Dear U-Haul Customer Service, I am writing to express my dissatisfaction with a recent experience regarding my U-Haul reservation. I had reserved a U-Haul truck one week in advance at a location close to my apartment in preparation for my moving day. However, just one hour before my scheduled pickup time, I received a call informing me that the vehicle was no longer available at that location. I was offered an alternative location, which was much farther from my home. Given the last-minute notice and the urgency of my move, I had no option but to accept the new location. I clearly communicated my concern about the additional distance and its impact on mileage costs. I was assured that the price would remain the same despite the change. Unfortunately, I later discovered that I was charged based on the increased mileage, which was only necessary because of U-Haul’s failure to honor the original reservation. This unexpected change not only caused stress and disruption during an already difficult moving process but also resulted in unfair additional charges. I respectfully request that this be corrected and that I receive a refund for the extra mileage charges incurred due to U-Haul’s scheduling issue. I hope U-Haul takes responsibility for this inconvenience and ensures better customer service in the future.
ASANA HI came to this location the first time. It was at 9am on Sunday. They opened on time. The lady (sorry, I forgot to ask her name) worked at the desk was nice, patiently explained things for me, helped me to remove the truck blocking my way. She was busy. Thanks for good service. (Btw, that truck shows right rear tire needs add air) 😃 I want to give 5 star for this time.

Nicholas CMy first day getting my storage there was no green tag on the unit I booked for. I went through customer service twice just to get moved to a smaller unit than I requested. Then got a RUDE call from Jasmine claiming that there was a green tag on the correct unit and accused me of going to a bigger unit when that wasn’t the case. I went at night but we tried multiple times to get into the correct unit there was a lock on it there was no green tag I wanted the unit I booked badly as the unit I ended up with was way too small for my belongings. The unit I wanted was the correct amount of space. Overall the lot was not well lit I had to use my phone flashlight at night and didn’t appreciate Jasmine calling me very aggressively to save her own butt from getting in trouble like as if someone didn’t come up with the idea to do their JOB the next morning and take the lock off after seeing that I was having issues the night before to make it seem like the green tag was there the whole time. Then once Jasmine realized I actually moved to a smaller unit she was then nice because she knew her point wasn’t validated. Not once did she apologize or hold accountability about her lot but i’m sure if the tapes were replayed you would see someone going out there getting the unit I was supposed to be in situated as they should’ve did that when I wanted to move in. I was very glad to finally move out of this unit and will NEVER come back to this specific location let alone U-Haul storages at all.

When I came back I didn’t get my free upgrade and the she said I already took my truck. Thank God for the lady at the desk who remembered me and helped me get my truck! My movers canceled on me I had to hire new movers now I’m praying I get my money back!!
Shauna BI reserved a utility dolly and there wasn’t one available when I arrived to pick up my truck. The company policy is that there is no guarantee for availability. I think that this should be changed because I was expecting a dolly for my move and this was an inconvenience. On another note. The customer service was excellent. The two ladies that were working in the office were amazing. I’ll go back to that location from here on out just so I can work with them. They provide a friendly atmosphere and great customer service.

Telling me she was was allergic to all Victoria secrets scents. Then proceeds to make allergy noises as if she was trying to scratch her throat. Very unprofessional will never return.

CHRISTOPHER KThe staff were not very welcoming, it felt like I was bother them by being there. The screen showed I was being charged 290 dollars, when I asked why it was so much more than I was quoted I was told "It isn't 290 just pay" but was given now "real' price. It felt one of those Nigerian prince scams. The trucks were parked so close together their mirrors were literally touching, there was no way to get the pictures needed to verify the truck conditions. The truck was fine otherwise.

Donnell DOur first time experience using U-haul was okay as there were a few hiccups just to pick up the truck. For starters, I reserved certain equipment well in advance only to be missing most of it. The keys were also very difficult to retrieve from the box due to the nature of the locks, and then when we finally received the keys, the truck wouldn’t start. An employee eventually came out to help us after not being able to get a hold of anyone on the phone at the location. However, he gave us a new truck and the rest of our equipment. Overall, I would use U-haul at this location again now that I know what to expect with mobile pickup, but hopefully our reservation is more complete next time.

