I assisted my daughter in her cross country relocation (for military service). When we arrived at Portsmouth she said the “man at the counter was so nice”. A few hours later I had the pleasure to meet James. He was extraordinary in his demeanor and professionalism.

James TI keep coming back. Jimmy the manager runs a great business. His team is excellent. This time around the reservation system was down and there was longer waiting times than usual. While tension was building in all of us waiting in line it was wasn’t with Jimmy and his team. It was clear they were fully invested working intensely to get us on the road.

DAVID CStaff, facilities, and vehicle quality and vehicle cleanliness were outstanding. Pricing was very fair, and worth every penny. However... The mobile check-in process was much more complex than it needed to be. It took more than 15 minutes to complete the process despite entering all required information several days prior to the scheduled pick-up. I reserved a 9-foot cargo van online, walking through the process from start to finish on home PC. I uploaded the required pictures of my license (front and back), provided credit card information, and provided required addresses. When I arrived the morning of pick-up, I was asked to do all these things AGAIN when using my smartphone to access U-Haul's website. I did not download the U-Haul app as I very rarely need or use U-Haul (or its competitors) to move belongings or other items. Once my information was entered (again), there was a long delay to "process my approval", between five and 10 minutes. On my phone, in the Chrome browser, I pulled down to refresh the page and voila! I was approved. I believe if I had not done this, I would still be waiting for approval. When I was searching for my vehicle, there was no lot/spot number assigned, so I had to wander around the property until I found a vehicle that matched the appearance of my requested 9-foot cargo van. Once I found a few cargo vans at the rear of the property, the website directed me to look on the passenger side front quarter panel for information that matched what was shown online. The identifying information on my requested vehicle was on the driver's side bumper, and was incorrect (missing a letter). Proper pictures were difficult to take after getting due to the way the vehicle was parked on the lot (rear in, against a concrete wall), making it impossible to take a proper rear photo of the cargo van. Side pictures were also difficult to take due to how close other vehicles were parked to the cargo van. The morning of pick-up the business was very active; to take proper pictures would have required blocking an exit from business.
JOHN NGreat experience overall. The trucks, however, were very tightly parked (understandably) so I Would like to add that if I had pulled the 10' truck out straight back the side mirrors would have been damaged. I was very careful and had to get out to push the mirrors of both trucks back to pull out successfully. I would have appreciated the truck being backed out for me or at least had the attendant warn me or push the mirrors in before backing out. Otherwise, a very smooth experience. I have used this UHaul company twice ,once to pick up and once to drop off. Great location, professional staff and the truck was virtually new.
Manon PEverything was very good. Mentioning that we would get a link on the phone asking us to take photos before leaving the office would be good. I didn’t see it until I drove to my house, and the link expired.

paul uI was disappointed to discover a $48 “missing/damage” charge on my receipt after returning my U-Haul rental. The charge appears to be for furniture pads that were returned unused and still sealed in their original plastic wrapping. I also didn’t notice the charge initially because it was not clearly explained on the receipt. At this point I have not yet contacted the location about a refund, and I’m hoping this was simply a check-in or inventory mistake that can be resolved professionally. However, it’s frustrating to find unexpected charges only after carefully reviewing the receipt later on. I would strongly encourage customers to double-check their receipts before leaving.

Andy HThis is a confusing rating, I know. The leadership team here is excellent, but I picked up a trailer that wasn’t in good shape. It was wet at pickup and leaked during use. I get it, these guys do a lot of business; but they should have checked the condition before departure. When I told them what was going on Steve and Eric were apologetic and compensated me with a free day. On an unrelated topic, your app and website still perform poorly. Please hire my company to fix them! Antony

BRENDAN C | First ImpressionsWhile old, the facility and storage room were fine for my needs, as they were not long term (just 2 months). The staff was helpful, especially since they seemed greatly understaffed. I had two issues. The first was there were always U-Haul trailers or customer cars blocking the loading door. I had to ask someone to move each time I tried to access my unit. So ‘loading only’ spaces would be a great idea. The second issue was that my promo was not honored. When I booked the unit, I also booked a truck so I was eligible for one month free storage. It didn’t show up on my contract, so I went in the same day to get it updated. The person working said he could not make that change and that I’d have to contact the GM. I went back 2 times to get this rectified but he wasn’t there. When I went to close out the unit, he was on duty, so I asked him to apply the credit. He was a bit abrupt and said ‘this was two months ago, I can’t do that - ‘. He told me I needed to have come back or call right when it happened. I explained to him that I did just that and the person working told me that they couldn’t help and to come back and talk to Jimmy (which I attempted several times). He then told he me works 6 days a week and, again, that he couldn’t give me the credit. I was quite disappointed.

This particular location was extremely unhelpful and most of the time they seemed annoyed as if I, the customer, were a burden. I wouldn’t recommend this location to my worst enemy. No one there communicates with each other. It took me 6+ months to get them to change my address. And basically more than a year to get them to stop hassling me to pay them for a storage unit I was no longer using. They hide behind policies and procedures to get out of doing the right thing for the customer. Finally someone contacted me and they seemed to have half a brain and they sent me a simple letter that I could sign and email back. How simple?! Why couldn’t that have been done sometime in 2019? No, I battled with this location from 2019-2021. Unacceptable.
