I needed a car to use while my personal vehicle was being fixed. Enterprise was asking $360 for their cheapest rental, while uhaul ended up being only $230. The uhaul pickup was brand new and fun to drive. The staff were very nice and funny.

The employees weren't knowledgeable about the supplies that were available and they gave me the wrong dolly (appliance instead of furniture). Even though I ordered my supplies ahead of time, there were not sufficient mattress covers. Instead of offering other options, the employee just canceled the item from my order.

I went to the site in advance to reserve the van and, if possible, I'd find a way to speed up the reservation process. The computer entry process your employees go thru seems cumbersome and slow creating longer wait times for customers in line.

Truck was not available, poor (corporate) customer service and little action to resolve issues. I reserved my truck over a week beforehand and I checked in several days in advance to confirm my truck - there was no truck available when I arrived at the U-haul location to claim it. They were short at least two trucks, as there were people in line ahead of me who also left the U-haul location without the truck they had reserved. I was told there would be a truck there for me the next day and when I asked what assurances I could have that a truck would actually be available at 7 am the next day (12 hours after the original reservation), I was told I there were none but that they would give me a $50 credit if it wasn’t there. Of course, that $50 would have been virtually useless, since it wouldn’t have helped me actually move out of my apartment. I next went online to chat with a customer service agent in an attempt to determine what had happened regarding the overbooking and how they were going to insure that there was actually a truck available for me. After receiving no assurances of any value from the rep I was speaking to, I asked to speak with a manager and was told I’d be contacted “in a minute,” but never received the promised phone call. Fortunately, the promised truck was available the next morning. At first the staff seemed to dismiss the issue I had had the previous day as a normal business operation – I had arranged for help moving the previous evening that was useless since I did not have a truck and was now left with less people to help and less time than I had planned. After pressing them on these issues, I received a $50 credit for my inconvenience – while this is something I accepted, it falls well short of the cost in terms of inconvenience I suffered and should have been something that was offered freely rather than something I had to press them to do due to their screwup. I do not entirely blame the staff at the U-haul location for the truck not being there – according to them it wasn’t their fault that they were overbooked through the corporate website. However, something went wrong with the system and someone should have realized that they were several trucks short before 6:55 with no time to get trucks from a different location. Or perhaps, this is just a normal way of business for U-Haul to overbook and leave people in the lurch like this. Ultimately, this added a great deal of stress to my move and I will no longer be using U-haul for any further moving or storing needs.

Thank you for reminding me of all the reasons I strongly prefer Enterprise Truck. I only used Uhaul because they didn't have an appropriate vehicle available. I ordered at 15' truck to be available at 1:30 p.m. At 1:24, while I was driving to the rental location, you sent me a text that my truck would be ready at 3 p.m. So I rearranged my afternoon and came back later. Then the mobile pick-up didn't work. After I entered the verification code it took me back to the login screen. So I had to wait in line at the counter anyway after having gone through the annoying process of arranging for people to be available to receive a call at exactly my pick-up time, then having to redo that for the modified time to avoid your always way too long counter service times. Your staff further had no clue that there was a dolly on the truck. I waited several minutes for them to locate one before they decided there wasn't one available. The truck was falling apart. I lost count of how many times I pushed both the driver and passenger door seals back onto the door. And the dash had clearly been through numerous spilled beverages without getting cleaned well enough. While I was unloading the truck the next morning, I received a phone call at 7:48 wondering when the truck would be back because it was due at 8:00 and the next renter was waiting for it. First of all, I had reserved the truck for 20 hours which should have given me until 9:30 at my original reservation time and 8:00 was news to me. I had told the guy at the counter when I picked up it would probably have it back at 8:30 and he said nothing. So I rearranged my plans again, didn't take one part of my load to its final destination and instead drove back to the rental location where I had to move those things into my personal vehicle so they had to be moved three times instead of two. I wasn't given an opportunity to tell the staff anything about my rental. I really think the truck should have had its brakes looked at before it went out again, but the staff member who processed my return just shouted a number at me as he ran by and the next renter drove off with the truck before anything could be said. Worst experience ever.

