We returned the truck on a Saturday at noon as pre-determined and the attendant greeted us, came out , inspected the truck, opened both the cab and the cargo area, noted to us the two bags of returned moving pads, and then told us that the owner would take care of the paper work on Monday. We did not find this process unusual given we were returning the truck on the weekend. On Monday, Mr. Rooney called me and told me that he had inspected the truck and found only one bag of pads and that six pads had not been returned. He told me we would be charged for those six pads. I informed him that we had indeed returned all the pads and that his man had indicated to us that he had seen them. I asked him to check again because I knew that they had been returned. As I thought about the call afterward, I began to feel increasingly uneasy and decided to return to Rooney Motors since I was still in the area. If the pads were still missing, I intended to tell Mr. Rooney that I would be filing a theft report with the local police since the pads had been left in an unlocked truck on his used car lot. Mr Rooney was visibly surprised to see me when I told him who I was and why I was there. He assured me that there was no problem and that the pads were not missing and all was well. I thanked him and we went on our way. (I wonder if I would have been charged had I not shown up in person to check on the status of the "missing' pads?) The entire incident left me with a bitter taste in my mouth and I would not choose that drop off location again.

Tried to charge me $20 to park in his lot, I didn’t have cash so he refused to let me park. I ended up finding a dirt pull off down the street and parking there then walking back. He was very rude about the whole thing. He didn’t explain anything about the vehicle to me or do any sort of inspection.

Service is bad in the area, nothing they can do about that, but the WiFi isn’t strong enough to complete 24/7 drop off procedures. I called U-Haul customer service and confirmed it would be fine and I would not be charged an additional fee—they even confirmed that they left notes on my transaction explaining that I had dropped off my rental within the required time. The next morning I received the late fee charge and had to spend 20 minutes on the phone with customer service to get that refunded. Overall just frustrating and annoying.

the rental process via the mobile app was a complete failure. after the call to get live online help. the woman guided me through the process but it was very slow and ultimately after spending 30 min... in the verification process, the app crashed and I had to start over again. pick up ended in a 1.5-hour process with the person at the rental pick-up place...

AWESOME experience! My truck broke down trying to help my brother move. In a panic I called Rooney's and they were closing in like 15 minutes. He was SO kind on the phone and through the whole process was so understanding. He helped me through and even stayed later so I could grab a UHaul! From the phone call to driving away was less then an hour! I would recommend 10/10!!!!!

When I had initially taken possession of the truck there was a mix-up in terms of insurance. I called uhaul within the time frame for altering my reservation, and was told to go back to the site with a photo of the odometer and gas gauge, and they could amend my reservation. When I got to the site I was greeted by a gentleman who was less than polite. Right off the bat it was obvious he was annoyed by me even entering the office. When I relayed the message I’d received from uhaul, he said he couldn’t do that and without my prompting stated he would call his boss because “I know you won’t believe me about this” (I never said this-I was just confused because I was following Uhaul’s instructions). At one point when talking on the phone to his boss he said, “see what I have to deal with?” I did respond at that point to clarify that I’d been kind to him, and didn’t appreciate the rudeness. He tried to pass it off as if he were talking about uhaul, however in the context of the entire conversation I hesitate to trust this narrative. Like I said- he was annoyed that I’d even walked in the door. I have rented from uhaul many times in the past and never had this kind of problem. I have also never filled out this detailed of a response to a customer service questionnaire, but it was so uncomfortable. I was polite. I did not make demands. I had already disengaged and was actually walking out the door already when he said the bit about what he’s been dealing with.

Didn’t need to be “mansplained” by the owner when I suggested that I shouldn’t be charged for the additional 20 miles his location would cost me when I had booked the van for Brewster where I live. Rather than simply say sorry I can’t do it he launched into how lucky I was to get “his” Van on a holiday weekend. Like he was the wounded party having to rent his van. Wow.

The video that explains what to expect when doing a virtual checkin leaves out a lot of information. At Rooney Motors, there was barely any cell service and between the slowness of that and being unprepared for the questions (i.e. getting other people to vouch for you and call/text them for when the background check thing goes through, checking for damages, etc.) I wasted 30-45 minutes doing the check-in. Had I been prepared, if the video was more informative, I would have been ready for the virtual check in. Also, the emergency brake was very hard to disengage. It took several tries and anxiety thinking I wouldn't be able to disengage it after every time I had to engage it. Overall, it was a positive experience though.

U Haul application requesting photo of driver’s license did not work after several attempts. Customer service at Rooney Motors was great in resolving this problem.

Easy process and pick up. Friendly gentlemen who offered assistance and blankets (were not needed) as an additional free service. No on site parking however drop off after hours was not penalized with additional fees. I would utilize these vehicles again .
