MICHAEL WI got a unit for two months. I told this to the person working when I signed up. I assumed (wrongly) that by giving my payment info that I would be charged the next month. Nope. Instead I got a letter saying I had been charged a late fee for not paying on time. I tried calling multiple times and could never get through. Yet I hadn’t known that I hadn’t paid because I assumed the initial day of set up had set up payment. Then! On Feb 28 I rented a truck and cleared my unit. It was after hours and so the guy working earlier had said to use the app. I followed the steps in the app to cancel my unit. I took photos and submitted. Since then I have a note on the app saying that my cancellation is still pending approval. Today I get another notice saying I have not paid for my unit. Um … I don’t have a unit anymore. Even your app agrees. I will hopefully never have to use U-Haul again. Highly do not recommend because their communication is so poor. It is so difficult to call and talk to anyone. I even drove there once to ask a question and the guy working called me sweetie multiple times and was dismissive of my question. One good thing - when we rented a truck, there was a glitch in the system and we were supposed to return it too soon. The manager working (that’s the only day I met him) was helpful to get us a van instead that we could keep for the time we needed. I was grateful for his help as moving is such a stressful thing.

AMANMEET BWent in for a mobile pickup and thought it would be a breeze. However I had to wait till the place opened to even get the keys. This delay made us miss our ferry and ended up spiraling our whole day off. Dropping it off wasn't any easier. The mobile app was easy enough to navigate, no problem with that. However this place had no area to park our truck. The gate was closed due to being after office hours and they had 3 spots to park in front of the gate. ALL of those spots were full with trucks. The side of the road said no parking, the parking spots were full, the app said don't block the gate. It's just a mess. If you can see that a customer is coming in after office hours for drop off, move atleast one of those 3 vehicles behind your gates.

He was badly arguing with one of the customers who wanted to get the light bulb replaced. He was confused while settling my account despite of the fact that everything was very straightforward and was paid off in advance. Need to fix this guys attitude or someone will fix him.

Charles MThere is no parking for the vehicle you own when you switch to the uhaul. The service rep should walk you to the truck or at least make the effort to rent the truck closest to the office. This location has many alleyways and it qas confusing. The back truck door wasn't working smoothly and it made my day miserable when pushing it up or pulling it down. Why don't you insure equipment is maintenance before renting it out?

For all of the things that had gone wrong on such a stressful day, the interaction with him was kind, sincere, professional, and best of all Positive. He had be personable to just the right amount by disclosing a tid bit of something private (which I will not disclose) but kept it professional. I think he could see I was flopping like a fish out of water and his nice smile and kind voice made a big difference. It wasn't a long interaction. He was very efficient as we chatted briefly when I picked up the truck and even with the other ppl interjecting he stayed on point. A well run machine depends on the smoothness of the oil that runs thru it.

JASON MThe in-person rental process is somewhat redundant, given that we fill most of the information out in advance... there is some room for improvement in this to save time. Otherwise it was a good experience and good value.

Heather SI was a very long term patron... all things considered I found my use of the facility met my needs, but a while ago, under old management, I ran into troubles a few times with billing mistakes that were stressful as I was out of country and things were difficult to rectify due to long distance and unreliable internet services. Recently, moving out, my unit had a tendency to have the lights time out while I was in the unit. I think this was just bad luck as I suspect only a limited section of corridor would have had that problem. Still, you might want to adjust the sensors a bit and add more time to the lights. I also found the closing time was a bit early, Lastly, I did have some pest damage (rat droppings which had littered down from the ceiling area--- and a tiny bit of chewing)... very minimal so it was obviously not an infestation, and considering that my account spanned almost 2 decades, I am not complaining, but just felt I should let you know. With that said, though, I did have my stuff there for almost 2 decades, and was happy to find it still there, and had kept dry, So all's well that ends well, so I have to say I have no real complaints. I would use the facilities again if I had need. Thanks for taking care of my stuff.

MEGHAN MCheck out process was brutal. I waited 40+ minutes before giving the man the keys and paperwork and walking out as he was struggle to help another family register for storage. I don’t understand why told me I had to wait, but then told me it was okay to leave after I told him I was in a rush.

