Once we got serviceâ€¦ the counter person was amazing-she was working hard and trying running to computers at onceâ€¦ problem is I stood in line over 30 mins with no one behind the counter. One employee we (as in the 7 others in line) watched her come in walk past us not say a word and go on camera and put her feet on a desk. The young lady that finally came in to help said so sorry for the delay I was doing propane and no one else knows how to do anything. Several people left the line and went elsewhere. They have the trucks the space and etc but the system to care for the people paying for it is slow and sad.Christopher P.

Understaffed at check-in. Only two people there at opening, one was brand new and the other got frazzled and had to take a few minutes in the back after dealing with a mildly complicated customer. Return process the next day was terrible. There were 4 trucks queued up to where you could not even pull the truck in off the street and I was there :10 before opening so the trucks in front were from the day before.Jeff W.

Waited for an hour to get to the checkout register. Two employees. One outside that couldn't do much to help move the line along. The guys at the checkout register was doing the best he could but with people not having their DL picture uploaded it made for a long wait. He then was the only one that could hook up trailers so he would have to leave the register to then go hook up trailers. I am sure they are short staffed like everybody else in this town, but with it being a corporate, high volume center, they should have at least another person processing the line.Garrett S.

I called U-Haul to secure storage. They told me the location I wanted was not available but the 4788 Dorchester facility had a unit available and booked it for me. When I showed up the next day it took over an hour to get the unit ONCE it was my turn in line. Finally received unit, went to unit and took another half hour for them to figure out that the unit was not available and I would have to go to another place. Wasted well over two hours on a day when I was already running a very tight schedule. The attitude of the gentleman helping me with General Manager on his shirt was one of frustration and total lack of compassion. He didn't know how to work the system and kept blaming me for not telling him that I was looking for the first month free storage. I figured since I had already made the reservation and had my contract with me which was up on the counter the whole time, he would recognize this. Had he asked I certainly would have told him. Also once he verified that there were locks on the locker I was supposed to have he went back to computer, spent a few minutes punching some keys and said, "Yep, I was right. I didn't think we had any storage. That's why I asked if you had a reservation" When he asked if I had a reservation, he didn't know I had one for storage. He asked in general. So if he knew way back then he didn't have storage why didn't he tell me then instead of wasting over an hour of my time. And why didn't he believe me when I said there were locks on the storage. The man working was a nightmare. It was really busy and they were short staffed but either way, he was turning people down and denying them their rentals very very flippantly. Another staff person had to step in to de escalate a customer because they'd been told by the counter guy that they couldn't get their rental due to a credit card issue despite being referred there by another Uhaul location. It seemed like he enjoyed turning people away. He almost completely cancelled my reservation simply because I wasn't sure if I had lights attached. I did but I stumbled to think about it and he radioed to â€œcancel that orderâ€ it was a nightmare. Plus it took 2 hours.Angela Z.
I drove less than 20 miles and my truck I rented broke down. Called the service center where I rented and ask if I can put them on hold I told him it was an emergency my phone was about to go dead I was on the interstate and it was pouring rain. They put me on hold anyway I called again and they put me on hold again it was 45 minutes until they told me that they had emailed me a contract which had a roadside service number in it. After contacting roadside service it was good however I would like a full refund on my rental. What took me Nine hours should've been a 2 1/2 hour tripRObert R.

The online system was down. We waited in line for an hour and a half to pick up a trailer we reserved online. Then they lost the cable to hook up the lights and we had to wait even longer for them to find it. I understand they were understaffed and it's not the employees faults but I won't be using uhaul anytime soonJONATHAN B.
U-Haul is Awesome. Had a last minute need to rent a truck as well as movers in two different locations. U-Haul had all that we needed to achieve this. The only "glitch" we encountered was that there was no way to lock the truck while it was parked overnight. We had to buy a chain and a lock at a nearby hardware store. It would have helped to have been able to purchase it when we picked up the truck.Judith C.

