yubo fTo U-Haul Corporate Management, I am writing to formally lodge a complaint regarding a deeply frustrating and completely unacceptable experience with multiple U-Haul locations in Winnipeg (Waverley, Pembina, and Dawson Road) over the past two weeks. The level of service I received ranged from utter incompetence to outright harassment and attempted financial fraud. 1. Complete Lack of Communication & System Failures For two weeks, I attempted to call multiple Winnipeg locations to book a truck, but no one ever answered the phone. Left with no choice, we drove to the Waverley location in person. After waiting for 15 minutes, the staff member finally informed us that their systems were down and the website wasn't working—a waste of our time that could have been avoided with proper communication. 2. Last-Minute Route Changes and Financial Penalties Once the website was functional, I successfully booked a 26-foot truck online for the Pembina Highway location. However, just four hours before my scheduled pickup, I received a text message stating my truck was not ready and that I had to pick it up from the Dawson Road location instead. Forcing a customer to change locations at the last minute and expecting them to pay the extra mileage fees incurred by your own logistical failure is entirely unacceptable. 3. Hostile and Discriminatory Behavior (Pembina Location) When we visited the Pembina location on Saturday at 2:00 PM to resolve the issue, having to waste our gas again, because no one was picking up the phone, the employee on duty was incredibly rude and unprofessional. He aggressively insisted that I didn't even have a reservation, despite the fact that I was looking at my online and text receipts. He repeatedly talked down to me and treated me with utter disdain—a condescending attitude that felt pointedly misogynistic. Because of his hostility, we were forced to reschedule our entire move for the following day. 4. Discrepancy in Staffing Quality When we finally picked up the truck on Sunday at 10:00 AM from the Pembina location, the experience was entirely different. The older gentleman working the morning shift was incredibly friendly, personable, and professional. When I explained my moving route, he accurately assisted me with my 40 km mileage quote and kindly let us use an appliance dolly free of charge for the inconvenience we had faced. 5. Attempted Fraud, Lack of Paper Trail, and Further Belittlement Unfortunately, when it came time to return the truck, the rude employee from Saturday was back on shift, and the experience immediately degraded: Unprofessional Conduct: He began by making condescending remarks, telling me to make sure my uncle (the driver) "parked it good," as if managing the lot wasn't his own job. Attempted Overcharging: He tried to claim I had used 51 km instead of the actual mileage, attempting to bill me for an extra 11 km. Refusal to Provide Documentation: He refused to physically check the mileage upon return and vehemently resisted giving me a receipt. He explicitly tried to avoid leaving a paper trail. Hostage Tactics: I openly communicated that the dolly was on its way from my house. Instead of processing the truck return transparently, he used the missing dolly as an excuse to stall, refusing to do anything until it arrived, while simultaneously trying to sneak in the false mileage charges. It was like pulling teeth just to get a proper, honest receipt. This entire experience was garbage. I am appalled by the behavior of the afternoon employee at the Pembina location. He actively tried to scam me, lie about my reservation, and intimidate me because I demanded an accurate receipt.

Anil KThis location if fine. My issue is with the online booking service. What is the point of filling in a booking online if at the location you need to answer all the same questions about insurance, return time, reprocess the credit card on file. If there is one or two people in front you are in for a 20 minute wait. This should be a scan and go process. I like the equipment and the price is fair.
YAN LThere was no one there to help me with my rental, and the customer support line was zero help. I left without my truck rental. I will never book a rental with Uhaul ever again, and I'm pretty sure Uhaul doesn't give a crap about me or my business. This is the same experience I've had with Uhaul over and over again. Terrible. Absolutely terrible.

Space was so limited to maneuver, I ended up having to do multiple maneuvers to turn my truck and the trailer around just to back it into a small space.

My reservation had guaranteed pickup in the morning but the shop was closed and they did not left my keys. I called u haul and they said that i will have to wait until they open which was about 3 hours later my pickup. No compensation or apologies at all instead telling me that i should be scheduling the pickup so early in the morning.

wiaam zHi.the customer service rep was very hard to understand ,took quite long to get my truck that I had a reservation for. I would not use this Uhaul location again. Got the key and went to pick up the truck. Truck was filthy inside the cab and the outside.I had to get a cloth to wipe the windows and mirrors could not drive away as the windows and mirrors were impossible to see out of them. Truck cab was filthy looked liked it was not cleaned from the last rental. We had to fill out a form to say what was the issues with the truck. Had a crack in front window, inside cab lite on dash read tire pressure sensor was on the whole trip,was a 2/1/2 ride to adhere Manitoba in a filthy cab. I am expecting some compensation for the rental,not sure what it will be. Front end felt like it could use a front end alignment, tough to steer for a newer ford truck.Wait and bc see how I am treated as I will get a call from upper management on this matter.????????.The problem I picked the truck up a true blue car wash and the the truck was not cleaned ,not sure about that,just shook my head and drove off to my destination.

ismet oNewer very clean trailer. Great staff Rented for 2 days however returned it 4 hours over 1 day and staff only charged for the one day. Much appreciated. Only negative is the lot is quite congested. It’s shared with a car wash and car wash line can interfere with access to trailers on pick up and return.

veronica rThe lot where the trailer was parked was muddy and sloppy to work in as I had to inspect it and walk around it. The trailer was covered with dirt, there was trash in the trailer as if someone had been using it for shelter. There was no offer to clean the trailer, so I asked to use his car wash, to which he hesitantly agreed. So instead of cleaning it for me, I washed it inside and out. The tires were aired up - and the electrical connection worked - so that was good. I would expect UHAUL to provide $50 refund for this extra hassle.

MOHAMMED Nthe truck itself worked fine mechanically, the lack of proper winter-ready tires created a serious inconvenience, and the fuel billing was frustrating and confusing. I’d only recommend using U-Haul if you double-check the tire condition and fully understand their fuel policy — otherwise, you might end up dealing with unnecessary hassle.

MUHAMMAD ISince didn't have a chance to rent a Cart and dolly for moving items at Crossfield, Alberta. Needed to rent from Winnipeg nearby location. Returning location and cart, Dolly rental locations were separate, so made separate trips to collect and return them which was very inconvenient.
UMESH PI had an excellent experience renting from this location. The attentiveness and customer care was simply outstanding. Truly so grateful for the service.
