Tyler Wier was the CSR that assisted me with my return. He called customer care for me because the original drop-off location was closed on weekends and they said as long as i return it before they open Monday morning I wouldn't be charged for the extra day. Then for some reason my drop off location was changed to this location and when I went to drop the truck off they were gonna charge me the extra day. So Tyler went the extra mile to take care of this for me. He then went the extra mile to assist me in changing my return rental from a 15' to a 10' but then it was going to charge me $50 more for a smaller truck. So he called customer care again. I recommend this location for uhaul needs if in the Asheville area.
TRACY MThe workers were all amazing especially Jacob B. But it took me over 2 hours to get my rental there was no discount for my wasted time like it was kinda a shit show. Had the workers not been so amazing I would have complained a lot more and took my business elsewhere.

Cynthia MI was originally supposed to drop off the truck to the swannanoa River Road location but due to the hurricane and subsequent flood destroying said location I obviously was unable to return it there. The aftermath of the hurricane also affected communication like cell phones and landlines so I was unable to contact anyone. Once I finally did get in contact with someone they told me to drop the truck off to the south Asheville location and I wouldn’t be charged for the additional days. Now they have tried to charge my credit card $800 several times which I had blocked. Now the debt appears on my credit report, which I will be fighting. I lost most of my belongings in the flood as I was attempting to move when it hit. The hotel I was staying in until I signed my lease was completely destroyed. Now I have uhual punishing me financially for circumstances beyond my control. In hindsight I actually saved the truck from complete destruction when the flood came by driving it off the super 8 parking lot at great risk to myself. Had I not you wouldn’t have a truck anymore.
PAUL WMy household belongings were stored at your Asheville, North Carolina facility for the past decade. Unfortunately, as you may know, the recent flooding caused by the hurricane damaged this facility, and while some items were displaced, many of our possessions remained in the spot where our unit once stood. I am an Army Combat Veteran and had significant equipment, uniforms and irreplaceable memorabilia in addition to the normal household goods, tools and family heirlooms. In an abundance of caution, I had waterproofed and securely stored much of the possessions, specifically to survive a flood knowing that the Swannanoa river was nearby. Upon attempting to recover our belongings, we were advised by U-Haul representatives that it was unsafe to do so and were told to await further communication. We were assured that we would be contacted when it was safe to proceed with retrieval. However, despite waiting for an update, no further communication was provided. Instead, we recently discovered that a demolition crew had been hired, and all remaining contents of our storage unit—including items that held significant personal and sentimental value—were disposed of without notification. We understand that flooding and storm damage present difficult challenges for everyone, but we had taken precautions to protect our belongings, and we were hopeful that items surviving the storm would remain recoverable. The lack of communication and the resulting disposal of our possessions without notification has left us feeling both disappointed and disheartened. As long-term customers who relied on U-Haul to store and secure our possessions, we kindly ask that U-Haul consider our situation and work with us to provide a fair resolution. Given the circumstances, we respectfully request the following: 1. Documentation of the decision-making process that led to the disposal of our belongings without notification or opportunity for us to claim them. 2. Compensation to help us recover from the loss, taking into account the time we trusted U-Haul with these items and their irreplaceable value. 3. Commitment to improved communication protocols to prevent future occurrences like this for other customers. We have always trusted U-Haul, and we hope that the company’s commitment to customer service will allow us to come to a fair and reasonable outcome. I look forward to your response and am hopeful that we can work together to resolve this matter.

My biggest issue is UHaul has not provided any information as to the condition of my storage unit (#3000) after Hurricane Helene caused the flooding of that East Asheville site. I was given an email saying the UHaul was sorry to see me go and asked for this survey. I live 300 miles away from that facility and am not allowed to go there and view the damage. I know there are many people that is affected by this disaster but any communication would be helpful. Was my furniture washed away or damaged or destroyed? I HAVE NO IDEA!!!! KENNETH J | Overall ExperienceWhen I first rented the storage unit in 2021, I would have rated it higher than a 3, and all of my answers would have been yes. However, over the past two years, the service and quality at this U-Haul location have declined significantly. The hours became limited, and I was no longer allowed access to my storage unit at any time, which I discovered by chance as it wasn't communicated to me. This made retrieving my personal items quite difficult. At that point, I should have taken my belongings out, but after the recent storm, things have only worsened. When I called customer service to find out what was happening, they informed me that my unit had been "moved out," and I had no part in that. I would NEVER recommend anyone use this storage facility, even if it were rebuilt. The communication has been TERRIBLE. As customers, we should have been notified about these issues, but that never happened. The only thing I was notified about was when my rent was due.I am highly DISAPPOINTED and UNSATISFIED with this Uhaul location.

