We recently moved ourselves from one house to another and hour and a half away. Everything about using U-Haul services, especially at this location, was top notch — cleanliness and security of storage facilities, availability and condition of rental trucks (5 different weekend rentals over a month and a half), and availability and price of moving supplies. Staff knowledgeable, friendly, and always helpful. Online experience (website and mobile app) intuitive and streamlined. U-Haul has it figured out.

I rented both a Cargo Van and a 10 Ft. Truck this week. It took me 45 minutes to check out the Cargo van because they were waiting for my 'emergency contact' they asked me for, to answer the phone and other bureaucratic requirements. There is this perception that since everything is done in the mobile phone environment without a paper contract it will go much faster....it doesn't. Different people told me different things. One person told me that if I rented the 10 ft. truck, and something was too big to fit into it, I could come back and get the 15 foot truck and all I'd have to do is pay for the mileage. When we rented the 10 ft. truck and found out we need the 15 ft. truck, we called in and told them we were going to trade it out and just pay for the mileage and the person said we couldn't do that...then left us on hold for 5-10 minutes and said, "OK, we'll do it as a one time courtesy". Finally we never received the on-line receipt for the Cargo Van. Without a paper contract, we have no record of the rental. Having learned that lesson when I brought back the 10 ft. truck and asked for a paper contract I was met with "Oh that could take a while" to which I said, "Forget it" and prayed I'd get an on-line receipt, which thankfully finally showed up. The entire crew there seems distracted...looking at their phones, discussing office politics. Would NOT recommend this location to anyone.

I am extremely disappointed with U-Haul. Starting from when we first made reservations all the way to utilizing the one month free storage they offer. I’ll start off with first making the reservation. We were unable to receive a trailer for our vehicle to be moved even after we were told there is one available for us when we pick up the truck. But that is not the biggest thing I am disappointed in. Customer service at the U-Haul In Chantilly, VA. When we first received our storage unit we moved our items in. We had a few boxes that were in great shape and asked one of their employees if we could leave them there. The employee said yes as long as they were reusable. Which they were. We left the boxes there thinking we were helping others out for reuse of some boxes (We would have taken them if the employee said they didn’t allow boxes to be left). We checked out of the storage unit a few weeks later and to our surprise we were charged $60 without notice that “we left trash” at their facility. We spoke with the Storage manager who’s name was Scarlett at the Chattily, VA location who gave us no attention and was extremely rude and she stated that we left trash there and she couldn’t help us after we explained the situation. She stated that because she doesn’t know the employees name there’s nothing she could do. Worst customer service I have ever received and really discredited the companies reputation. After disputing the charge to customer service, they sent the dispute to the same Storage manager Scarlett who was already unwilling to help. This to me discredits the reputation I once viewed U-Haul of having and will no longer use U-Haul because of how poor the company has treated its customers.

Process to actually reserve a truck is stupid. Why use my phone when I am standing there with U-Haul employees who aren’t doing anything? I have to go in my phone and turn on a bunch of invasive privacy settings, which is completely unreasonable. If I can avoid it I will not be using U-Haul again. Also the staff at Chantilly were just rude - refused to help, yelled to leave when dropping off van, and just not very nice.

1. Your Van is very old and has 191000 miles on it. 2. The Van is so old, has no technology options at all, such cruise control or oven a phone USB charger. 3. The van is so old it sucks on gas usage. 4. Customer service was very poor, the person I rented the van from, kept answering phone calls while I was still there waiting to be taken care off. At the end of the transaction, he left me to another person, who didn't have a clue how to complect the application on my iPhone. 5. Overall, you customer service and Van conditions are very poor.

Renting my storage at U-Haul for the past several years was a very good experience. It was clean, convenient, and my monthly unit rate rent was not raised one time!! which I very much appreciated. The only somewhat negative was the motion censored light in the hallway where my unit was would go off after about 5 min and then it became very dark and kind of scary so I would have to step out of my unit from what I was doing and set the light on again. Overall though, it was super convenient and user-friendly!

