No one approached me when I pulled into the lot. I went into the office and there was one person waiting on a customer and three people in line. Someone came in from outside and went behind the desk. However, he did not wait on any customers. Eventually, the man working the counter asked if anyone was returning equipment. One person waiting in line was returning a van. The person who came in from outside took her keys and the person working the counter said he would e-mail her receipt. I said I had a trailer to return. The person who came in from outside told the person working the desk he did not know how to unhook a trailer. I said I did but could not do it alone. He came out and I showed him how to release the ball. I removed the chains and electrical connection and helped lift it off the car. I then left the lot and got a receipt by e-mail. I had a really bad issue where I had to push out the auto transport myself with another woman employee and I hurt my back. It was dark/rainy and in a bad part of town. I have rented and used U-Haul services for years, but this facility is the worst facility I have ever done business with. This facility has the most incompetent employees I've ever had to deal with. We had a U-box to be picked up on Oct 6th, but they did not have it available. We then rented a truck at 3 PM, returned it between 9-9:30 on Oct 7th, and they wanted to charge us for a two day rental. Lastly, because they did not have the U-box available, we were forced to rent one of their storage unit, which was disgustingly nasty and unacceptable. Their were poison rat boxes inside of the unit, no lights and very smelly. Due to these concerns, we told them we did not want to acquire this unit, and asked for a much better presentable one . They proceeded to state they didn't have any other units available. This was the last and only available unit. We proceeded to have the attendant cancel the request, which she said she did, but on Oct 8th, I received an email stating I was first late paying for the storage unit and then charged a $15 late penalty fee. All of this in a 2-day span. We called the facility on Oct 9th, talked to the same attendant who assisted us, and she was unable to figure out the issue, or assist us as to why we are being charged for a unit we cancelled immediately. We have a copy of the paperwork saying the charges were reversed, but it doesn't reflect on charges of the invoice receipt. I had concerns then, and now I see why. This facility should no longer provide or ever again assist future customers. Avoid them at all cost. The entire day with that U-Haul facility was the worst and most unforgettable day. We were in forced placed our HHGs at another storage facility, in hopes of finding someone professionally capable of having it shipped out to the west coast as originally scheduled. Casey needs to be retrained or let go. She does not know what she is doing. She gave me incorrect paperwork for my rental causing discrepancies in my charges and I am still waiting on my refund and feel like I'm getting the runaround. I called uhual and they told me I had to go back to the place I did my rental at. I went back for the 2nd time and the manager Craig Lovings said he could not process a refund at this time and does not know when he will be able to get to it as he has a stack of refunds to process. This place is very unprofessional and I do not understand why he could not give me a straight answer on when my refund will be issued. Some of the staff members was not friendly at all especially when I call from Texas to pay my bill they were accusing me of being somebody else and try to overpay me they told me that I owe such and such on the storage which I didn't and it was just a lot going on and since I've been back to South bend Indiana everything is clean and neat there but the little disorganized it seem like a lot of youngsters are working up there that's not really knowing how to download and find people storage and things so y'all might need to work on that but what I recommend you whole of course cuz I have you holding Texas as well thanks again for your services but I won't be using you anytime soon in South bend thank youBernice B. | Overall Experience
The fuel level on the rental form was higher than what was displayed on the truck's fuel gauge. I asked the counter to correct the form, and was told that as long as I returned it on the same half (between empty and half or half and full), I would not be charged. I had a reservation to pick up a truck in store set for 7:00 AM... The store was scheduled to open at 7:00 AM... However, no one showed up to open the store until after 7:45 AM... Multiple customers with reservations were standing outside the store waiting for over 45 minutes. When calling the phone number, the response was that the store was scheduled to be open at 7:00 AM. The store is terribly understaffed. One employee running the whole store. Our appointment took 9 hours to be completed. And in less than a week the wiring harness broke. This location could not accommodate the repair to be completed before we needed to have our trailer rental picked up. The truck was super dirty. It was filled with some sort of animal hair, garbage, and nothing was wiped down or cleaned. It smelled horrible even after I cleaned it. You scheduled first appt at 4pm. Get a call the day before canceling saying that you never have appts at 4pm. I sent the quote and receipt stating the time, and they still canceled. Then took me 3 wks of recontacting the store to reschedule. I had to reschedule, not them. Then, they never told me I could borrow a vehicle during the install. Then they continue to send me reminders of the $200 rental fee I owe when they said it was free. I've already called to inform them, and still getting billed? The day of the install, drop off was at 8am. At 945, I get a call asking if my vehicle was dropped off. Three hour install? Took 12 hours!!! During that time I never got a phone call update, explanation, or apology! This service was absolutely the worst! I will not be back and not refer anyone. It's impossible reach anyone at this location. I've tried to speak with someone onsite regarding making payments towards my storage unit balance over the course of 2 months . Everytime I get transferred to the call center where they leave messages for the office but I've NEVER received one call from anyone. I live 2 and a half hrs away so just walking into office isn't possible. The only communication I had them is the emails I received when payment was due and now the final notice. I don't care how busy a business is it for never be impossible speak with them. Especially over a couple months. People moce out of town and use storage for a reason. I reserved a 10' truck but when I got there it was not available even though it said it was gaurenteed to be there. The ladies at the desk were rude and unhelpful all they said was nope it's not here sorry. So I asked if I could get a different truck and they just said no. Then I stood there with them ignoring me before I asked if I could at least get a cargo van to which I was able to get.
