HANNAH ECustomer service does not appear to be a priority at this location (San Marcos Self Storage.) I started by trying to book a rental via the phone app and then ended up calling the 1-800-U-haul number (The woman who assisted me was very professional and helpful.) I gave her all the information, what coverage I wanted, emergency contact, insurances/coverage and even uploaded my driver's license. Upon arriving for my designated pick up time I got to wait a few minutes while the two gentlemen behind the desk discussed the personal idiosyncrasies of one of their storage clients and the history of their timing with his monthly rental check payments. I was then finally asked what I needed and let them know that I was there to pick up my rental van. The man who appeared to be responsible for the rental units apologized for my wait while far less friendly man took my name and my license & credit card which I had ready and just seemed bothered to have to interact. He then spent the next several minutes asking the same questions that I already answered and were in my contract already as I had a copy on the app. He was difficult to understand, kept asking about the coverage without explaining it (The woman on the phone had answered my questions about coverage and I had made my informed choice at that time) when I let him know I had already chosen the level of coverage he just kept repeating that I had waived coverage which was misleading and ended up getting a higher level that I didn't want or need. He got up from his chair exactly once to retrieve the key. I left feeling frustrated. I would much rather have dealt with a site that primarily deals with the rental side or strictly via the app. The van was dirty (covered in ash from our local fire) with less than half a tank of gas. The man who assisted me was not only not helpful, not friendly and but in retrospect likely makes money from upgrading insurances and mileage overages. All in all it was such a disappointment after my interaction with the 1-800 woman who was not only very courteous and helpful, but also extremely personable. I extended my rental via the app (very easy) returned it with slightly more gas and early via the app and was charged a $25 cleaning fee. The van was used to load tables and chairs and deliver to two separate sites. There was no garbage left behind. Just another upcharge I guess.
SUZANNE HI have used u-haul services many times. I was very impressed by the Santa Barbara Office. The manager bent over backwards to help me select the correct truck for my purpose. Hauled a bunch of stuff successfully and without any problems. Thank you U-Haul...!!!

RACHEL OSo easy--the man in the office was friendly, professional and very helpful. I do wish there were a way to anchor the dolly when picking up and returning so it's not careening around slamming into the walls at every turn, but otherwise, equipment was good. Easy parking right in front.

ETHAN Jgreat employee! However, i think its not right that the trucks arent filled up! First, wasting my time and secondiily you are really taking money from your customers both ways, i fill up because only a 1/4 tank and when i leave there is now a half tanks which means the next customer pays ti 1/2 plus any extra and it grows. What a rip off!!!!
LOUIE PTruck was clean worked as expected. Location was clean and had secured temporary parking for my car while I used the truck, which I appreciated. Customer service was good for the limited amount of interaction I had; I booked online and checked-in online so i just needed to show my driver's license and be on my way. ** The reason I rated this only two stars is because "SafeMove" insurance was added to my bill when I clearly and deliberately opted out when I setup the reservation. I even have the online reservation receipt that shows it was NOT selected yet it was added to my final bill. I reached out to the email address provided asking for the charge to be removed but have not received a response and the charge shows on my credit card. This is not acceptable and feels intentional.

JORDAN FThe cigarette lighter was not working, so my phone would not charge.They had outdated u s b.Ports. Because of this, I was locked in a yard for fifteen hours before somebody would let me out, because I couldn't call anybody because my phone was dead. It was fifteen hours I had to pay for it. From six p m to 9 a m the following morning i sat in the truck.I'm waiting for somebody to open the gate.

ALLEN HA U-Haul is a U-haul, after 20 plus years in the Army moving every 2 to 3 years I have used lots of U-haul services. What i have never seen before was staff like you have there! Friendly, outgoing and super helpful! What an absolute pleasure to deal with! Well done guys!! The Wyoming guy, definitely bringing Elk on my next visit!

JOSE MCustomer service was great. The problem is that they do not have any towing balls or trailer plug adaptors, so you have to go to another branch to get these items. Ordered 12 blankets and they only had 6.

Emma BWay too much to do before picking up the U-Haul. I spent a good 20 minutes trying to get everything done to actually pick it up and having to take all the pictures before and after. I almost missed my pick up time for the item I rented the U-Haul to go get.
