First, U-Haul changed our location to pick up our vehicle. When we arrived to pick up the Uhaul truck, the two dozen moving blankets were not available at that location. They never told me that they weren't available. So the Nacogdoches location made me go to a different location on Austin highway to pick up the moving blankets. When I got to Austin highway location there were also trucks there so I could've picked up the truck and the blanket at that location but instead I had to go to two locations after my original location was changed. It was all inconvenient and I booked my reservation well in advance.HOPE H.

Stop renting out trucks with 94,000+ miles that have air conditioning units that cut out every 10 minutes and air conditioning vents that fall out while driving - It's summer in Texas with temperatures in the 90s and a heat index close to 100 degrees Fahrenheit. Also, hire ethical and competent employees that give a discount for U-Haul's incompetence, rather than punishing the customer for complaining by noting on the account that no discount will be given and then refusing to give the customer a copy of the notation. It's laughable that U-Haul is even asking for my comments - once a company like U-Haul reaches oligopoly status, it doesn't have to give discounts for its incompetence, nor does it have to pay better wages to get ethical and competent employees because most of U-Haul's competition is gone and customers have few, if any, viable alternatives.TAMMY D.

My unit was #3009, when I got it it hadn’t rained and moved out n. Couple of days later I returned to unit and it had rained and there was mud and water at the entrance door of unit. It was messy trying to step over the mud and water and I also slipped on the mud. I noticed that the gutter above unit door had been damaged and water was coming thru the damaged parts. This was in April when Irented the unit. I expressed my concerns with the front office numerous times and was told it was going to get fixed and mud swept away but it never was swept or gutter repaired. I confirmed a 10 X 30 storage rental with them in person confirmation #740068-109488 it was a free rental for renting the 26 ft truck i was willing to pay for it if need be but as fate would have it i drove from San Antonio with a 26ft truck stuffed and had no whare to put it as i planed to put it in storage in wichita falls texas at the u haul center ion Kell Blvd needless to say they didnt have one available so i was left with having to put it in 3 friends garages all over town.john D.
This location denied my husband (a black man) a 20' U-haul as a walk-in. Gave him an â€œ800â€ phone number to call (to find a location that had a 20'-because apparently they had none), and 10 minutes later we were told we could get the requested U-haul (mind you, there were four on site) at the same location. Now, I walk in, (a white woman) and instantly get the same requested U-haul. Why wasn't he allowed the same customer service as I was? It doesn't say anywhere in your advertising that you have to call ahead. This isn't my first time utilizing U-haul (and have never had to call ahead). Great online self serve service! Makes it super convenient to rent a uhaul. The only thing with this specific location is they don't have a location to pick up or drop off the keys with out going inside. I had to go inside to pick up my key. 1. The building had a horrible smell to itâ€¦ just foul. 2. The people there were completely rude and didn't even have a full conversation with me they just asked me my name and put the key on the counter and mumbled something under their breath. So they could quickly return to surfing the web. 3. The rental truck was clean on the outside (i'm only assuming because it was raining), the inside of the truck was filthy you could tell it was not and had not been wiped down in god knows how long. The reason I picked 2 stars is because I was duped into this facility. I rented a UHaul to move across the country. With the rental, 30 free days came with it. I reserved a 7x20 for $129 a month after the first 30 days. I showed up and there were none this size available in a 30 mile radius. I was given a 10x10 for $134 a month. I ended up just going to a different company to store my stuff cause UHaul did the old “bate and switch” and the facility didn’t meet my needs at all. My box was scheduled for 19th of June ..wasted my whole day waiting. I called multiple times and it was confirm that it's being delivered, but right before 7 pm I was told it never was pickup to be delivered to my house. Finally it was delivered the next day. I scheduled it to be pick up the following day June 21â€¦.no one came to pick it up. Call Tuesday Wednesdayâ€¦they said it will be pick up on 29th of June. Very inconvenient to us keeping it here while we just moved into our house where we need the space for other deliveries to come. Reps at uhaul over the phone either don't know what they doing or just lying to customers so that the call can end. Did not like the experience so most likely won't use it again or recommend it to people I know.Phuoc D.

