They first did not give us a dolly. Secondly they gave us less fuel than what was on our contract. Upon returning they charged us double that we are currently disputing. Overall tge experience has been very bad.
BENJAMIN EI rented a track to move stuff from PG plaza Homedepot to my Address 3507 Oliver St, Hyattsville. Used the vehicle for two hours and returned after two hours. The total milage used was 4.5 but the amount taken from my bank was $91.00. I complained to the representative but she did not try to help me. She said I was charged about 40.00 dollars for the gas. This I think is a reap off. I am very disappointed with U-Haul for unfairly charging me. I advise you to make sure that some workers are not using returned vehicles during the night. I have been a customer for years but I never had such irresponsible service. Bye now and never come to U-Haul again and discourage friends no to rent from you guys because it is cheating!!

YAW TI was charged for a broken window even though I had purchased the safe move insurance. The U-Haul was vandalized the night before the move and unfortunately, I had to return it that way. I had called U-Haul the morning of to inform them. They assured me I wouldn’t be charged because I had the insurance. I turned in the vehicle and then I received a charge for the damage. I had to go back to the U-Haul place and inform them of the situation. When I got there, I explained it to the rep, and they said, even though you have the insurance, the customer is still responsible for the cost of the damage. Make it make sense. I then had to speak to the assistant manager to get it rectified. Terrible experience. They need to train their reps better. Someone obviously didn’t bother to read the contract that I had signed.
SONYA AI’ve used other facilities before and they were very expensive, not temperature controlled, and had issues with vermin. I never had those issues with the U-Haul Storage. It was always clean and I never once worried about mice or roaches. The only “issue” was that I needed to get lamps to look inside the unit. But other than that I thought it was a great storage space at a fair price.

Martha COverall ok experience...check engine light came on by end of trip but made it back for turn in no break down. Customer service rep on pickup was excellent young lady. Customer service rep ON RETURN young lady was just unbothered not professional. I wouldn't want to deal with her again. I had to come back the following day after truck turn in. Got a call from Jonathan who noticed my account hadn't been closed out. The rep on truck return should've been more alert and told me about my account needing close out while I was there in the office.

ABDUL Kone staff member was especially. older male said he had "been working here for 15 years" and said my car may have not been able to tow because it "did not have an engine". i asked him what rating my car could tow but he could not say. Manager was helpful and able to get me the dolly using reason and logic, unlike older male. equipment was wet and soaking. younger male was very helpful in getting the dolly hitched up to car.

NANCY BThe main problem was related to the system/software for the check-in. The condition was fine for the van but the system wouldn't allow "continue" unless I took a photo. -- The mileage was actually 0.1 miles more than stated. I needed to take a photo but couldn't figure out how to do that. It didn't seem like any way to take the photo. -- The ride of the van was really bumpy. ------- Something not to change - the friendliness and respect of your employees. The check in person was patient, calm, and clear. The check out person was friendly and smiled. I really appreciate the ease that comes with people being kind.

I have a bad back and I could have operated the equipment to move the trailer, it didn’t require a “good” back to operate and they could have walked me over to the other person to make sure we connected, as other staff had done when they couldn’t provide the assistance I needed.

People helping out at the desk were great, and a guy that serviced the vehicles even came and helped me move two beds and two TV’s after a family member wasn’t able to come help me. Wish I could remember names better, but this location is BY FAR the best I’ve ever had experience with 👍

I had to wipe everything down with disinfectant wipes before removing - Also the unit had a smell of mice and mustiness- make sure clothes in well sealed bags to not pick up odors. I’m being honest here but also want to say the staff was helpful and location convenient and seemed safe. Other clients I met were also decent people. Was expensive for what it offered.

I had just driven 8.5 hrs from the Carolinas to move in with a JH and AV worth of things after packing my whole house and leaving at midnight. He was not very friendly and did not seem to want to be there. He was very combative with me when asking for alternate contact information and seemed to not want to explain exactly what or why it was needed. He also told me he was doing me a “favor” by providing me with my free one month storage for my contracts which were separate. As a former recent Uhaul employee I knew I had the right to my units for the month. He also tried to give me a smaller unit than requested specifically when I asked for what I needed and asked that it was on the same floor which was already shown to be available. This type of behavior was not customer centered and did not provide me with a good check in experience.

Sheila S | Overall ExperienceMy storage facility leak in this from the ceiling and it was infested with rats or mice or whatever they were who ate into one of my furniture pieces, a large and comfortable chair that had to be discarded outside of that the staff was fine but my storage facility was in adequate. I do not have any dispute with the staff or U-Haul. I agreed to settle my account and that’s the end of it. The staff was cooperative and didn’t work with me to resolve my issue. I left the chair in the storage room so that they can see where the rat have a hole all the way through animals living inside the chair.