I have spent several days trying to find out when we can come look to see what is able to be saved since receiving the call and text to come either Sunday sept 29 or Monday sept 30. Law enforcement had the roads closed per text sent Sunday (29th) at 10:30 am. I tried to go on Tuesday Oct 1 and law enforcement still had roads closed and would not allow us to go to uhaul. I have called numerous time and have not received a call back on when we can access our unit. The roads are now open to the unit but now I cannot get anyone to tell me the access hours. An email was sent today Oct 12 by Tammy the rep I spoke with. My move our date shows oct 7. I hope I can still access what may be salvageable of my things.

JACK SWhen I arrived at the pick-up location I was notified that I would not be able to receive the booked UHaul due to a company-wide site outage. Mind you this is after two team members saw that I and another customer had walked in and had been waiting. These two team members ignored us and proceeded to talk loudly in an adjacent room. Then when the woman finally came out she notified us that she couldn't help us because of the outage. She was careless and didn't seem to offer much more information other than to call in the next few hours to see if they were up and running again. Because I lost half the day I needed to upgrade to a larger vehicle and try to get all my moving done in a shorter period. This caused us to return the vehicle "after hours" which was another $30 charge. I am so disappointed with the customer service and lack of competence.
KYLE LI was disappointed in the end because I accidentally filled up the fuel tank and was not compensated for the extra amount over its original fill.
SALLY ACancelled this rental in March and moved out. Then I continued to receive billing notifications-- even AFTER I responded to remind them that I no longer was renting the unit. This is not an ethical way to run a business. I am filing a complaint with the BBB, and judging by the fact that this company has 1.5 rating with 2,282 complaints in the last 3 years, I am definitely not alone.
KEITH K | Overall ExperienceMobile pickup was a joke. I had already checked in online, then switched to mobile pick up, and had to re-enter everything again including the drivers license.? Y’all need to fix that. Ended up having to go inside anyway. Mobile experiences should be seamless, and this was not.

ELEANOR JI was new to the area, there is No notification from the road view, as to where to park on the lot, no notification where the office is, i parked on the wrong side of the building. I had to wonder around the building, among the trucks, and trailers to even find The office, on the opposite side of the building. There needs to be signage to help direct new customers to the proper site and as to where the office is, and where to park

WILLIAM MI believe a 27 point inspection should be done on every vehicle dropped off after use if possible. Our truck had a check engine light upon pick up and I noticed the transmission was struggling through gears on first initial start up, but after it warmed up a bit it shifted as it should. This could be do to a low fluid level or a clogging trans filter. I also noticed at around 45-50 it had a wobble in the steering, possibly a unbalanced tire or a steering component failing, other than these maintenance problems, awesome experience. Friendly staff and an urgent response to customers upon entry to pick up equipment.Thank you guys!
Trace AWent by around dusk and was afraid to go in because there was a shady (possibly homeless) guy loitering by the entrance. I waited for a while but left when he didn't go. He appeared to have a key card and was trying to get in but I couldn't be certain. Also, while most of the staff were pleasant and helpful, I didn't receive any instructions on how to access after office closed and then when I found someone to ask, they were very brusque and seemingly annoyed.

Frank LAll good except that the trailer tires were not properly inflated. Tire says 65psi for maximum load. One was at 30psi, the other at 50 psi.
TIMOTHY MEach person with whom we interacted at the East Asheville / Swannanoa River Rd facility was kind, helpful, and patient. No small feat on a busy holiday weekend! Alan was particularly helpful in assisting us with choosing the right long-trip transport vehicle for our needs. The wonderful women at the front desk who handled all the paperwork were fantastic to work with. The facility itself (the building) is a bit worn and weary, but the staff is what counts most! Thank you all so much.

WARREN SGive me safe equipment!!! Upon arrival at my destination I found the left tire worn down to the cord and the right tire showing signs of tread separation according to the tech who came to replace the worn out tire. All the trailer was carrying was a 250lb racing motorcycle worth $15,000. Had one or both tires failed catastrophic injury or death might have occurred on roads packed with big rigs. At the least damage could have occurred to a valuable and rare motorcycle. Photos of the tire were sent to U-Haul. I am an ASE certified Master Technician and have been in the automotive service and tech training business since 1967. Had one of my technicians let a vehicle leave our care in such a condition they would have been looking for a new job. I expect a full refund of my rental fee.