I did have to take my driver's license photo about six times, and it was annoying that there was no feedback on why not kept getting rejected until I reached out to the agent via the app chat.

THOMAS TTrucks are cleaned, but insides not wiped down. Truck provided did not drive over 25 miles an hour. Office was neat, but extremely cold for the wait time. The office is extremely busy, so don’t wait last minute or the line will be out the door.
ERICKA ORaising gas mileage pricing on weekends is extreme. Payed $150 after gas for a 4 hour trip based solely on going over 100 miles. Which is a bit much in my opinion when I have to put gas back in the van. Staff was amazing though.

And today (4/1/24) I was yelled at by a U-Haul employee, for parking where I was supposed to park. Context, the entrance to the facility is tight, so I was waiting for a vehicle ahead of me to into their code in drive into the facility. After this vehicle went through, I parked my car in front of the gate and did not follow the car in front of me through the gate, exactly as the signs instruct. As I was getting out of my vehicle to enter the code, a you whole employee honked at me several times, I did not understand the issue, so I continue to enter my code and enter the facility. After the code was accepted and the gate was opening, the employee drove between me and my car to berate me for a parking where I did. I stated that I was parking to enter my code, and again I was told not to stop there. Then the employee ask me if I was going into the facility, I said yes and they said okay and drove into the facility. I followed all the instructions given, but even if I hadn't, the way this employee conducted themselves was inappropriate. This was a really bad experience, and I hope I don't have to see or interact with this employee again.

Russell B | Overall ExperienceLabeling on the facility was very poor, and indicated that we needed to enter the facility to get a gate remote in order to leave. In actuality, the gate exit was weight-driven, so when we walked through the gate to see if the office was open, we became trapped outside in the cold. The office on-site was closed, and we spent 20 minutes on hold with the facility, followed by another 10 minutes on hold calling again. When we were connected, the service folks acted like this was a stupid mistake, and said they would come let us out in 10-15 minutes. 25 minutes later, another storage unit owner arrived and let us out, at which point we were able to move in properly. Facility could benefit from updated instructions and warning signs.

The first time we opened the door to our storage unit after everything was moved in there were was a cockroach right there and then about 100 small bugs scattered. It was as if the cockroach gave birth right then and there. I set roach traps and also fumigated before finally moving our belongings to a different UHaul. I've used storage for years in different States and this was horrible. I did not take pictures but anyone who goes to the storage unit will se at least 3 dead cockroaches in my 5x10x10 unit. We found two dead cockroaches in our belongings. As we unpack a couple of things will be sure to take pictures. Horrible experience.
Emily C | Overall ExperienceRemote storage site in Pleasant Valley Road is a very inadequate. Security gate left open for weeks because it was broken. Had an ant infestation in my unit that I had to exterminate in my own. Horrible facility layout - very difficult to access with large U-Haul Truck or any normal vehicle + trailer set-up. Almost no security. This site suits people coming an going in a car or pick-up truck storing low value items.

I called U-Haul while driving and for over 1.5 hrs was bounced around to reps who could not help give me any details. After making it to the other office, I waited 20+ mins to be helped. The service rep was helpful but he was unable to locate my reservation and would not take resv#. Had to start over. After finishing the process I went to the storage unit , row D and the 26ft truck can't get down the aisle. I tried for 2 hours the next morning to get someone on the line with no help. Finally rented with another company even though I still have the one I setup and need to get cancelled, can't get my month free even though the are associated with U-Haul because I could not change the location. This process was exhausting and stressful. No other moves or storage rental has been this jacked up. I still have not oped the unit because I could not get the truck to it. Worst experience ever