This was not the location I originally requested for drop off. Was not the location that was confirmed in my original reservation. Not even in the same town. I called customer service to change the location and they lied about the confirmed drop off location being closed and not having space for the trailer. I drove right past the confirmed location and they were open with an entirely empty parking lot.

Had this happen another time at a different location. Someone needs to seriously look at the system and get it to work properly.

Service was exceptional - trailer itself was in excellent repair and functioned well. The bed however had what appeared to be loose pieces of wall plaster in it. Didn't have a broom to clean it, but put a plastic sheet down to keep the couch I was hauling clean. Over all well satisfied.

I had reserved a trailer for 7:00 a.m. pickup on 5/11/19. The only employee that showed up in advance of the store's opening was a man named Jesse, who was actually filling in that day from another store, so he didn't have a key to open. Jesse was the only positive thing about this experience. Because I had all of the information filled out online in advance, he was able to get me checked in using his phone and I was on my way. There were many other upset customers that morning that weren't able to be helped until another employee finally showed up. I then returned my trailer 1.5 hours earlier than the agreement time of 4:00 p.m. Then I received a call on 5/12 asking if I returned it. I told the rep I had returned it to the same location and they thanked me and said they would handle it. I then received an email on 5/13 stating I still hadn't returned the trailer. I called the number in the email and worked with a nice woman, but I was on hold a long time while she was trying to communicate with the local store. I believe the issue has finally been resolved, but overall a terrible experience. Not surprising given the Google reviews!

While everyone at the store was incredibly helpful and polite (so polite!), when I called after my service about a question, the woman I talked to who was taking calls for a few locations including the west side of Madison one. She would not forward my call and repeatedly asked “do you know it is our busy season?” My experience IN the store was great, but this woman was unhelpful and lacked customer service skills.

Only bump in my experience was the length of time when we returned trailer. Only one young man was working & he was in the process of getting someone their equipment. I was told he would be with me shortly. Maybe a few magazines or a small waiting room for those peak hours.

We had our first truck break down not 4 miles out of the parking lot after returning to the U-Haul and being told it was all fine to keep driving with the light on. A new light came on and the road assistance phone number said it was a windshield wiper fluid problem despite hearing the constant beeping. After less than a mile the truck started smoking and we had to request a tow and speak to at least 12 different people and multiple hours on hold we found ourselves in a new U-Haul with people who had no idea what our problem was so we had to wait another hour or so more to put us just over 5 hours late for our move. Worst moving experience. Your whole incident process needs to be overhauled. It's an embarrassment

Have staff available to serve customers. There was 1 rep handling 1 customer at a time, taking forever. Fix your mobile check in app. It just doesn't work. No surprises when I called the 800 number and it said, "call volumes are exceptionally high". If your mobile app had worked, I and thousands of other customers would have to call in. Teach your reps how to key in orders. I logged in online and can't see either of my two orders because the rep keyed in the wrong information on my order. I've always been the same guy, with the same name, email, phone and address. But the two didn't match. Teach your reps "customer service". I told a rep the mobile app login was looping and wouldn't allow me to check in my vehicle. She didn't help me fix it, then told me "I'm sorry you are having trouble logging into the mobile app." She should have said, "I'm sorry our app is not working at the moment."

Long story short...this is a major location on the west side of Madison, and you are completely at capacity with customers but had ONE EMPLOYEE working both Saturday and Sunday. Moving is already stressful, and having to build in SO MUCH extra time into the timeline because of this location's and Uhaul's inability to staff properly is a major deterrent in my decision to rent from you again. Seriously, waited in line over an hour and half to pick up a simple trailer, and waited another hour and half to get help when dropping it off...to the point where I got under the truck myself (3 ACL Surgeries) and put myself at risk to unhitch the equipment just so I could stay on schedule. I WILL NOT BE RENTING FROM THIS LOCATION EVER AGAIN.