Mark ERented a uhaul before but never had a bad customer experience before coming here. Getting checked in I asked a few questions trying to get clarification, only for "Alisa" to give me condensing answers and talk down to me like I'm inconveniencing her or should know these. The worker next to her would tell me he sees what I'm asking and will answer or tell her about my reservation "just put it in the computer like this" because he could tell she was getting agitated for no reason. As I was filling out the checkout she exasperatedly puts her head down and says "oh lord please, Jesus take the wheel". Even if that wasn't directed at me, why do that in a customer service job? It seems like they don't want to be there and don't care. Outside load staff was great.

The employee should not have to call their manager on the phone, who is on his day off, to find out what to charge for the unlisted item. I put an item back rather than buy it for that reason. You lost a sale.

NEPHTALI FRented a cargo van for a local move I Asheville NC for two days. The van was perfect for the price and very reliable. Would definitely recommend them. Great friendly customer service and was able to rent the vehicle with out a reservation. Thanks to the team for a great experience.
THOMAS RI drive 57 miles, putt almost 6 gallons ( 1 gallon for 10 mile ) of fuel and when I arrived to return the truck they said I need to put 5 gallons more of fuel. I was nervous and I'm starting arguing with them, finally I put extra 6 gallons ( total 12 gallons) and they block me on U-Haul.
ALEXANDRU CCar carrier had issues with one tire being bald and a slow leak. I had to stop and fill with air and and worried about have a blowout. I notified UHaul attendant when I turned in the equipment.

Dennis LThe Trucks door would hardly close or open. The truck would not go out of tow mode. So it burned gas super quick. But the staff refused to comp any money or give a discount. The staff was also generally unhelpful and at a point rude. I have never had such a bad and frustrating experience with any of the many times I've rented a uhaul over the past 3 or 4 years. The truck also had a check engine light come on. But I'm very mad about the truck not leaving tow mode and burning all the gas and staff not doing anything about it. I doubt I'll be choosing uhaul from now on.

BRANDIS BWe rented a 20 ft truck. We arrived at 7:30 AM to pick it up. You didn’t have one. We were sent to another dealer 30 miles away. No one was there. We went back and rented a15 ft truck. Our arranged labor waited 2 hours for us. We had to pay for their wait time. We couldn’t get all our things on the smaller truck. Our son had to bring a trailer to carry the overload. We like a company that provides what was contracted at the time promised and the location promised. This was a miserable experience.

BRUCE HOpened 15 minutes late. Had to return shortly after I left because the check engine light came on. Was told that happens all the time on that truck and there was nothing to worry about. It would have been nice if they had told me that when I checked out!
DENNIS CTruck was filthy inside the cab. Interior dirty windows, floors and seats dirty and dark liquid that was ‘gummy’ in the console cup holders…we couldn’t even use them and I refuse to clean up someone else’s filth in a rental. Also, it’d be nice to start with a full tank of gas. With the stress of moving having to go fill up before you can start is an unexpected time sync.

JOSEPH HI used the app to save time. I stood to the left of the service desk (per the app’s instructions) for 10-15 minutes while the cashier helped a non-app customer. The only thing I needed was the key. It was probably 5 feet from me. I could see it in the wall. The key-drop in the window was broken and taped shut with packing tape. The orange key return had no security measure. It’s literally an orange box that sits out in the open. After returning my key in the unsecured orange drop box I was called and accused of not returning my key :)
Nathan BOur truck smelled like cigarette smoke, had this terrible throbbing pressure sound in the cab no matter what we did with the windows or climate control, had no ability to connect to music except a plain radio, and offered a LAP BELT ONLY for the middle-seat passenger. We paid $200 plus gas to move one truckload only one county over. We also weren't allowed to reserve a truck with 3 seats, and had to trust that we would get one (which thankfully we did). UHaul needs to do better for what they charge.

PETER HI tried to return it to a closer location and the gentleman there told that I couldn’t because it wasn’t supposed to come to him - he had plenty of the size trailer that I had rented. He said that I could not call the number from there to change the return location because the trailer that I had was probably already rented out - he was really an a$$. I was also returning the trailer 1 day early. So I drove further to the original location to drop off - the people there were very nice and very helpful. As I talked to UHaul customer service today - they were very helpful and told me that I could have called and changed return location from the first place that I went to. Overall my experience was great except for the a$$hole that I had to deal with.

