Staff is very pleasant and helpful upon check-in. There was a issue with the drivers cab leaking from the rain. My portable chargers, garmin device, and paper work on the storage area under the radio was compromised. I did online check-in and assumed I could have moved in immediately. However, upon my arrival, the storage unit was locked with a padlock so I had to look for staff at the front desk to help me unlock the lock, which was quite inconvenient because if I went after office hour there wouldn't be anyone to assist me. The truck we rented was a nightmare. The arm rest was broken on the drivers side, the key would get stuck in the ignition every single time. The back door of the cab didn't lock properly and I was stressed about it opening the entire trip. The radio didn't work. The transmission was on another level-- literally almost at 5,000 RPM when trying to keep up to speed on the highway, it sounded like a city bus. The right side mirror wouldn't budge unless you pulled really hard. The "Tow" light wouldn't stop blinking on the dash- I don't even know what that means. For a truck with 156,000 miles on it I guess this is all to be expected but this is the by far the worst UHaul I had ever rented. No disrespect to the location and not to be melodramatic on purpose, because most of the people there were very helpful. But I would never rent a UHaul again and will go with another service here on out because I thought I was going to die in that thing.Edward B.
I would not recommend Uhaul to a friend! This location is amazing, however, Uhaul as a whole honestly made my move ridiculously harder then it should be. Both of the trucks that I pre reserved were sent to different location and no one let me know. Both times I went to the location thinking that I was going to pick up my truck to figure out that the truck was sent to different locations. NO ONE contacted me to let me know that the location changed to this one. I was at the original location at 7am in the cold trying to find my truck. No one there to help. Then I find out that my truck is 30minutes away from my original location. Then I called to complain about this customer service was rude. Again, I didn't get my $50 since my reservation was not ready. Not only was customer service rude, they kept transferring me and never solving any of my issues, and one even hung up on me.ROBERT W.

Due to weather conditions, I was 15 minutes late for my pickup, which removed me from the self-check in system. When I finally got through the check in process and found my vehicle, it was so covered in snow I had to find a scraper brush and remove about 5 inches of snow from the windshield, mirrors, and top of the truck. As a result, I left the lot about 20 minutes later than anticipated and was still expected to have the truck back by the time selected on my reservation.JAMIE M.
First off get a general manager who knows what she is doing and is available to the customer and their concerns. Obviously she needs training as well as some of her staff members. Her sister messed my entire account up, put me in a wrong unit and instead of keeping me in that unit I had to move all my belongings out and move to another unit then the unit I was first put in was supposedly a 10x15 with a huge round concrete pole in the unit making the space small and the GM said I was suppose to be giving a free smaller unit with that unit and was never giving that at all but yet I had to move everything out and put in a 10x10 which is what I thought I had and I tried meeting with the GM on several occasions prior to this and she was either on-site and not available or not there and when I did meet with her she was rude and said I should of been moved my belongings that I didn't have to meet with her to do that. Well considering knowone there really knows what they are doing why would I not meet with her. It was one guy there who was very apologetic and he tried to help me and said the GM sister had not a clue what she is doing and Obviously he was right. I shouldn't of had to move my belongings, the price I was quoted should of been honored because it was her mistake not mine. Then getting locked in the building several times and the GM not even available to assist and calling back the next day or not at all after we found a way to get out and this was before 10 and coming there and random guys squatting or hanging out in the main level where we park our cars inside and from the horrible smell in the ceiling of the elevators that never went away that smell of road kill. Then not being able to return the truck properly as far as the check in process because the same guy who was rude to me before was in such a hurry to go home he told me I had 20 minutes before he was gonna lock the double doors so we had to rush to get the bug things out those doors and couldn't because he ended up locking them and we had to to the rest through a single door and he didn't enter something right on the truck rental which made it to as where I couldn't do a return from my phone after parking the truck. That entire staff there with the exception of one and starting with that GM needs to be trained. And to give me a $20 gift card for all this nonsense is ludicrous and a insult so I will move forward with a bigger complaint outside of this company. Before moving here I never had problems when I used this company and to make it a horrible experience for us and then give me a gift card to use with you all again,I think notTHERESA C.

Don't have straps that are cut or modified. The straps couldn't fit my tires. In general no customer should receive a truck that is below half a tank of gas. I got mine at 18 miles left and I'm driving 4 hrs to CT. Of course I have to fill that tank up which costed me total of 150 extra I wasn't planning to put out. Also the fact my trailer hitch wasn't included in my truck pick up is such an inconvenience. Didn't get extra Miles to go pick it up, apparently wasn't in the policy, and of course made me go over miles. Honestly the whole experience was BS and I will be finding a different company to use in the future.JACOB A.