Jeremy was rude and I don’t appreciate his “customer service” at all. I setup my pickup the day before, arrived early to the pickup, waited in long for a long time, some young man helped me and was very nice, he stated I can make it a one way trip and drop off the trailer closer to where I was moving so I didn’t have to drive back 1.5 hours to the same pickup location. I handled everything I needed to, I tried to call a few local neighborhood location for drop off and visited a few as well, either non existent, number not working, nobody picking up. So after that frustration I call the original location and I get attitude because I’m not there in time to drop off my rented trailer. “Oh yeah, two to three hours late? That sounds like it’s your fault. You need to drop it off at this location, don’t know what to tell you, you’re wrong” okay... so I drove back to the original location. I called Customer service and I actually was put through the reservation line after being on hold for ~15 minutes, she transferred me to CS after listening to me vent, after holding for ~25 minutes I get a rep and she helped me and was able to waive the next day charge for the trailer, after about 39 minutes. So all in all, not happy that I just spent 2-3 hours trying to return the trailer and was greeted by an unpleasant rep at that location and that I spent my gas money and out mileage on my car when that’s all I was trying to avoid! How difficult is that!? I go to drop off the trailer after receiving email confirmation only to be greeted by smug attitude Jeremy that hands me the paper “see it’s drop off at noon buddy” ... manager isn’t in of course, he runs away as I’m talking as well. Now I’m going to save my story and paste it over the review sites and when I get time again I’ll make sure to call and speak to his boss. If his attitude and that locations service is any representation of the management at the location, I have NO FAITH anything will come from my complaints. Great company, terrible location and poor, just poor customer service.

I reserved a truck online and then tried to edit it for more time at least two weeks before picking up the truck. When I arrived they said the edit didn't process and that the truck I had reserved was reserved by someone else shortly after my original return time. I had to scramble, but was able to secure a much larger truck than I needed, but everything eventually worked out fine.

I rented a van, and it was great. The backup camera is a nice feature. Those weren't available when I last rented a van. One comment would be that the access to our storage units could be better protected; the door locks should be more foolproof :)

There were some steps of the pickup that were skipped. I was confused because I didn't get all the information. For example, the customer service rep didn't explain what I should do with the text I received containing a link to photos, and so I didn't open it until the link had expired.

Be sure to have ziptipes on the dolley and green bag of moving blankets, both didnt have any. Both need to have ties so you know if guests use them or not. I was not charged since I didnt use them, which was correct, but I had to go out of my way to make a phone call and stop in person to make sure I wouldnt be charged. Otherwise process was easy and my charges were correct.

They changed my pick up location not once but twice. They never informed me it changed a second Time and I drove to the wrong location. This happened to the two people in line behind me as well. Very poor communication. There was one worker and 5-6 people waiting in line. What kind of company doesn’t make people return things with full tanks? Ridiculous. Will go with a different company next time

Open trailers should be able to be taken one way. Customer service reps should be more clear when booking trailers, as I asked for two open trailers but was told i booked enclosed. Was forced to go to another location and forcibly change plans last minute due to the trailers we needed being unavailable for one way trips. Team members were very unenthusiastic and unwilling to help. Overall not a pleasant experience, but I suppose it doesn’t matter because you’re the only company to rent from.

I was charged for more furniture pads than I took as well as missing furniture pads that I never had. The muffler was about to fall off of the truck, a few furniture pads were wet and full of mud. The back of the truck should have been swept out and. I asked for a call to discuss my bill and the store did not call me back. However there was a truck there as reserved and the move went well despite these things.

I reserved a Uhaul twice online for this location, & my reservation was unknowingly switched to a Uhaul location across town TWICE!! I had to psychically go to the store to get a truck rental, I was able to secure a decent size Uhaul that was listed as unavailable online, I was also told this location didn't have the size I originally asked for period at that location or any size larger from the Uhaul 800 line. Then the truck died after we had it loaded it wouldn't even start. I called the location and the lady said hold on I'm transferring you. I'm assuming she transferred me to roadside assistance that I was on hold with for over 20 minutes before I hung up and had someone jump start the Uhaul from the apt complex. No reimbursement for anything. The Uhaul location was great, The phone reservation & experiences was not.