The staff works very hard and spread too thin. I think most of any of the problems in general have to do with upper management and not making it a happy work environment. I kept the storage unit for several years with my late Father's belongings and some other family members stuff.......had no idea what all was in there boxed up until I had to let it go.....and the guys that cleared it out for me said they wish we could've gone through what they dumped.....lot of history from my Dad's life and ministry, The Rev. Dr. Wesley Grant, Sr. Asheville Pastor and world traveler and missionary for nearly 70 years! Was on radio totaling 70 years and Billy Graham radio 50 years and television tv-13 wlos for 16 years, the first Black pastor. You just never know what's boxed up and stored away when family asks you to keep something for them and never help you! The guys said stuff was taken care of well in the facility! Thanks! Louis Grant
LOUIS E | Overall ExperienceReturned my unit 3/23 and it did not get processed until 4/3, resulting in a late fee charge. U-Haul customer service is of no help, so they gave me the manager’s contact information- Chase Underwood. Called him 2 days in a row and left messages, also let the attendant at the store know when he spoke to him to please tell him to return my calls. He still hasn’t, but is sending me an email to please rate my experience. Funny.

Colin W | First ImpressionsI was moved out of my unit twice in the computer system. Then I was promised two months free rent. However, that was not followed through with. Therefore, I was put in lien status. When discussing this issue on the phone with a U-Haul employee and explaining the two promised free months, the employee lied and stated they were from the corporate office and screamed at me over the phone. Afterwards, I fixed the lien issue. Recently, I came out to unit and found that the lock from that previous lien was still on my unit. I called customer service and the first agent proceeded to send me back to the cue. I did have better experience with second agent; he made sure that I actually was connected to someone at the facility. However, the facility did not have a key and had to saw the lock off. This entire episode took at least 45 minutes during which time my 82-year-old mother was waiting for me in the car. Additionally, a previous phone agent stated that he would report the behavior of the staff member who lied. He stated I would receive a response after he turned in the report. I was never contacted either by phone, text or email! Customer service needs to improve drastically!

CECILIA R | Overall ExperienceThis is a facility and business preying on peoples with no where else to go during the pandemic. Secured a unit that was supposed to be 10x10 and get there to see its Unit 4000, which is 5x5x10H - when I asked was told there were not other units available. Since I was moving that day, and during COVID storage facilities in Asheville and surrounding were few and far between. They absolutely had other units available but knew I had no choice since I had also rented a uhaul truck for that same day to move. Compare cost of a bigger unit in Charlotte I have and chose to continue, where I pay $59/month this one cost the outrageous $124/month to start, and it was smaller! Then month by month the price just kept getting raised, using inflation as an excuse, knowing it was already wildly overpriced. Before I moved out rent was $139. If that was the only problem with this facility I would have probably just given below average. But then when I could not take the price hikes any longer and decided to move out and put everything in my unit in charlotte, we arrived to see the horrible conditions of my things and our unit. It was clear that whoever was cleaning the facility just simply walked through the inside halls with a leaf blower, pushing all the leaves an dust and dirt into the units, especially mine it appears, that had outward facing garages but inside open walls at the top. Showing no concern whatsoever for the folks things that were being storage on the other side of the walls. There was more dust, dirt and leaves in my unit that if I had stored thee things outside for the last few years. Water had clearly crept into the units from the garage doors not being sealed, as all of the wood furniture that was touching the ground had been rotting. Expensive furniture ruined, from the water and debris. This has been very easily the worst storage unit experience I have had in the carolinas and I've had more than 10. I will never use Uhaul again. And of course, when I notify Uhaul online that I am moving out and the unit is empty and lock removed on 9/29, I got confirmation back and expected to be done paying for you all to ruin my things, but no I am now being charge rent for the month of October, and late fees to boot. Yesterday got a lien notice. I will fight you all and this extra month of rent as long as it takes, you owe me thousands of dollars in ruined furniture and will not get a penny from me for a unit I didn't use in Oct.

For the countless thousands of dollars I’ve spent with UHAUL this derision was something I will never forget. Your employee of Mike Miller as a manager is a disastrous public relations move in my experience. I would recommend JD as a manager. All the other staff have been more than pleasant to deal with.

I would be hesitant in recommending an outdoor unit there for several reasons- My storage unit always had leaves on the floor and puddles of water water beneath my boxes. I had to use a tiny ‘rope’ to pull my door open with, which left my hands hurting. Also , the door would come down and almost hit my head if I didn’t grab it on its way back down and give it an extra hard push over my head. These are easy fixes, so I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend outdoor units were those things taken care of.

The surly manager would charge up demanding to know if I used my card. I told him yes I had just like last time he asked. He said he was just making sure policies were followed. This was ironic since he refused to EVER wear a mask despite city and company policies calling for him to wear one like most of the other staff. This was like walking in to see him flipping both middle fingers at those who wear masks. I got tired of it and closed my unit down early. We have options and you should take your storage business to places where they care. They will use short staffing due to Covid no doubt, but that wouldn't explain refusal to care about the health and safety of customers.