Alvin J | Overall ExperienceI had 2 units at this location (110 and 186). The first unit was broken into and I was never notified, even after the management placed their own lock on the unit. It was only when I went to access the unit and saw the lock had been changed was I told about the break in by another renter to which I then called the store in Durham to report and ask how to get into my unit. Two days after this my second unit was broken into and burglarized with losses over $700. I immediately contacted the general manager by phone and was given the claim contact at RepWest. From speaking to both Derrick the GM, and other employees and renters this property has been under attack from thieves for some time and Uhaul has yet to improve lighting, security or cameras which is ABSOLUTE NEGLIGENCE! In addition, they are not notifying renters of break ins to their units as soon as they become aware. I cannot believe that this is the business model that UHAUL has sunk to. Derrick and Rachel at the main Durham store that manage this property have been kind and responsive, and I feel sorry that they have to deal with this at work EVERY WEEK! You really need to take care of your customers better. Simple fix: add lighting, add more security cameras, do a daily sweep of property in the morning to check for break ins and communicate immediately to your customers! I will not recommend this location to anyone and I am considering contacting media to inform the public since no one wants to tell the current renters they are at risk. I moved everything out and will not be back!

When I called the main store in Durham on Hwy 70 Matthew told me I should have checked for the lock before receiving a delivery, blaming me for your error. He told me to drive to the office to pick up a lock. I had to leave my unit unlocked, drive 15min to pickup a new lock. Rachel greeted me with a smile and was happy to help me get a lock. She apologized for the missing lock and Matthews comments. She told me that she would have the General Manager Derrick call me, but I haven't heard from him yet. I was inconvenienced and frustrated by the experience, but Rachel was the one positive note.

When we first got there the girl gave me such a nasty attitude that I asked if I had done something to her because I didn't understand what was going on. Then I got the 24 hour service (paid extra) and was locked out that night. When I call the after hours number that woman said she hasn't worked there in years. I had checked on my stuff a couple weeks later and they had a sign that stated that due to robberies we were only allowed entrance during certain hours but I was never notified and still charged the extra money for the 24 hour service. Got locked out again trying to get my stuff out of storage and still they haven't updated the after hours phone number. This was horrible and I would never recommed them to anyone.

Therefore, I was unable to move my things in. I called customer care and spoke with 2 reps and they both told me there was nothing they could do. I stood in the rain for over an hour trying to figure out what to do at 8pm. I was highly upset and livid! i will NEVER use uhaul again in my life nor recommend you guys! The worst experience in my life. Because the staff wasn’t careful when assigning my unit what caused a huge inconvenience for me financially because I had to find another storage place fast and had to pay them $169 that I didn’t have a that moment. I’m highly upset and I want this issue resolved!

Arrived at 7:30pm after driving from Savannah .. hot and tired and ready to finish our journey. We first called the emergency # posted but it was to a former employee. However she gave us Graces # to call. We did and she did everything necessary to get us into the unit that night. We were incredibly grateful. The morning manager was very kind and helpful as well when we came back to do a few more things - unfortunately I didn’t get his name. Great staff at this location !!

I went to the office to talk to them about it, and there was only one person working the desk with at least three or four customers waiting. I did not have time to wait, so I left, and had to leave the unit unlocked overnight until I could get my own lock. This office is severely understaffed and the free lock was not provided.

We did not have the need to go there during the year so our experience with staff and the other aspects asked in the survey above were very limited. What I can say is that it was very convenient to our home and it was very convenient that they have trucks to rent there for when you need to move belongings in or out.

I will be recommending this storage & U-Haul facility to my friends and colleagues. I would like to also add that the staff assisted me without any complaints even though the golf cart was broken and they had to walk and service EVERYONE by foot. I am a manager for a Fortune 500 company and I think it is a shame this company has yet to fix the broken golf cart or provide a new one for their staff. I will be investigating who owns this particular location so that I can let them know my thoughts as well. It's IMPORTANT to value and treat your employees well, especially when they are providing excellence and representing the company to and with the highest of standards. It seemed like there were a construction right above my unit. I had to throw away my couch, chair, wash three times my clothes and super clean the rest of my other furniture. Also, the stuff weren’t friendly and neither helpful. Bad experience in this facility.

Secondly I keep getting these emails saying I owe money when I was supposed to get a free month of storage with a truck rental. My things were only in there two weeks, I rented truck both times and they still send me an invoice 30 days later saying I owe a late fee. This place is terrible no one seems to be running the show properly. I will never use this place again and can someone please look into my account to make sure they aren’t reporting me to a credit agency for owing money. I don’t owe any money