When I came to pick the truck up, there was no dolly in the back. When I asked the U-Haul employee where my dolly was, he stated they didn't have anymore available. The issue is I reserved the rental weeks ago, I needed that type of dolly for heavy furniture moving. Again, no heads up or email prior to inform me they didn't have what I paid for. He refunded me for the dolly, but I still had to figure out how move/carry a very heavy piece of office furniture. So the customer service and consideration at that location was non existent. Hence the low rating of my experience.

It is not safe trying to move items, esp heavy or bulky ones to the second level. Storage facilities without ramps / elevators are the only ones I would consider for future storage needs.

Daniel V | Overall ExperienceSo first off, the storage facility was not the size advertised. The advertised size was 10x13x7. It was not 7 feet in height, it was more like 6 feet. This factored into my ability to store things and I wasn't able to store everything I had. This needs to be corrected on the website and reflected accurately otherwise I will report this facility and U-Haul to the BBB. Secondly, when I went to pick up my goods from the storage facility I found the process somewhat unwieldly. First, trying to park my 20 foot u-haul trailer in an area that wasn't blocking anyone and wasn't too far from the door was difficult as the pick up area was being used for truck storage and parking. Why were there so many trucks blocking the pick up entrance? People should be easily able to park and use that area to pick up their stuff. Also, the fact that the exit was routinely blocked by people returning trucks was annoying. Also, why were your employees using parking spaces for customers to access and pick up their goods from the storage facility. They shouldn't use these spots. Employees should park elsewhere. Overall, I would not recommend this facility to anyone looking to store their goods or rent trucks.

When I was shown the unit I reserved online, I mentioned to the representative showing the unit that it was not 7 feet high. The representative asked "Did you measure it?" That was a rude and condescending statement since he knew full well I had not pulled out a tape measure in the 30 seconds it took to walk into the unit and see how low the ceiling was. I'm not even 5 feet 5 inches tall and the ceiling was just above my head. I did not need a measuring tape to know that the unit was NOT 7 feet high, as listed. I again protested that the unit was shorter than listed. He said I would have to talk to the manager if I had a problem. Instead, I found a storage unit with another company that was the size listed and cheaper than the units offered by UHaul. I was very disappointed with the misinformation and the poor customer service. You can do and have done better.

The ceiling of my unit was all over my furniture and got all of my things super dirty and dusty. Insulation chips and debris from the ceiling were everywhere.

There was no record of the reservation when we got there (with movers waiting on us), but luckily they had a unit available of the same size. It still took us close to an hour from when we first arrived to when we could begin unloading the truck since we had to fill out a new contract, which messed up due to the credit card reader and we had to fill out all the information twice. There were lots of people waiting in line and many complaints that we heard from other customers about their storage units or truck rentals (we also had a terrible truck rental experience with uhaul - they kept changing and cancelling our truck in the few days prior to the move). Overall, I would never use uhaul again for truck rentals or storage unit. However, the person who checked us out for the storage unit was kind, so I don’t blame him.

I called several times to get information about where truck was at and everything. They were was supposed to call me back several times and never did. Then take truck back to there facility somewhere in Hyattsville Maryland with all of granddaughter belongings and expect us to go get it. Without them even calling and letting us know they were getting it when it was close to home in the first place. I was disappointed however, that it was not explained to me in advance that in order to get one month free or discounted on my storage unit that a truck would have to be reserved and brought to the Hyattsville location from another U-Haul location. That was not disclosed early on. Therefore, I reserved a truck online from the Hyattsville location planning to drop it off at the same location. Then the same day I came to sign my contract, I was told the truck would've had to come from another location and be dropped off to receive the promotion. Additionally, when I was first given the U-Haul storage access card, I was not shown how to use it and I was not told that I needed a specific lock for the storage unit. While the cashiers/customer representatives were nice, some key information was omitted and I had to keep going back to get the right information or for someone to show me how to do something.

I was told that due to COVID-19 U-Haul was given all customers one month free storage, however when I got to the store on Chillum Rd that was not the case. The salesperson was kind and gave it to me anyway but said that the individuals from the call center work at different locations and that each store runs their own specials. I called the call center a second time about 24-hour storage and I was told that no U-Haul locations offer 24-hour service, but I was told differently at the location where I purchased. Of course the salesperson at the store was right about U-Haul offering 24-hour storage access. The individuals at the call center are very misinformed and should know what’s offered at ever location or should connect you to the store with the correct information.
