This location is severely understaffed, especially on Saturdays. I arrived prior to my reservation time and paperwork completed fairly quickly, pulled my truck to the trailer and waited. Then waited some more. The sole yard person was selling propane to at least 3 customers in line. Fortunately, the person at the counter was able to come out and get me hooked up (leaving 3-4 other customers to wait) , while she's completing my hook up. When returning the trailer the same day, checked in at 1:30 on my app. Sole person at the check in line completely ignored me. No directions, not even acknowledging my presence. Proceeded to the office, the counter person asked me to pull around back, said she'd follow me out to unhook. Unfortunately, she was not strong enough to lift the trailer off the hitch, even with my help, but I am a senior with some back disability. She said she would send the yard person out. I waited, then waited some more. Walked up to the office to find the yard person on the phone with Uhaul tech support for some reason (with no other customers around waiting) . 30 minutes later, he's still on the phone, and I'm still unable to get on with my day. I used some personal initiative, and got the trailer detached. I have done this rental annually for the last 3 years. This location has always been understaffed on Saturday mornings, often taking 35-40 minutes to get to the counter, I've learned to book my reservation an hour early, and arrive 30 minutes prior, to make my time requirements. It is unfathomable that this site is so severely understaffed, especially on Saturdays. Would recommend any other Uhaul facility before trying this one, unless you like hanging out at Uhaul for extended periods, then this is the place for you.

Another joke experience. Waited at the sign that said "stay in your vehicle for drop-off assistance" for 20 minutes. No one ever came to assist. Went into the office and desk person processed my return at the counter. Then she asked me if I knew where I should park it. What? Shouldn't a yard tech be helping me with that. At that point, a very disinterested yard tech came in and grunted when desk person asked him to help me park and disconnect the trailer. I waited another 5 minutes at my truck.....no yard tech. Saw in the back of the lot where the trailers were so I drove over and found a spot. At that point, the yard tech came over and removed the trailer from my truck. I said thanks.....and he just glared back at me.

There was a system shut down and the employees completely disappeared. I waited an hour and a half to be able to rent my truck and then was given a number and sent out in the parking lot to find it. The paperwork stated that the truck was full of gas, it was not. The fact that you are U-Haul and not budget rental and you don’t have a back up camera or automatic windows is actually insane. There was no ability to rent a dolly, according to the employees. Just all around the most unprofessional rental I’ve ever had, Trying to charge me $25 for a cleaning fee. Wack. Don’t see myself using U-Haul for a rental ever again.

We arrived to the location to pick up our rental. We decided to do everything through the U-Haul app and it was really slow. We went inside to rent an appliance and the line was out the door and only one person working. He kept telling everyone to use the app even though it was not working. When we went to pick up the keys to our rental, he said he was going to give us a different truck since the one we had was blocked by other rentals. When trying to take pictures of our rental, it would not let us because we still had the old truck rental number. I went to speak to him because I didn’t want to become liable for a truck which isn’t even on my app. He told me it was ok and that there was nothing he could do for me if the app was not showing the new number rental. He printed a receipt that stated our name and rental number of the new truck but it was still not showing on the app so I was not able to take pictures. When we returned the U-Haul truck we used the app again but it is too slow. It took us about 20 min because it would not load and had us waiting for submission. Overall had a bad experience this time around , especially with the app it needs to be faster for people to use. It should not take 10 min to load to the next step.

I'm not sure if it the calls were from the drop off location, or from the main U-Haul. My move was supposed to be a 1 day rental which ran long due to the amount of items I was attempting to move. I received a call on the morning that I was supposed to return the 20' truck I rented from a very rude gentlemen who wanted to know "where his truck was at". He mentioned that the rental was due as 7:00 am and it was now 8:30 am. I told him that I had run late, and that I would have the truck back as soon as possible. He asked how much longer I would have the truck, and I said that I was hoping to be done by 11:00 am. He said that there was another customer looking for the rental, and that was unacceptable. I told him I was working as fast as I could to unpack the truck and return it. He said that what I should have done was call the night before to let U-Haul know I was going to be late. I looked through the rental contract, and did not see a section in it indicating that I needed to do this. He then abruptly hung up the phone. I proceeded with unpacking the truck and received ANOTHER call from U-Haul around 11:00 am. The woman on the phone asked again how much longer I was going to have the truck out. Again, I told her that I was working as fast as I could to unload the truck and would have it back as soon as possible. She asked if I could get it returned by 4:00 pm, and I told her that I would make the 4:00 pm drop off time. I arrived at the drop off location a little after 1:30 pm. I was quite surprised to see quite a few trucks on the lot available for rental. I counted 5 20' trucks and at least 6 15' trucks that appeared to be ready to rent. The drop-off location was extremely slow in processing my return. Despite a sign at the equipment drop-off lane instructing me to wait for assistance, no one came out to help. I eventually had to go inside the facility to request assistance. The next time I need moving vehicles, I am going to check other companies to see what they have to offer.