The pads were filled with visible dirt. The van hadn't even been swept out. It was filthy, too. Remote didn't work and it needs an oil change according to the dashboard display. But what ticked me off the most was the pickup location change less than an hour before pickup. I showed up at the location to pick up my U-Haul. There was a lock box but I had no code. Waited on hold with customer service for 40 minutes. Was told the location did not receive my U-Haul so I needed to switch locations. Drive another 40 minutes to a new location. I missed my arrival deadline in Dallas due to all of the delays. U-Haul should call proactively if they need you to switch locations rather than wait for you to show up and call when you can't figure it out. Would not recommend U-Haul to my friends who are planning on moving cross country soon.JESSE H.
We reserved a truck from a different location just to be told they didn't have a truck for us. What is the point of reserving a truck if you are not going to have the truck. I understand there are circumstances that are out of your control however the truck was over 15 miles away from the location we reserved it from. Seems like customer service would have been to take a truck to that location for us (which I asked for) but that didn't happen. BUT then to charge us for the 30+ miles is a shame. If we had not already scheduled movers we would have looked for a company that would have been more honorable. U-Haul took 10.00 off the rental fee of the truck, the extra mileage was a bigger charge! We get to the other location just to be told that the truck was brought back empty. We had to stop at the closest gas station. Just wondering how happy you would have been if you received this kind of service. The vehicle was dirty and damaged. I took and submitted pictures, but the location refuses to answer the phone and hangs up on me automatically when I call. They charge for damage that is already on the vehicle. Don't use this location. Don't use Uhaul.Jonathan H.
The inside of the truck and the bed were dirty, broken glass, empty plastic bottle and trash on the floor. I returned the gas tank at the exact spot as when I drove off. I was charged $52.00 for three gallons of gas on top off my rental charge. The same guy who signed me out was the same guy I spoke to challenging the charges. Long story short he said it was my responsibility to tell him before I drove off that the tank was not exactly at a 1/4 of a tank. For starters, I have a huge problem with the reservation process. No one called me to schedule the pick up time and location, so I called in my â€œpreferred pick up locationâ€ at 2390 Austin Hwy, San Antonio TX at about 11:30am. They said the 6x12 trailer had been double booked, but that they would give me the trailer bc I had the first reservation. I scheduled a time of 2pm and asked if I needed to go earlier. They assured me the trailer would be available when I got there. However, when I arrived at the Austin Hwy location, they told me they did not have a trailer for me and your employee Jose could not have been any less concerned. When I tried to discuss the phone conversation I had with his store not three hours earlier confirming my reservation, he refused to listen and told me he did not care. Complete incompetence and/or lack of concern for your customers from the Austin Hwy location crew! He even told me to go to Penske down the road. As for the Nacogdoches location where i ultimately picked up this trailer... This location was clean enough. The two guys I spoke to were cordial and helpful, but the trailer itself was in rough shape. There was a tie down inside the trailer (front lower left) that had been pulled out which they were unable to replace. If they had a simple torx wrench and a replacement tie down, we could have resolved it in about 3 minutes. The inability to use that tie down made it very difficult to secure my cargo! Additionally, there was a bolt missing from the first bar on the front of the trailer which made that less than secure. And the floor of the trailer was not completely secure and moved up and down under my feet. Overall, a very disappointing experience, and sadly in-line with my average experience with UHAUL.MICHAEL K.

The truck was awful, after driving it down the street the front left wheel was.damaged and I could not drive faster than 40 mph. I took the truck back, and told the young lady about the problem. Her answer was that was the only 17 ft. available sorry, what did I want to do, I needed it for 15.5 ft material so I was stuck. She said all the equipment is totally checked every time it's returned. Guess she just tried to appease me. I have always used your service atleast 6 times this year check and never have I felt uncomfortable or scared to drive. I've rented trucks and trailers before, and I will continue to, but I will not store anything in the future. The staff was helpful when we moved stuff in, but at the end, they were not helpful at all, and were extremely shady with the closeout process. We were trying to get out by March 14th, but did not get it done in time, so my stepson paid for another month on March15th. The staff at the location was in such a hurry to get us out, that they closed the account and deleted the information just after my stepson made the payment for March 15th to April 14th. I could access my U-Haul account online, but the storage unit history was gone. Fortunately, I keep copies of my online receipts and corrected the staff when they stated that we were only paid through March 14th. Once I pointed out their error, they said we had until April 14th to get the lock off and turn in the access card. I guess they forgot that, and since we had been deleted from the system, they messed up. I found out later that my stepson took off from work to go over and close out the storage unit well before April 14th, but when he got there, the card had been deactivated, and his lock had been cut off of the unit. I have no idea when they did that. I guess getting our rent money, plus possibly getting a partial month from a new customer during the same month for the same unit is a good way to make money, but it is a horrible way to treat your customers, it's shady, and it's wrong. My stepson had paid for the last month, and he didn't tell me until now because he didn't want to make an issue of the situation, but I'm taking the time during this review to make the statement. I came from California and didn't know the area I was moving to. I asked UHaul to find me a Storage facility as close tothe town of Boerne, TX as possible. Instead they put me an hour and a half away - in San Antonio and heavy traffic. I ended up not being able to access my storage unit for a year and a half. Now that I emptied the unit and returned the truck in my new town of Fredericksburg, I find out that there was a UHaul Rep 2 miles from my house!!!! I am so angry with UHaul Headquarters! I paid a LOT more to be a LOT more inconvenienced! WHY?! Because UHaul wanted to keep my account instead of allowing me to use an affiliate location!!!!! That was WRONG! I am the President of a Relief Org and they KNEW IT and still took advantage of me! I believe I deserve some. kind of refund or consolation for all the trouble I went through! On the storage unit that we were given the holes on the door didn't align and I was told I had to buy a particular lock even though I already had my own UHaul heavy duty lock. When I went to the back to put my items in the unit we waited for over 30 minutes for someone to come and open the unit. Then after loading my things in when we tried to use the lock that I was forced to buy I had to use my own lock anyway because of the lock holes did not align. Then the person that sold me the lock didn't want to take it back and refund my money and she finally admitted she couldn't do a refund. I had to wait 2 hours to see the person who was able to do the refund, and she suggested that she could give me another unit.
