Slow service - 2 agents on the phone - seemed personal phone calls while we waited and waited. Missed part of our order despite reminding the agent multiple times of our Furniture dollies. In the end we just had them remove it from our order.

I was unable to unload my items when I arrived back at the Western Ave storage location due to being blocked by three vehicles in the clean out area, which is already a inconvenience to get in and out of. I am grateful for Dennis whom I spoke with the next day. I wasn’t charged, but I lost the help I had from the day before in which I had to move a truck full of item by myself. I still had to pay these guys for an unfinished job from the day before.
CARLA BAfter 24 years of renting moving trucks — always with Budget — we didn’t expect to be surprised. But this U-Haul location at 1200 Western Ave has truly changed our standard. When we moved to Pittsburgh four years ago, we hesitated to switch from our usual provider. We walked into this location unsure of what to expect. From the moment we arrived, the staff treated us with genuine kindness and professionalism. They didn’t just process our rental, they welcomed us, asked questions, and seemed to truly care about making sure our move would go smoothly. It was an unexpected and refreshing experience. Returning the vehicle was just as smooth. The staff remained helpful, informed, and warm. We said to each other that day, “This was actually a great experience.” Since then, we haven’t even looked elsewhere. Today, we returned another rental, and once again, the service was outstanding. The woman and gentleman who helped us at around 2:00 PM on May 18, 2025, were patient, understanding, and clearly knowledgeable. We felt respected and supported — something that’s unfortunately rare in customer service these days. The vehicle was clean and reliable, but the people made all the difference. We cannot recommend this location enough. Thank you for reminding us that moving can still come with a human touch. Your team has our full trust, and we’re grateful every time.

My only complaint is that I booked my reservation two months before my moving day. I reserved 24 furniture pads and two dollies, and day of there were no furniture pads and only one dollie. Thankfully they were quick to amend the charges but that was still a point of frustration for myself and the movers.

They nailed it on the head for superb customer service and helping me out in a difficult situation when I was under a time crunch. Whomever the Regional Manager is for the Pittsburgh area; please contact me! We're rarely contacted for positive feedback- only negatives. I love giving kudos to those deserving. This is a deserving scenario. I won't bore everyone with details but to give the cliff notes version...I had 36 hours to move from Pittsburgh to the West Coast. I ran out of time filling my storage unit and accidentally set off the alarm to the entire facility and had to leave. I had one piece of furniture left to put in my unit...my grandfather clock. without knowing what to do and leaving on a plane across the country in 3 hours I left the clock wrapped up in the Uhaul. I gave my 80 year old mother all my information and said "Mom, I need you to call them the minute they open and keep calling until they answer! That's my clock on that truck but I can't get it thru the door and I'm taking off and won't have cell service in the air. I need someone to tell them what's going on. I won't be able to contact them for another 5 hours." Here's the accolades portion~ To the wonderful, empathetic, excellent listener, female Associate that took the initial phone call from my mother while I was in the air...WELL DONE 5 STARS FOR YOU!!!! you knew it was above your head but listened to my mother explain the situation and found the answer/person to her problem. WELL DONE! Which leads me to Chris... Chris (I don't know your last name but know you're the GM)~ I am jealous of the team you have created! That IS Leadership! LEADERSHIP is what you created that helped me out! I wish I had the opportunity to meet you in person. Everything is always clean, they love maintaining the lil extras like the soda machine and the giveaway patch, and even the temperature is always within range (which, I have seen a few facilities that weren't). It even smells nice. How?? Also, I don't know who all can see this review, but the ones on Google that complain about the setup and getting parked in and blocked sometimes? If you have eyeballs in your sockets you can see when you pull in that it's tight. If it's the end of the night, you know people are returning trucks, and you park where those trucks go, that is a you problem, not a Uhaul one.

SHANIKA DI reserved my truck well in advance. The day before my scheduled reservation, I was notified that my pick-up was moved to another location that is not convenient. Ok, fine. When I arrived at this location, it was not open yet so I went into the app to check out my vehicle. This is when I learned that the employees forgot to put the key into the off-hours dropbox so I could not get the vehicle I reserved. Online support was helpful, but they told me I could only get a smaller vehicle at this location and I had taken an Uber here. Luckily, an employee arrived a few minutes later and helped me get the vehicle I reserved.

LORANN PHave typically had good experiences with this location, this last time was a little off. Mileage was off on the rental, desk clerk said they cannot adjust it, told me I can only fix with through the app, but the app would not let me past picture documentation of the vehicle, which I uploaded multiple pictures multiple times. Messed around with the app for over 20 minutes before giving up. Also, this equipment was a bit dirty on the inside, said it required an oil change, and the key fob was very intermittently working.
JAMES JThe best part of my experience was the clerk, Chris, who was there at 10am on Saturday, when I made the rental. He was friendly, professional, clear with details, and made the experience an overall joy! From a management prospective, he is the type of an employee a company cognizant of customer experience should be on a short list for advancement within the organization. The gentleman whom I returned the vehicle to was also of solid character. I just feel like it’s important for me to shine a light on Chris, because he harkens back to days when pride in your job meant something more.