Trailer I was assigned had the connector cord cut off. I hooked up and drove around to inspection just to be told that it couldn’t be rented. There were no more trailers in the size I rented. I was told I could get a larger trailer but I’d have to pay the higher price. I was stuck as I needed the trailer so I took it. Better service would have been to rent me the bigger size for the same price. I was told no when I asked for that.

Well, when I called to reserved I told them that I have a Chevy Tahoe and that I need a trailer. I was all the way to Moreno Valley. I needed to come to Hawthorne so I rent it in Gardena, but they gave me a tow trailer that was only for small cars my Tahoe didn't fit in it so I wasn't able to use it. Whoever made the reservation and asked me for the model and type of car. Should know that I will really like a call back about this service. I had to pay the U-Haul trailer plus the tow truck that I end up having to pay because the trailer work for nothing because it was not for the type of car

The truck was semi Ok. The truck has no gasoline to start. The staff at the location were no help and were not friendly at all. All the staff were rude and I had to twist their arm to help me. I’m not satisfied at all.

I have experienced the very best customer service with U-Haul at every stage. I had originally rented a Budget truck & tow dolly for an out of state move. Their equipment didn’t function as intended nearly thwarting my moving timeline. The staff at Nashville went above and beyond! The staff at Gardena were exceptionally helpful as well. Using U-Haul was like having a very competent team with me along the entire moving process. I didn’t feel that with Budget. It seemed like I was given equipment but safety checks like U-Haul does were non-existent. That and the three calls to get the credit card charge reversed, have reminded me to never look elsewhere for moving needs. U-Haul is definitely the one stop shop I’ll recommend.

The general manager Mr. Broussard was ver accommodating with a ground level unit that became available as I had expressed my need of a ground floor unit due to a current disability. He canceled the second floor unit which I had to climb stairs to get to (elevator needed at this facility). I really appreciate the extra mile the staff to to assist me in my storage needs. This was my first storage experience and I would definitely recommend this location to everyone in need of a unit.

Customer service at both the Vermont LA location and Gardena Location. The management at Gardena was bad! The cashier charged my card before telling me the total of my cost!! The staff whispered to the manager “Does she know the mileage came to $200?” The manager said to him, “she should.” Not once speaking to me to confirm they charged me $890! I’m so disgusted by the staff and manager at Gardena, I would never recommend anyone or return for service! I hope this email goes to the upper management; because you have very bad customer service, neglected to inform me of the total charges, and basically charged my card before I could confirm the card to use. I will be calling the corporate offices.

I had reserved a large storage unit a few hours earlier. When I got there there was only a small storage unit available and it was on the second floor. I had some furniture to store so I declined the unit as there is no elevator there!

Very poor customer service was trying to get a storage unit and both units was occupied and when staff was trying to contact the manager his phone e was going to voice-mail and never returned phone calls the two young men's that was there was so helpful the young lady that was there was not helpful at all I was there for three hours and still didn't get storage that is why my move in and out date is the same because both units was occupied with locks on them when they was showing available and was not so they don't know their inventory and it is a inconvenience to customers I would never recommend or use this location because of poor customer service

I was told the facility had an elevator and it didn’t. And the assigned space was in the attic. So we had to go rent a space at Public Storage, whose rates were a LOT less for a better space and they do have elevators, as well as flat bed carts and Dollie’s. I will NEVER rent a storage space from U-Haul again after this fiasco! By the way, the staff at the Gardena facility was snotty with me on the phone and when my son got there he realized this was the same facility that he had trouble with before and sent a complaint to corporate about years ago. Obviously nothing was done to correct the problem.

Though the site was clean, my unit looks like a work in progress. But I'm grateful for it & I haven't seen any creepy crawlers, so its all good. I've only had one lackluster experience, all the rest have been great (in person & over the phone).

The complaint is not with the facility that provided the Storage Unit... My complaint is with the U-HAUL scheduling & reservation system... It all was an "inconvenient mess"..! I had to call several times... The pick up facility for the truck rental was un-able to be contacted due to a disconnected phone number... I called the day before my pick up to affirm my reservation and re-assess my contractual agreement... I spoke to several agents in the "Transportation Center" several times the morning of the pick up and got another disconnected number... My CC was charged $30 more than what I was quoted over the phone by the reservation agent despite a very intentionally adamant conversation with the agent regarding that specific issue (i.e. Amount due at pick up). The person who did the contract at the facility for the pick up (a young lady) never asked for my signature and just did everything for my pick up of the truck on her phone... And, upon arrival to the storage facility the unit that I was quoted was not available when I got to the storage facility so I had to accept a different unit (a more expensive one). Throughout this entire experience I was making several phone calls to the "Transportation Center" and then the "Customer Service Center" and practically every time these calls were put on long "wait-time holds" and when finally connected to a live person the calls were disconnected..! This entire experience should be easily documented & confirmed as it is noted in all of these calls that you (i.e. U-HAUL) record these phone calls... I am truly displeased with this experience and I tried calling your "Customer Service" several times the following day to submit this grievance but just as during this experience, I was unable to speak with any of your agents... I am in a profession that is compelled to be diligent in customer service in order to perpetuate the further continuance of repeat & referral business so this was an appalling experience for me as this kind of "ball dropping" would be totally unacceptable..! I would appreciate it if someone would reach out to me in an effort to rectify this matter.

