We were extremely happy with the U-Haul location in Valley City! The staff was very helpful and got us on our way. Having said that, we did have some issues, though. We had originally reserved a 26 foot truck for pick up in Carrington, ND. The day before pickup, we were informed Carrington did not have a truck. We would either have to go to Devils Lake (an hour away from our house) and pick up a 20 foot truck or go to Bismarck (2 hours away) to pick up a 26 foot truck. We agreed to pick up the smaller truck in Devils Lake. Friday morning, we arrived for pick up at 9am per the reservation agreement. The person in Devils Lake not only wasn't at the location, but she wouldn't answer her phone. We called customer service. A manager from Minneapolis tried calling Devils Lake and the regional manager 4 times while we were on the phone. Neither answered. She did compensate us our reservation fee and found a 20 foot truck in Valley City (another 2 hours away). She reserved it for us and also added an additional 2 days and 450 miles to compensate us. We got our truck picked up and I have absolutely no complaints about the store in Valley City, other than they did not have a dolly that we needed (not a huge deal either). They did have an appliance dolly we were able to get. We drove home 2.5 hours to start the moving process. By the time we got home, over half the day was gone due to the U-haul place in Devils Lake not being open. Due to the smaller truck, we did have to make additional trips to move to our new house. Overall, we were satisfied with U-haul, their truck and equipment, their willingness to help us find a truck that day, and compensating us for the reservation fee, mileage, and days to use the truck. The Valley City location was very helpful and wonderful to work with; our only complaints were the issue with the U-haul location in Devils Lake, ND and the smaller truck instead of the larger truck we had reserved.

Fairly painless once the rental person was found and once the U-Haul check-in device decided to work the check-in went smoothly. No signage in store to direct customers. Muddy and dusty outside. Little space to park on level ground. Told the maintenance items would be turned in for attention.
