awful rental experience. Waiting for resolution. Needed electric harness prior to renting 5x8 trailer Got it on 8/1 from this dealer. Only asked to check emergency flashers. According to Uhaul, if they work, that means brakes and directionals work. Dealer apparently never checked brake lights to see if they worked, or if harness worked. After driving 400 miles a family member who was following us told us we had no brake lights. We called Roadsite assistance. They came to our hotel. Said it wasn't the trailer; it was the harness. Tried a few things. Didn't work. Nothing they could do. Texted and called Roadside assistance maybe 4 times? They said I should take it to a Uhaul center the next day when I arrived at my vacation destination; that was in Muskegon MI. I asked them to contact that dealer ahead of time so they'd be aware of my situation. On Saturday 8/6 arrived at Muskegon MI Uhaul. They had no idea I was coming. I was told there was no one there with the expertise to trouble shoot the problem and that they didn't even have the quipment there to do anything anyway. Contacted Roadside assistance again. Tonya, who wasa very helpful, and said she was in charge of all accident claims, said I had to go to a center with a "hitch pro" and sent me contact info for the center in Holland MI. I called them and explained my situation and they said their first availalbe appointment was in October! Tonya again said she'd try to find a local contractor to help. She called several times that day but I missed her calls as I was with family. I never heard from anyone at Uhaul again. Before returning (a 1000 mile trip without brake lights) I texted Roadside ASsistance AGAIN to see if they had any suggestions and no one returned my text. Libby at the POrtsmouth site has been very understanding but the manager is not there today, so I do not know whether they will refund my hitch fee, my insurance (which accomplished nothing), and any of the rental fee. God, I wish there was an alternative to Uhaul. So other than the fact that we were sent out with a defective harness and no brake lights, this center was OK. The main problem was with Uhaul Roadside assistance.JOSEPH U.

Van was due for an oil change. Simple maintenance. Didn't expect a $20. Charge for dropping it off during off hours. However the van was great on gas but the Bluetooth was not working properly, I can live without it but would of been nice. Overall it was an ok experience.Christopher S.

The staff was amazing! We blew 2 tires on our trailer while passing through the area and the team went over and beyond to get us moving again. Had to wait approx. 30 Minutes for vehicle to be checked in on return. this caused me to be charged for a second day minimum as check in time was recorded 30 minutes after my arrival. When a customer rents a trailer to transport a vehicle, the UHaul Rep should ensure they know how to load the car on the trailer and guide them up while they do. I was able to manage, but once it was connected to the truck, he departed quickly.Edward A.

For a place that specializes in diy type people moving, closing at 5pm on Sunday is kind of surprising. There were 3 people trying to figure out how to return their trucks (that need to be returned ASAP) to a place that is closed and the website was not working and there was no one to help.Kevin L.

Waited a very long time for help. There was one female and she was busy giving someone propane for a long time. There was about 5 people in line waiting, not know if anyone was working. She was by herself and very busy so obviously not her fault. Upon driving off with a 15ft truck I immediately thought it seemed weird. it was having problems in first gear. Took about 15-20 second before it changed into second. After second it seemed ok, but where I was loading from was only 20-25 mph. After loading furniture, proceed to drive to new location. New location is approx 22 mins on the highway. After shortly driving I realized that something wasn't right and definitely could not take the highway because it would not accelerate properly and had to intermittently tap to get past first gear. Had to take an extremely long way double the time to get to new location. Unloaded and then proceeded to drive back to the location because at this point i couldn't do another trip because of the vehicles condition. While driving back, now the pickup was even worse and had to go below speed limit. Stopped for gas a mile next to return location. Once I pulled out from gas station, transmission was completely shot and I had to put hazards on and drive 5 mph and pray I could get it back to the lot. Had I not been going downhill I would have stalled.. had I not been familiar with this type of situation and adjusted driving conditions this would have been a disaster and possibly deadly if someone else were to attempt to yield onto 60+ mph traffic. My annoyance aside I really hope someone services this before it goes back into rotation. Feel free to call if needed.Gina D.

I would not blame this location- but we reserved a truck online & it was confirmed with an address e-mailed to us - this was not accurate (neither location had a truck). I received a phone call from corporate to tell us this about 2 hours after my reservation time - luckily we were able to postpone the reason we needed the truck.Kayla M.

Online pickup with a cell phone is nearly impossible with the authenication, verification requirement. Your website makes it sound so easy; but it did NOT work at all for me, so I had to wait in line to pick up my rental. I did not mind waiting in line, JUST STOP MAKING THE ONLINE PICKUP SOUND LIKE IT'S PERFECT AND SIMPLE! It is anything but!Janice S.

Sweep off the very muddy/dirty ramp, left by previous user ~ minor oversight, and the rest of the truck was tidy and clean, but a LOT of dried mud and dirt on the ramp, so had to be careful not to let any furniture fabric, etc. touch it ~ again, relatively minor detailmonica B.
The equipment was exactly what I needed. The staff was very helpful as usual, and work with me to make an adjustment to my rental. However, returning rentals after business hours is a nightmare. There were several of us there wandering around trying to return vehicles and trailers and none of us could get anything to work. I left after a half hour frustrated and had to pay a penalty for not returning it properly. They need to fix the after hours return process badly.Stephe H.
I thought it was good and I appreciated that the person handling the booking did not charge me for going over time. He did not realize that I actually did not get the trailer until well after 6 pm and that they haul service line sent me to the wrong location for the drop off which led me to arrive after 6 pm.Eric H.

I had to unexpectedly move across the country. I could not be physically present to sign documents to let my stuff go and stop renting the unit. This particular location was extremely unhelpful and most of the time they seemed annoyed as if I, the customer, were a burden. I wouldn’t recommend this location to my worst enemy. No one there communicates with each other. It took me 6+ months to get them to change my address. And basically more than a year to get them to stop hassling me to pay them for a storage unit I was no longer using. They hide behind policies and procedures to get out of doing the right thing for the customer. Finally someone contacted me and they seemed to have half a brain and they sent me a simple letter that I could sign and email back. How simple?! Why couldn’t that have been done sometime in 2019? we used one of your truck to move items to another storage facility ...they did not come through and we were able to secure a storage space from U-Haul with very little notice. The online check in doesn't work. The pin I was given doesn't work on the key pad, so I had to go into the store and get a key card. The gentleman working at the uhaul facility on portsmouth nh on April 18th at 9 am was absolutely wonderful! He was kind, efficient, helpful, and enthusiastic. Especially during times like these, it was comforting to have such a friendly face to help me out. In terms of uhaul as a company, I was thrilled to receive my first month of storage for free.