The woman who rented me the truck was excellent. Returning the truck was a different story. I brought the truck back many hours early (5pm) it was due back by midnight. I went to the counter and the woman made me return it through the website and sent me back to the truck 3 times to keep taking pictures. Then the 3rd time I came back in - she was gone. Given theses times I think these folks did a very good job. I would only suggest that they have more back up when needed which, as a business owner myself, I know that in this new environment can be challenging. Truck was OK and trailer had a damaged fender however it was usable. Reason for low rating is the clerk; I got there at 8:05-ish and left around 10 because she took a while to finish paperwork, didnt accurate tell where the truck was parked, after I finally found the truck, I had to wait for her to find my vehicle transport (she didnt print out the cargo van and car trailer papers my first time in the office) all of that took almost 2 hours. Everything was paid for by the time I got to retrieve the rental equipment to avoid delays, and that clerk delayed me by two hours. This is a utilitarian high volume former industrial location. It is kind of ugly and could use much better signage to direct customers. In a large city like Philly it is easy to maneuver a truck without a lot of aggravation. The help was fast, knowledgable and on target. Overall, the staff and management have proved top-notch, visit upon visit. Most specific comments of items needing attention are those primarily involving fellow customers and the need for professional services, beyond the staff. Cart availability was an issue. There were numerous times when upon arrival for a segment of my move(s) - there were no carts to use [three storage units filled and vacated within two month period, over numerous segments]. When a truck is rented and a crew is hired and on hand, that complicates and increases the cost and stress of moving significantly. Solution may include more carts (with tracking chip???), especially given the number of units housed at this location; and, reinforcement of the cart honor system through signage at each floor's elevators to take only carts actively in use use (no storage between trips), return carts to cart parking upon each storage departure (not abandoned on unit floor), and programmed panel reminders with each card swipe (check-in, each elevator swipe, check-out). #1 - Storage facility well-lit: All well-lit though designers/architects/electricians would have done well to include some motion-censored level of lighting per unit. #5 - Facility clean and well maintained: Plumber needed for bathroom toilets. Always clogged. Too low flow for 'public' use. 5th FLR, where my units were, has concrete deterioration in patches along the walkway making for sections of gravel path which the carts are hard to roll over. There was one person working and he was working very hard He is very kind and accommodating and knowledgeable But he can’t be everywhere at one time. People waited in line for a long time home I am because the computers were down it took us, over an hour and 20 minutes, to get an elevator to open and take us upstairs to our storage space. The card didn’t work and the pin didn’t work and the second pin we were given didn’t work. And we called from the elevator but the one employee was very Busy and could not answer, so we waited at home while we waited and waited and we waited. A day prior to moving out of my storage unit, I spoke with the location’s UHAUL customer representative about an after-hours (post 10:00pm) move ahead of a trip across country. The UHAUL rep assured me that an after-hours move/check-out was possible and, as is standard operating procedure, that the only thing needed to access the facility is my storage keycard. Furthermore, the rep noted that in the event of any issues, UHAUL has a designated after-hours General Manager on duty to assist. Feeling good about the procedures in place, I proceeded with the move, starting the move-out process at 9:40pm. Well, about 1/4 of the way through, as we took the first load downstairs and exited the elevator, access was cut off promptly at 10:00pm - meaning, I could not come back up the elevator to grab the rest of my belongings or at the very least close the wide-open storage unit. To contextualize, I have PAID movers who are carrying my belongings from storage unit to truck outside before heading off for the night to a destination across country. But wait, this should not be problem because according to numerous signs inside the storage building and the customer representative whom I spoke with earlier, there’s an “after-hours” manager on call to resolve any issues! Unfortunately that was not the case. After about a dozen phone calls, several texts, and voicemails left to the said after-hours GM, Alicia Hicks, I and the movers had to give up and, quite literally, leave my storage unit open with personal belongings fully exposed. What’s worse is that I had to hire additional movers to come in the following day to pick up the rest of my belongings. Again, because this was a trip across country, this fiasco caused by AFTER-HOURS GM refusing to answer her phone cost me over $1000 in costs. Not only unprofessional but absolutely unacceptable. As a side note, when we initially entered the storage unit, alarms were blaring yet no security or UHAUL manager was on site. The facility did not have water in the bathrooms. The toilet did not flush. The bathrooms were filthy. The vehicle was filthy and smelled horribly of cheap cleansing product “ Fabulouso” which does not disinfect. It took your breath away. When you left the vehicle your clothes smelled like it for hours which you needed a shower right away. Lastly upon returning the vehicle there wasn’t anyone in the building to check you out. I maintained a storage unit for 3 1/2 years. I moved out and two days prior to my move my payment was processed. I asked if I would get a pro rata credit for the 28 days I was told no because I received the first month free when I initiated my storage rental. In general, this location met our storage needs. The location manager, Alicia Hicks, was friendly when I was able to make contact with her, but this was rare. Originally, she extended a monthly discount to us to price match a quote given to us for our size unit by a different Uhaul facility. After a little over a year, that discount was removed by senior mgmt without notification to us. I filed a claim with customer service and Alicia told me that she'd follow-up with senior mgmt to look into whether something could be done. After we (and seemingly Alicia) were given the run-around for almost a month, and after submitting multiple follow-up claims requesting a callback for an update, we eventually decided to take our business elsewhere due to the lack of communication and feeling like it just wasn't worth the hassle. On the day we decided to move out, the garage door at the facility was not working, which prevented us from being able to park close to the elevators and made the move-out process more difficult than it needed to be. Although it seemed like Alicia was doing her best to move the process forward, we would've appreciated better communication from either this location's staff and/or the customer service team that handled the claim intake. Had someone from senior mgmt reached out to us, we would've considered maintaining our storage unit.Erich D. | Overall Experience

This unhappy review is for 314-322 N 13th St, Philadelphia, PA. I reserved a unit on May 15 through the website (#808042-00115070). I showed up the day before I planned to move all my stuff into storage and they said there were no units available! That the website was allowing people to make reservations even though they hadn't any available for months? The staff at 13th Street found a unit at 8 E Oregon. Other than that, they were close to useless. Very dismissive, like it's not their problem. Ok, it's not their fault that U-Haul's website is busted, but why did no one call me ahead of time???