The rep working at the time of pickup opened late and was extremely rude to customers. Truck had damage all over it and dirty inside. Cigarettes in the ash tray and windshield so dirty you could hardly see out. Truck hadn't been cleaned in forever.Morgan D.

I reserved a van at King St in Charleston a month ago for a move that HAD to happen on 7/30/22. I reserved early so there would be no issues. The morning of 7/30, I received a text to pick it up at Wappoo Rd in Charleston. I was confused by the change in location so I called. There are no ways to reach the locations directly, so you have to call customer service. I called and waited on hold from 8am to NOON. It would say I had a 30-40 min hold time, and then after 40 min, it would hang up on my and I had to call back. One time, I tried the â€œcall me backâ€ option. Phone in hand, waiting, I never got a call. Then I got a text saying I didn't pick up. They never called, and I had no missed calls. I tried the chat feature, and it said 30 min wait. After 30 min, it disconnected me and said â€œwe see you left the chatâ€. I tried to find any working number to the Wappoo Rd store and the person that answered said they are an answering service for a real estate company and they don't have uhauls. We were trying to know what to do, because we had a 3 hour drive to get to Charleston to move my daughter. During one of my 4 hour call attempts, while driving to Charleston, I selected the option to. â€œPress 2â€ if you have been in an accident. 20 min later someone answered and asked if I'm ok. I said I was not in an accident, but I'm trying everything possible to reach a human. She transferred me to someone in Wilmington NC, who had no clue. That person transferred me to someone in Columbia, SC who also had no clue. That person transferred me to a woman who was SOOOOO rude. She said â€œyour reservation doesn't mean you get a moving van for sure. We have 20ft one in Ladson, SC. This is WAY far away and the truck that big wouldn't fit into where we needed to load things. I asked why we didn't have a van, she just kept saying â€œso do you want the 20 foot in Ladson or not?â€. No empathy, no customer service. I explained we were driving 3 hours, based on a text telling us to come pick it up. Finally, I had my daughter drive to the Wappoo Rd location and hand the phone to a person. The person there said they had a van but someone else reserved it to pick up later today. I asked WHEN did they reserve it because my reservation was a month ago. Somehow, they found another van in North Charleston for us. We drove there and got it, but waited over an hour in line. The extra distance cost more â€œper mileâ€ costs, and more gas money. Do you know what it's like to be on hold and hung up on over and over for FOUR HOURS, all while having no idea what you're going to do to move when you get there with no truck reserved. We were told a reservation doesn't reserve a truck. WHAT IS A RESERVATION then? We didn't even get to start the move until 4;00 that day, so we were still moving all night long and then had a 3 hour drive back home. I've never seen anything so awful in my life. NEVER AGAIN! The staff working yesterday was amazing. Only 1 woman was checking people in and probably had over 20 people in line. She was very patient and thorough with every customer. There was broken glass in the back of the cargo area and I cut myself 2 times loading it up. Also without letting me know they switched me to a cargo van from a sprinter type van. I needed the sprinter type van because of the extra 2 feet of height but made it work. The employees were good but they were down a person so it took longer to get the van but that's not the employees fault. Overall we've used you a few times and probably will again.Chris L.

Make sure uhaul is running properly. The one I received had oil issues and kept beeping the entire time I had it. I pulled back up instantly after I drove off the lot and they knew there was an oil issue, checked the oil without putting more in it, and sent me on my way. I am just glad it didn't stop on me mid drive because I know lack of oil can cause engine and driving issues.Tiara M.

I rented a 10x10x8 unit where the door and latch didn’t match up correctly. The round lock I was forced to buy would not work in the lower latch hole so I had use another lock. When I returned a week later I’m locked out. The staff guy refused to unlock the unit so I could unlock my stuff. We finally had to stop all your customers that were waiting so we could force the staff guy to unlock our unit. Upon removing boxes from storage, all stored along the cement wall had mold. The boxes on the floor had water damage. We were on the second floor and unsure how they had water damage. Shelving units - the shelves themselves, also had water damage on the bottom and therefore are no longer useful.