Yes!! Keep trucks gassed up!! Moving is a lot of work and time is limited in most cases I believe most would appreciate taking off right away and not finding a gas station first

Please, do not let them touch your car (at least in Madison Wisconsin) Heavily understaffed and not professional as expected. Read the following for my nightmare. The people before me waited for their hitch to be installed for 3 hours, which is a reasonable amount of time. However, this delayed my appointment for 1.5 hours. Afterwards they were told that the hitch is not compatible with their car and they will have to return another time to get it installed. No compensation for their time. After that people who had quick tasks got attention before me (as they should since only 1 person was working there). Everyone who tried paying rent on their storage locker was told the cash drawer couldn't be opened so it would be processed the following day (making the payment late and accruing another fee. Supposedly the fee would be waved). Finally he gets to my car 1.5 hours after the scheduled time. It took him 3 hours to complete the task, leaving me thinking he must've done a great job...... I was so sorely mistaken. Everything else delaying me was okay,this is where I got really upset. I looked at the car while it was on the lift. He did not remove the plastic to insert the drawbar I paid for, so he couldn't install the ball. So I mentioned that. He had to cut the bumper because he couldn't get the piece of plastic off. I paid for a 1 7/8th ball, but he refused to install it, and installed a 2" ball instead. Luckily after all of this he gave me a 1 7/8th ball as a "sorry you've been here for so long" gift. But again, if I wouldn't have looked at the car, I could've just left and not received the drawbar or ball for pulling the trailer I needed the following morning. Next I saw the wiring.... This part really agrivated me and I have to redo it myself now. He didn't retightening the negative on the battery (luckily I had a ratchet with me else I would've bee. Stranded on the road). Also he used a black wire to run to the back. In automotive wiring, black is ground, so this was very frustrating. The wire was also laying on top of the engine, thankfully I saw it to move it before I drove away so it didn't melt. Another part of the same wire was only a couple inches from dragging on the ground, and in the back it would have gotten tangled up in the wheel (that could've gotten really interesting). He also left the four prong connector in the car instead of next to the hitch like a normal install. Finally, he decided to ground the system by using a self tapping screw into my wheel well. There was sheet metal right next to this that would have also grounded it, and not have let the exterior of the body be pierced. But now my wheel well gets to rust out much easier. I paid enough money expecting a professional installation, and what I got was a complete joke that I get to redo. I could've paid a 12 year old and gotten better quality than this joke.

Customer service was terrible. Argumentative and negative overall. We also had to wait a half an hour to get service. Only one person on staff and took forever to help one customer ahead of us. We were in a hurry to get going on our move and this did not make for a good start.

We had a 9am reservation, and I was on a strict time constraint. The employee was over ten minutes late, offered no apology and informed us that his alarm went off but his body wasn’t ready. He had to “Open” the store, retrieve the vehicle and when I wanted to go, told me he had to wipe the windshield, while the entire thing was covered in ice. I would expect an employee to be at work in time to open the store, drive the vehicle around and have it cleaned for the arriving customer. Won’t use this location again

The van was very new and in good mechanical condition.The cargo are was very clean. The cab area of the van was relatively clean but there were some food stains on the passenger seat and a partial french fry on the floor. Equipment pickup and drop off was quick and easy. The location manager was helpful and friendly. The rental pricing info on your website is misleading so my final bill was significantly higher than I anticipated.

The reservation was good. The pick up was good except truck wasn't totally full, was below full level Guy said he would give me a fuel credit. Returned truck, check in guy said sorry, the check out paperwork says full. No fuel credit.

The van really wasn't clean at all. I removed sugar packets, small pieces of cardboard and particleboard, and sunflower seeds before using. This isn't a serious problem. Service was courteous and the wait was less than it often is at U-Haul locations. Based on this, I would recommend this location.