I call in to schedule a storage unit and had it reserved the person had it scheduled and took my credit card. She scheduled it for the first floor and a larger unit. When I got the the facility it was all different the lady at the storage said she did not see the reservation in the system and the lady was very rude. The storage facility does not have a elevator so I have to carry all my items up the stairs. What is up with this? I am happy I got the one month free but it really was a ordeal that I did not want to deal with. I would think twice about going to this storage facility again it was to much work .

The facility was well lit and I felt secure there, but the lock on our door was loose. The staff was less than helpful and we were happy to have another option for our storage needs, so that we didn't have to use that UHaul storage facility.

I reserved a storage locker, but they had already rented it to someone else. When I asked for an alternate either at this location or another in the area I was told there was nothing. This left me up sh*t creek with out a paddle because I had a full UHaul truck to unload and nowhere to unload it and the staff was incredibly unhelpful at trying to correct the problem of their making.

I had a reservation for a climate control storage unit of a specific size and bottom floor. When I arrived they did not have that unit and gave me one much smaller, not climate controlled and second floor. The second floor access is a staircase!!! What type of storage facility has stairs to haul all storage items up and down from…most ridiculous thing ever!! The lady charged me the same price of the unit I had originally reserved…terrible!!

The size of the unit turned out to be too small, a bigger unit was available however, the owner, Donnis, wasn't willing to swap out units. He wanted me to rent the other unit out as well. I don't need 2 units. He then proceeded to walk away and just left his staff member standing there not knowing what to do, so then he walks away. He was more concerned with counting his boxes and seeing how many pallets they had to restock. Just left us standing at the counter. The sad part about this is that my husband is disabled and was there with me. He uses a wheelchair and a cane to get around. He is unable to help me in moving. And financially we can't afford movers. So I was doing this alone. There was NO compassion from this person at ALL. I will NEVER rent a storage there again. I only had the unit for a day or two and left. Didn't even use it really. It also had a hole in the door. So people could see what your storing. I had to keep the Uhaul truck rental again and found a storage at different storage company. I will say his staff had more compassion and kindness then he did. They were awesome. But they could only do so much but say I'm sorry.

Needs lights in storage rooms

First, I wish the individual storage spaces be lighted. Storage spaces do not have lights inside and it is Very difficult to find things or move around inside the storage spaces. There should be an automatic lighting installed inside of each storage space that turns on and off by itself. Every time I, I visit my storage, I hated to be inside the dark space. The ceiling is also low, so I have to stoop around the whole time I'm in there. I am a woman of average height, by the way. Second, I wish the U-Haul employees are better trained. Many of them I have dealt with so far have Very incompetent work skills. On Sunday, 03/14/2021, a female agent who was helping me on the phone was very incompetent. And on Monday, 04/15/2021 a male agent at the Gardena, CA location office was also not trained properly. The female agent did not know how to properly cancel my contract with U-Haul. I had to call twice to make sure my cancellation was processed correctly. On the second phone call, an agent named Joseph verified that my cancellation did not take place with the previous female agent. Joseph helped me to complete the cancellation in the system. The first female agent was NOT professional: Not only she did not do the job correctly, her manner on the phone was very rude, telling me to take the speaker-phone mode off so that she can hear me. I was driving , so I had to use the speaker phone. Anyway, I pulled over and spoke with her without using the speaker phone. Also, she called me "Honey". Somehow her calling me honey did not feel appropriate to me. I wish she called me by my name, and not "Honey". She was also fumbling on the phone a lot while talking to me on the phone. At the end of a rather hasty "help" provided by her, i tried to ask her name. Well, She hung up right away! That's when I got suspicious wherher my request was performed correctly. I got this hunch that she might not have done the cancellation job correct. I immediately called back. Sure enough, the second agent named Joseph confirmed that my storage contract termination did not take effect at all. Nothing was done for it, he said. Joseph was very professional though. He apologized for the first female agent's mistake. What a waste of my time. Also when I try to return the key at the Gardena location, the agent made a mistake in the return-key process. I had to ask his coworker sitting next to him at the counter to double-check. Surely, the key was not returned in the system. If a coworker had to help out in order to make sure a simple key-return was done correctly in the system, then I am not sure whether U-Haul employees are trained properly. My experience with U-Haul with the phone agents and the local office agents have been very unsatisfactory. I would NOT hesitate to recommend some other storage businesses to others. I am sorry but, hope my feedback is helpful for other consumers/customers down the road with U-Haul. Thank you for your time! Sandra Kim
