I’ve rented from U-Haul before without issues, but this time the pickup location gave me a truck that clearly hadn’t been maintained or inspected. The interior was dirty, the windshield wipers were old and barely worked, the headlights were extremely dim, and the gear indicator was misaligned. Even more concerning, the truck experienced serious mechanical and electrical problems during my long-distance drive, including a complete lighting failure and an engine stall that caused loss of power steering and braking. The drop-off location told me the truck I was given appeared to be a local use truck which makes me think there may have been a mixup or that the wrong truck was assigned for a long haul rental.
