick a manned location. But, central location and convenient drop off. Depends what equipment I'm renting.

The owner of this location had 2 locations. The first was nestled in an industrial/residential area that looked like a junk yard. I called for service, because nobody was there to greet me. There was just a sign for me to call for service. The person who picked up was likely the manager/owner of this U-haul business. He told me that the trailer that I had reserved was at another one of his lots and he texted me the address for pickup. When I arrived, the location for trailer pickup was an huge empty lot with a handful of U-haul trailers. There was no office, just the owner with a tablet. He was very knowledgeable, however, and kind, however. Less than average start, but by the end it was an average experience.

Drop off was a bit odd and seemed like an empty parking lot. Staff were very helpful and proactive (Rick) which far made up for the location.

The equipment worked as expected, however, the U-Haul Rep did not explain the features or workings of the trailer. If you didn't have experience using a trailer, you have to figure it out yourself . This an independent contractor who cared more for his money than customer service, zero people skills. He complained that I was late for the pick up and late dropping off the trailer. I would use a U-Haul trailer again, however, NOT through this rep.

The signage was terrible. It felt like a back alley transaction. The guy who helped us was not in any u-haul uniform or truck. We basically didn’t think this was a “real” location. The guy was great though and helpful. He had the needed cable for my truck on hand and knew the process. He was able to answer our questions and coordinated the pickup well.

I find renting from this Redwood City office is a much better experience--because the guy is timely, he communicates well, as soon as I arrive he is able to help me, but MOST importantly he makes it way easier on me for pickup and drop-off because he shows me where the trailer is and helps me hook it up. (As a non-technical woman, all of these little details are super helpful!) When I return, he does all the work to get it unhooked and repacked. Such an excellent customer experience I rented from this locale 3x this month since I'm doing a big project!

I had not realized that this was not a full service U-Haul location. When I picked up the truck there was no mention that the return would be fully on-line. I had to download the App, take photos etc in the pouring rain. I would not use this location in future.

No signage or office to check in. My appointment time was at 9:30 am at a different location, but then I got an anonymous text with this location the day before indicating a pick-up at 9:00 am. THEN, the morning of the pick-up I got an email / text suggesting that the pick-up would not be until 9:50 am. However, when I arrived timely, the service provider still didn't show-up until 30 minutes later at 10:20 am. To make matters worse, the weather was unsettled and I Ubered to the location. There was nowhere dry to wait.

Nobody was present when I showed up. When I called the numbers listed on signs, nobody answered but it went straight to voicemail. Luckily, some customer there knew of a different number to call. The person who answered said I I had to wait 20 minutes because he was out for lunch and I was not scheduled until noon anyway. Not U-Haul worthy. The return was the same. No one there but luckily I was able to do the drop off using the app.