Communication between the head office on the computer where I booked and reserved a specific sized unit with the the local UHaul Storage Unit was very disappointing. The size of unit I had reserved for this Uhaul site was “not available” and I had to take a larger more expensive unit. I had no time to scramble and another place, move out was the next day. I was told head office does not have accurate knowledge of availability at the actual storage facilities. . This seemed very sketchy and to me , unprofessional, and a way to take advantage of people during what can be a vulnerable time. No light bulbs allowed in the unit was frustrating during winter months with early darkness and limited my access. A lot of small random debris often on the lane. I believe the bolt that went into my new front right winter tire was from this as I found two similar bolts further down the lane on my next visit as I walked to the office after parking at my unit. The tire was not repairable as the bolt went into the tire at the edge of the tire. Cost of repair $325. Of course this could not be proven but was likely the source in my opinion. Rodent droppings were evident when I completed my move out

The pavement is broken and full of gravel, very difficult to roll trolleys or carts over the pavement. When I removed my stuff before the end of the contract, I was not refunded for the time not used. This policy needs to be clearly explained BEFORE payment is given. Altogether a most horrid experience

Upon arrival I felt pressured by staff to move in immediately instead of on my reserved date of August 1. Staff stated my reservation which was made online was not going to be held until that date cause it could still be given away. What good is a reservation if it’s going to be given away even though it specifically states online that payment did not need to be made until date of move in. With all that being said, the move in was easy.

Christina H | First ImpressionsI needed storage during a move so I spoke with a uHaul rep on the phone looking for storage close to my new home. I needed vehicle storage as well as a small room, but was told that at the location I chose there was no vehicle storage. The uHaul rep also said because I had a uHaul truck rental I was eligible for first month free rent at this facility. Once I arrived to move my storage in, I noticed that this location did in fact have vehicle storage as there were vehicles stored on the rear of the property, I also noticed when I moved my items into the facility that my Visa was charged the first months rent and is scheduled to pay the second month. I have spent over an hour online and calling uHaul to find out why I was charged for the 'free' first month only to have the phone line constantly send me to the automated truck rental choices over and over with no representatives to speak to. At this point I'm somewhat frustrated as this free first month was appealing to me after the high cost of moving and fuel, but I guess it's just a bait and switch? I'm not interested in wasting any more time trying get in touch with uHaul and the facility phone just rings with no answer, so I guess if you rent from here be loud and clear about the free month you were offered.

First, the U-Haul website isn't linked to their system, so even tho the site says they have certain units available at this location, they don't. Next, they make you use a certain kind of lock, no others, but they only ever have like five in stock at a time, so they were sold out. I had to drive all the way to Home Depot to buy one. Then, I paid for two months in advance and moved out two days before my last day. I wasn't told I needed to check out with the office. Ffwd a month and I get an email saying I'm being billed for another month because they didn't even check to see if I had moved out. 0/10 would not recommend.

With that being said, although I was rented a unit based on computer availability, and not because anyone physically confirmed previous tenant had moved out, I was still able to move in, and everyone whom I dealt with thus far, including site manager, has been amazing and helpful, thank you.

The Hazelwood facility was ok and the staff there are all excellent, however, right from the beginning, Uhaul didn't honour our original reservation for a much larger unit and another location of theirs in Abbotsford. The Hazelwood location did their best to accommodate us, but in the end, we had to have 4 small units instead of only 1 or 2 and this cost us money due to increased monthly fees, not to mention, inconvenience. The system to collect payment is also terrible and even though we filled out "auto-pay" online for our account, it didn't take payment so we were charged late fees and even our parents received late payment notices. Very unprofessional and disorganized overall. Our only complaint specifically about the Hazelwood location, is that of the four units we had to use, not one of them had a working light bulb. Seems silly considering the cost to store there... I would use Uhaul again for renting their moving equipment, but not for storage, it was a very bad, stressful experience.

I made arrangements with a person at the head office as well as one of the people from the location i was utilizing as to when I would make the payment in full. I was then harassed multiple times a day with phone calls and an email threatening to put a lien on the unit. I also received a letter in the mail saying i needed to make the payment. I was not “hiding” or refusing to make the payment and was told the arrangements were satisfactory. I was then locked out of my storage unit until I payed the amount in full. I spoke with a lady that works at the location this occurred at and even she said that this was not acceptable behaviour from u-haul. So, I will not be using this location for anything and probably won’t use uhaul again.

