There was only two people working and I had to wait 20+ Minutes to turn in the uhaul. One man told me he would be right with me and then after waiting I walked inside and there was only one person working. Allowing customers to smoke while driving and stink up your rented moving vans is unacceptable in 2021! My son and I spent 17 hours driving across the country in a cab that smelled like an ash tray. Furthermore the ash tray, which had debris in it, fell on my computer bag which was sitting on the floor in front of the middle seat. Enjoyed getting cigarette debris off my bag. Also, had a new person helping me who was clearly still learning. It took nearly an hour to pick up my equipment. This was a valuable hour that I needed to pack as I had to return after loading to get the auto carrier. When I returned to get the auto carrier, there was a line, and only one person working at the 3 service desks. One person being assisted took nearly 15 minutes. I know others were working as I saw them. Can't another employee help at one of the other service desks to move the line along? Didn't get the auto transport trailer that I reserved weeks in advance and didn't get the truck at the location that I reserved several weeks ago. Why reserve if you aren't going to deliver? I appreciated the ease of changing my reservation 3 times to a different size truck and different pick up days and times. What wasn't told was that the truck automatically came with a dolly and some moving blankets which is great but had I known, I would not have rented them.LORI WATANABE S.
When I arrived my unit had a zip-tie on it and no lock inside, which was the only thing I needed to actually get started. I had to go in the office and ask for one, which makes the online no-contact reservation idea pointless. I was able to figure it out, but the system of arming and disarming alarms at one panel, and opening the building doors at a different panel, was very confusing. I heard one alarm go off while I was moving in, and I'm sure that happens all the time. The unit numbering is also very confusing, and it took me a while to find the correct building (I'm in the 1600s). Going from the 1400s to the 2000s, and having the 1600s out front, makes no sense. Finally, the stairs to the upstairs units have a lip on them that makes it much harder to pull a dolly up them.Daniel S. | Online Move In
I have somewhat of a lukewarm opinion of the Michigan side of things. I didn't really appreciate having my loading window cut due to lack of employees. While I understand, it added stress to my already anxiety-ridden moving experience. I was also fairly displeased at how long my things sat in storage before the company bothered to ship them, leaving me without my belongings for nearly two weeks after moving. When I read a 12 day window of shipping, I did not think it would take closer to twenty. However, I will definitely say that upon arriving in Massachusetts, not only did they keep proper contact, the driver who delivered and also retrieved the pod was very courteous and helpful, even being understanding about the difficulties we had in dealing with all the snow and ice on the driveway. I would tip him if I could, he did an excellent job. My review would be somewhat more scathing if not for his professionalism.Anthony A.

I am not a uhaul customer, but you allowed a customer to enter my email address, and then you started sending me lots of messages. When a customer gives you an email address, you should send an email with a confirm-this-is-you link, and only send additional email after confirming the proper address. Contact your corporate office. Tell them they sent the contract with a customer to an unrelated 3rd party. Oops!TYLER K.

Prior to this, attempted to use the contactless method to pickup at the storage locker Ann Arbor. Worst experience- please update your requirements prior to picking up to ensure all info is previously validated to allow a smoother pickup, and add estimated times of how long validation takes. You don't want your customers standing outside in the cold for 40+ minutes w/o knowing when a text will come..or in my cases just never came. We never received the validation text allowing us to get into the vehicle. I would never recommend anyone use that process and have already told people not to as you haven't figured that out yet to be efficient. The st street location was quick, easy, friendly.Daniel C.

Was treated like a second class citizen. Was told this truck was well maintained despite it was the oldest truck in the fleet. Steering was incredibly terrible. Felt like you were going to die at any speed above 55. Found out when filling up the tank that I got scammed out of an 1/8 of a tank. When returning it and expressing my concerns, the checkin attendant was very dismissive and didn't have the interest in resolving anything. Said multiple times â€œI should have verified with emailâ€ and â€œThis is how we do thingsâ€. Will never ever rent from another UHaul dealer again.JACOBWILLIAM F.

This location and the staff are very helpful and friendly. No complaints with this location. On the other hand -- central booking needs some help. I reserved a unit nearly a month in advance only to find it not available on arrival with a truck load of stuff -- it really backed me into a corner. Although the local staff did their best to try and accommodate me it was not practical and I had to find a storage location elsewhere last minute. Very disappointing and I will not use Uhaul again for this reason. Not what I had come to expect from Uhaul -- Poor, Poor, Poor!Jonathan S.

Charged credit card when first free month was free. No one answers the phone after 20 minute hold. Tried again, hold for 25 minutes then routed to corporate answering service. They claim some random reason why the Uhaul website was wrong for the free month. They got through to the office in minutes. I was promised a reversal of charges. The original charge to card was not canceled. It went through. Received email of credit, but it hasn't hit my credit card. This free month seems like such a sham. Dear Austin Brown, I've had half a dozen excellent experiences w State St. Uhaul renting vehicles/trailers over the years (at least one of them directly with you), so when I needed storage space, it was a no-brainer, but I was sadly disappointed in the service I got. I reserved a 10x15 space online, and went to get access to it the following week (Tue Aug 4), Michael Fender was rude and exasperated to start, and let me know that the website's listed hours of access were wrong, requiring me to pay $10/mo more; and though it's not listed anywhere on the website, I had to provide or buy a discus-style lock. So far, not great, but workable. Then, my access card didn't work, and when I went back to the front to get it re-programmed, exasperation and rudeness increased. Then, when I finally got to the unit, there was a lock on it. After visually confirming, we went back to the front desk, and Michael searched for another 10x15 unit, but there were only 10x10 (too small for my needs) and 10x20 (too expensive for my budget). He was willing to waive the 24-hour access fee, and give me the lock for free, but I was only going to keep 24-hour access for a month anyway, so that didn't nearly make me whole for the difference of the price of the 10x15 and the 10x20. His only solution at that point was to direct me to the next available 10x15 unit *in Westland* which didn't work for that day (i needed to be somewhere *with my vehicle emptied* in 20 minutes), nor did it work for me in the long-run, being 25 minutes each way too far from my home base. I was understandably frustrated and rather than listen to my frustration, and acknowledge that, he sharply told me that he would not adjust the price to fit my needs, nor could the manager. As someone who manages people myself, and has had to deal with corporate bureaucracy, *I* would want the opportunity to address a repeat-customer's frustration myself, rather than risk losing their referrals and business forever, having been dismissed rudely by a front line worker.