Make it clear to customers that if they exceed the 6 hours rental period (default on your site) by 1 minute, they will be charged a new rental fee, a new dolly rental fee and a new insurance fee. It added up to less 100 bucks. Not a big deal but I will never rent with you again because of that.

Having the check in process completely online is extremely difficult and challenging. It is not an easy or smooth process. For example our truck was parked behind another truck. Luckily someone was there to help us and get the keys to that truck and move it. If he has not been there I don’t know what we would have done.

When renting a truck from a verified U-Haul shop that is open for business with staff working, I feel it is poor customer service to force consumers to scan a barcode and reserve on the phone. Several others and myself had to get in line just to ask questions and it took much longer than necessary. I just prefer to hand my drivers license and credit card to an associate, check me in and hand me the keys. Biggest mistake by U-Haul in my opinion.

The return process tech was kind, efficient and professional. It was quite difficult to unlock the steering wheel column to start the truck. Even the drop-off tech confirmed this when he had difficulty (when we returned the truck). We really appreciate the help when returning the truck.

I had to originally cancel my rsvp. Then I got another one for 11:30 in manassas. I get there an then the other person who was supposed to return the haul did not. The I call the Chantilly location thankfully the gentlemen assisted me really well. I then after get a call from someone who was extremely rude telling me I need to cancel my other rsvp before creating another. I explained to her I understand but the Chantilly location told me we can handle the cancelation there. Whom ever she is she needs to be off the phone or restrained. Because she does not know the frustration people are going during a move and being pulled around to get a uhaul

While in the end I got a good van, first van had a front bumper literally and visibly falling off. Second van offered has smooth overinflated bald back tires that were an incredible safety hazard and would never pass any inspection. It was a very rainy day so that would have been dangerous if not deadly. Fortunately my husband noticed them. Uhaul does not inspect their vans for safety. I wanted to make all transactions via app, but could not because of the ban conditions. As a return I waited in line and it took an hour, making me late. At least the people who worked there were pleasant and helpful. Do a better job Uhaul.

I had the pleasure of renting a 9' Cargo van from this location. The agent Bernice was extremely helpful, knowledgeable, and friendly. She made the whole process from start to finish a simple and accommodating. Showed me how to use the UHual App check in and check out. I would highly recommend this location.

Every last person that has worked at this facility over the last two years has been absolutely astounding! Make no mistake, I mean every single employee whom I have had the pleasure to deal with here has superb product and policy knowledge, and are super friendly! The prices are good for the area. I only had one rent increase and it was not so high that it made us want to leave the facility, but a somewhat fair representation of inflation. Thanks to the whole team here, please make sure the corporation takes care of you guys!

It would’ve been nice to have the unit lit, but other than that had a great experience. Only negative was the way you handled my first month free. You went ahead and charge me in Advanced for the second month which I hadn’t budgeted for, but I was assured I wouldn’t be charged the second month. Then, at the beginning of the second month, I got charged anyway. The staff at the facility promptly credited me, but the only way they could do it was to close down my rental and start a new rental. You should really get that fixed. Cause I left a bad taste in my mouth as it caused me to have an overdraft charge on my bank account.

This storage site was excellent. Well maintained, comfortable, and lots of carts. The only downside was the cost and the rapid increase in the monthly rental rate which was exorbitant. We would have rented longer but raining the rate $80 after 1 month of occupancy was ridiculous so we moved out immediately.

Upon handling the closing of a unit from end of June, while trying to figure out if we were charged or not and if it was closed in their system because we were getting late fee notices, the woman who was supposed to close us out was the one that answered the phone. When I escalated the issue with her manager and I went in to describe the employee as an Asian female (which the employee did tell me she was Asian), the manager blew up at me and accused me of using gender and cultural identification in a derogatory manner. I explained that the person on the phone told me she was Asian and the manager continued to yell at me about being racist (considering my husband and my daughters are Asian, I don’t understand how I was being disrespectful, I was just trying to describe the person who made the mistake). I am still shaken by the accusations of being racist and using derogatory remarks by calling the employee an Asian female. I found the blow up from the manager to be highly disrespectful and shocking to say the least. Absolutely AWFUL customer service over the phone. I never had issues in-person. In fact, that same manager was super helpful with me and my husband the day we did the move out, offering advice on how much weight our truck is capable of hauling. I was absolutely appalled she said I used derogatory language using the words Asian female. In today’s world, THAT description is acceptable.