Jessica H | Overall Experience160 after you guys cancelled my first Uhaul storage unit without giving me any reason at all then, when I called and explain I was told my new unit it was in hazelwood abbotsford and the lady booked it for me in the us in Bellingham. Then I went to hazelwood and found this out, so I asked what he has available the guy tells me to go see the unit myself did not attempt to come but drew a map, and it was so unsecured looking and I obviously didn't understand him and he made no attempt to try to help me understand. I have one month free since renting a 20 footer, but will be charged 160 for an ugly little narrow and long unit, same space but different shape as a wide unit. Uhaul is obviously a greedy company. I should have been charged less and I cant wait to move my stuff into a cheaper place. With better service. I let the guy know my frustration and so did my friend who was helping me, a single mother of an 8month old and I am pregnant. The guy working just shrugged his shoulders and said this is what we have.

The facility is secure and safe but the outdoor storage units should use laser lights in case they are concerned about fire hazards why they removed the original lighting fixtures from last year because it was hard to find things in the storage unit despite having a flashlight on hand. The policies are deplorable however. There should be an automatic refund for early move outs as a courtesy. *Lastly, your survey should separate the question about your facility being well lit and secure. Those are two separate questions. Yes it was secure and no, it was not well lit.

It was good that there was a washroom there but the soap dispenser was empty and had fallen off the wall. The garbage can needed emptying often. I never felt good with the lockers being made of wood. Anyone could move all their stuff out then later, walk in from the street and start a real barn burner without anyone knowing who did it. My previous storage areas were made of concrete brick or metal. This was the sole reason for my response of 'no' to question 6 above; otherwise it would be yes. My main reason for moving out was that I graduated to a 5' X 10' area. Thank you.

IH was very helpful, but it took considerably longer for us to park, remove the battery and store our jeep..Therefire, we gave an average rating.

The majority of the things were given to us from my dad and my Aunts estates after they passed away, so they were very sentimental to us. We were even told that there was a rat problem, from the employee. So they knew about it and never contacted any customers about the issue. We also know a few other people who store things there that had thousands of dollars stolen from there. We did not have insurance so we got no compensation for anything. Between us and our son we had 4 storage spaces there. We have only one unit left to clean out and we will never return there. We will be looking for storage elsewhere. We were given recommendations from people on Facebook who have also had issues with your storage facilities.

MACADAMS L | Overall ExperienceUnfortunately because of the some family health issues it took us a lot longer to be able to clean out our unit than we hoped. I believe it was about a year ago, may have been longer now. There were some break ins and stuff stolen from a few people’s lockers. (One happened to be our friend) Our one friend found paper left in his locker that had other unit numbers written on it and what kind of contents was inside. Our unit number was on this sheet and I’m not sure how they found out but they knew almost everything that was in our unit. Our unit was mostly keepsakes and a bike and a fan on the top but it also had electronics under all that stuff. Thankfully none of our stuff was stolen but the fact that they somehow got into our unit without a key is troublesome. The other part that worried me is that after all this happened and uhaul was informed of this and the police were called (all by our friend) uhaul never bothered to call and give us a heads up that we might want to check on our belongings to make sure everything was there. No call. No email. Even though our unit number was on the page and had an inventory of almost everything in our unit. For this reason I won’t be using uhaul storage unless it’s an emergency and I can’t get in anywhere else which is unfortunate because I had been with them for almost 5 years.

The police were called but by another customer who had experienced a theft of his tools at the same time. The camera footage of the theft was unusable by the police, I was told by police the thief used a swipe card of another customer but everyone denied it. Lucky I had insurance because the folks at uhaul are no help at all. I was told I would be sent the camera footage it was never sent to me .

There were a series of break-ins in RVs at the facility, but U-Haul neglected to advise other RV owners to come and check their unit. As a result, water was allowed in my unit for a month, the floor rotted and the trailer is now a total loss. That is why I no longer need storage. More transparency from management would have allowed me to check in my trailer right away and maybe avoided the total loss. I understand break-ins are not necessarily something you always control, but the subsequent actions are yours. You dropped the ball on that one.