I put $20 in gas to bring the truck back up to 1/4 of a tank & was still charged $50 in gas fees.

MIRANDA SI have been with the U-Haul on Western Avenue of Northside for a little while. Every time I go in that crew that I see all is awesome. Everybody’s awesome there because anytime I need some question they have the answers they have the problem solved.
RICKEY MMake sure that and appliance dolly is available I had three appliances to move and I had to go to a different location to get a dolly that's not cool my movers were not happy the people were working with me that they had to wait until I went over to Westview to get a dolly. . The employees were awesome as usual but the fact that dolly was not available took out a lot of time from my movers. One of whom could have been at home sleeping that extra amount of time and I had to go over there to pick up that dolly.
JUNE KI rented a cargo van for the first time, and Blake and Nelson provided excellent customer service. Blake explained the process very well and improved our experience. I would use this location again

CARLEY HThe radio in my truck was broken and stuck at maximum volume. When I pushed the button to turn it on, it blew out my ears and nearly gave me a heart attack. The steering on the truck was about as solid as Jello on a waterbed. Other than that, it was fine, it was a Uhaul.

MATTHEW SAll of the dollys were missing. I requested an appliance dolly, and there were none at the location. The free dolly included in the truck was missing, and the furniture dolly was also missing, cutting the efficiency of my move in half. I understand that theft is real but that’s not my problem when it comes to expecting a dolly or a truck at the time I was promised.

CARLA BI thought they should’ve cleaned the snow off the truck had the truck pulled and ready to go, which was not done. I had to clean off the snow from the truck and had to look for the truck in the location.

RONALD SHi. I was overcharged. My total bill was $73.00 when it should only be $46.00 ** Please refund my card!. It appears I was charged for 2 periods when I only rented the truck for 2 days. My card was charged twice. ($54.00) & ($18.00). That should not be. I only had the truck for 1 day. Actually I returned the truck less than 24hr. I picked it up at 5:40 -12/14/24 and returned it 3:59 -12/15/24. The gas was replaced pass the amount it was given and the truck was returned the same was it was given. I droved exactly 15 miles which comes to $19.35 for milage plus ))$19.95 per day**** Should be $40 + tax. I just rented from the Mcknight Road location a week prior and drove close the same amount of milage and my bill was only $46.00, Why did you charge for 2 days? That is false advertisement because I didn't have the vehicle for 2 days.. Not far placing extra charges on my card. It appears to be this location only!. **Please refund my card the difference** Thank you!

I requested another one and he gave me ANOTHER unit with another Big pole in it. I called twice again and no answer. I had to go down to the desk to request another unit that was ok. This was VERY frustrating as my movers were late for their next appointment and I had to pay more money due to the inconvenience of your staff.

KEVIN M | Overall ExperienceTo anyone reading this and intending to get a storage unit: Beware U-Haul and particularly the location in North Side in Pittsburgh, PA. I will never recommend U-Haul to anyone after the service I had. The lack of leadership at the North Shore location. And accountability in the team miscommunication with my situation. To begin: If you want to be continuously hassled for billing payment issues, be given information from one employee to have another one, a manager, argue with you on said information, and to be humiliated and called “disgruntled”-this is the right place. Please note this location is very small and the hours are limited, and at points unaccessible depending on the return of U-Haul vehicles blocking passage to the the storage unit. Second, Customer service is horrendous. I’m not going to say the entire team was bad, there are some newer staff members who seem willing to do their job. I had some issues with my unit that I won’t discuss in this post for I want this to be a warning to anyone considering going here to do business. I will say I never in my life dealt with someone yelling at me on the phone “your bill is late” while I tried multiple times to explain the situation on the phone. The Collection Manager really needs to learn how to properly do their job-asset the situation before demanding payment and the way they handle the situation was rude and unacceptable. The worst thing about this was the general manager. First, he referred to me as disgruntled. I was frustrated, particularly because I had gone a month after getting the billing situated for the unit, with the intention of moving after receiving a phone call from the general manager (an employee on the phone stated the general manager was the only one able to cut the lock off my unit and allow me access). A month passed and after receiving multiple letters and no phone calls returned, I decided to head directly to fix the issue. Even after the payment was resolved ( which I believe I shouldn’t had to pay due to the poor communication of staff and the fact the manager never reached back out after an employee said I had to wait for him to return and call me) I asked to speak to the general manager just to clear things up and he refused then “disappeared”. I could have called down there sooner but if I’m told the highest form of management was needed to fix my issue, that they would in fact due the right thing and call and clarity. Instead, after getting my bill up to date, no one calls now I am left to pay a month of rent that I didn’t even want to pay, for when I called to get billing corrected, I was under the impression that the lock, once the fee was paid, would be removed and I could move my belongings. This is unacceptable way to treat a customer, doesn’t matter the situation. To the General Manager at U-Haul in North Side Pittsburgh: if you would of taken the time to have a conversation with me, after calling me disgruntled, and not taking into consideration that your employees miscommunicated information that made the situation frustrating, I ensure you I wouldn’t of left this review. Do better U-Haul.