At check in I was given my storage unit # but there was another lock on it. Had to go back to office and they had to assign me another #. Also the code to get into the facility after hours did not work so you had to pull open a side door. Was worried that faculty and therefore my belongings were not safe. This is a busy location so wait times to see a representative was lengthy. Staff was friendly and easy to deal with.

My only concern is that I moved out in September and notified the office in person ant the lady assured me that the unit was done but the payment came out of my account and again in November. I went in person and took care with the manager and got a receipt this time. This is all taken care of but Luis assured me and it wasn’t done, I had to dispute with the bank. I have been a 3 year customer and overall no complaints otherwise.

I have the worse experience:moving from Massachusetts to Virginia at the end of June , I reserved 20 feet track & storage unit a mounth ahead,12 hours before my moving date, I received a call from U-Haul with bad news, sorry we’re only have 15 feet available so I end up leaving 3 bikes , sofa and more stuff behind , Two months afte I have my furniture in storage I find out that they have my name in 2 different units ,and my credit card auto pay In someone else unit , I will never recommend U-Haul to anyone, I will post my experience in all social media

Chantilly staff was most helpful getting my check-in for storage completed, while processing me in for a trailer hitch install on my vehicle, in addition to renting a van for one day locally...they were also extremely helpful when I locked myself out of the rental van; directing me to the Herndon facility where a spare key for the van was maintained -made a very stressful day a lot nicer :-)

Uhaul should of told us up front about when you close your unit you don't prorate the rent. We lost 3 weeks of payment. The lines at the counter was always long because there was only 1 person working the register and phone at the same time. Other than that it was great having the storage unit and not have to worry.

I moved out of units 2130 and 2149 on May 12. When the movers were packing me out I went to the office to inform the staff member of my move out. I was told to return later that day when the movers were done and someone would do a walk thru with me. I returned a few hours later and was greeted by a different staff member who did not do a walk thru and told me they would take care of closing out my contracts. Turns out 2130 was closed. 2149 remained open despite the fact I checked the following the day and was told both units were closed. I was charged $143 on May 13 and charged $143 on June 12th. I’ve been trying over a week now to get refunds and spoke to the General Manager, Richard who said he’d take care of it. He closed 2149 on or around June 14 but only processed a refund for the June charge. The May charge has still not been refunded. I’m very dissatisfied with this situation. Why the first person I spoke to (when I wanted to check out) told me a walk thru was necessary but the second person who was supposed to but did not tells me the staff at the Chantilly location do not follow their own procedures and the result is the situation I’m in. I was satisfied with UHaul until I tried to closed my accts.

We rented a "drive-up" unit because we have some large and heavy items to store and wanted to drop them out of the truck and directly into the storage unit. We arrived late in the evening only to find that your version of "drive-up is a loading dock. The unit you gave us was at the furthest point away from the loading dock which made it extremely difficult and time consuming to move our items from the truck to the unit. We also found out that the large sliding doors at the dock are locked at 7:00 P.M. which will make moving items after 7:00 P.M. very difficult. Luckily we ran into "Ryan" who stayed after his shift to allow us access to the sliding doors. Major kudo's to Ryan, he was very courteous and understands customer service. Otherwise, the unit was clean and ready to use,

The storage space was choosen for me as the best and most convenient. It was not convenient. Security and lighting were good. Staff were helpful. I would recommend with a be aware that they do not refund for early vacate.

The entire staff at this location is extremely friendly. Coworkers band together and are there to help you. An issue arose during and after the truck rental. The Manager handled the situation calmly and professionally and I was more than pleased. I will add that this store has always treated me well and would give my full endorsement to use the Chantilly location for their moving and storage needs Bill H..