When he started backing up, he was about to hit a white van, so myself and another guy yelled so he wouldn't hit the van. He got out and said, " you know I have mirrors on this thing, I can see. Very rude. Then when trying to figure out a size space to rent, he got me a tape measure and said figure out a size. Poor service from the GM but Sean was very helpful in getting me a space and showing me the ropes. The GM's service is the reason for the Average rating.

I came at 5 pm and could not get my belonging out. This is problematic when you work til 4 each day. Other than that it was a good experience. I did have an issue with the truck rental as well but I don’t think it was their fault I think it was more of an app issue and they fixed it as fast as they could.

They keep WAY too many trucks and trailers on the property - Fender benders are bound to happpen. Also --- The Uhaul storage contracts work differently that other storage facilities that I have used previously. They refuse to prorate and give a portion of the rent back for unused days. For instance if your contract runs the 4th to the 4th of each month and you move out on the 10th. The full monthly amount paid on the 4th is kept by Uhaul even though only 6 days of rental was actually used. This does not seem reasonable to me. There are lots of better, cheaper options with better customer service out there.

The evening time, the young man working was extremely helped and friendly with showing me the unit and how to navigate it. And I had some small hiccups with the return and their team was flexible and I really appreciated that. Some of my items were stolen. (Jalen) which is one of the associates told me that they cannot search the camera unless they have a warrant for it. Please be advised that Jalen was one that was most helpful. In fact the young lady jaylen apologize for everything include her managers behavior. All I wanted to do was move my things out the storage stress-free as much as possible. The manager wouldn't help. I'm going to need some help because some things which were in my storage were stolen. NUNURAI M | Overall ExperienceI reserved a unit near me. When I went to pick up the cargo van from that location they said they didn't have any 15' units and hadn't had any in months. WHAT!?! Why would you allow me to reserve one that didn't exist?!?! Thankfully, the next closest location had 1. But we had to hurry to get there in time to get it. It was well over twice as far away. Not good for mileage costs (and fuel). It also cost us precious time. When we got home, friends were waiting to help us load. My husband and I went to unload. We went back and forth with the carts, and we loaded them up and started to go back in, but the doors were locked (10:00 snuck up on us)! With all of the automation, why is there not a "we will be closing in 15 minutes"announcement?!? So we had to put all that stuff back in the van! The next morning, hubs had to work, a girlfriend of mine came and we got the van unpacked. I have a torn rotator cuff ... 😫 and had to do more lifting than necessary because the doors locked on us. I will never recommend anyone use uhaul storage. If they must, I will tell them not to reserve it online.

Katherine M | Online Move InAfter I was falsely reserved a unit at a different facility online, I was told this facility was the only one available after I showed up to the originally reserved unit with a full truckload to store… This unit is a good distance away from my intended unit, making it inconvenient to use as needed and desired. Plus, I still had to pay for the extra miles that were put on the uhaul truck rental… which, looked, smelled, and felt like it was not cleaned or sanitized for a couple of years (should not be the case during a pandemic…). This all happened after I was sent to the wrong facility to pick up supplies. Luckily that location had what I requested, but I purchased and opened a lock that was not needed, because the unit I was eventually sent to had free locks… Overall, I will try my best to not use or recommend uhaul moving forward.

Luckily an off-duty worker was walking by and saw my dilemma and helped me out. He opened the building and moved one of the vehicles so I could leave. The facility and employees are great. The parking lot and vehicle access is not great.

We returned with a large load of heavy furniture only to be blocked from entering into the lot by a large U-Haul truck some idiot parked blocking the entrance. There was a woman and her family blocked in the other side and couldn’t get out. My husband and I had to unload the furniture and squeeze past the truck to walk or heavy belongings very far to get to the entrance of the storage units. Unbelievable! We were on time restraints and this really messed us up along with making us extremely overly exhausted. We actually damaged some of our furniture just from not being able to physically carry the stuff properly that far anymore. Highly disappointed! They need a better system.

When I got to the facility the agent started to enter all of my information all over even though I told him several times that I had done this online. He asked for payment and then realized that I had paid online. I was never shown the entrance to the storage or anything else about the storage. I was also confused about the free month storage and/or the free lock. I ended up with the free month but had to purchase a lock.
