The staff at the check-/out were patient, kind, and professional. The worker inside the garage wasn't helpful, and more interested in talking on the phone than being available to help me. Otherwise, it was a good experience. I will use U-Haul again.

Online reservations, online and email confirmations, and signage inside garage for returns says after hours drop off is available, yet, inside the location there were small signs and I was told that the vehicle had to be returned same day or early morning to avoid additional days charged. This is unacceptable. I only chose this location to bring the vehicle back same day after hours.

i locked myself out of the truck with the key and my cell phone and rental paperwork inside. Once i was able to get the emergency road service number for help it took over 40 minutes for someone to answer. The recording kept suggesting i log in on my phone for a faster response. Hard to do in my situation. Very frustrating. But all ended well.

Hving to scan my own driver's license and having to fill out the forms about the condition of the van myself. I find that annoying. What if a person doesn't have a cell phone with a camera? Why should I have to do that? For the money I paid for my rental, I expect more from Uhaul. I also had to move a box away from the front of the desk to even get close enough to the young woman working there to make the rental transaction. I liked Uhaul better when it was not dependent upon my cell phone.

I was very surprised when I saw additional fees being added after I had already made the reservation. Not disclosing a facility fee when you reserve only could be considered a violation of several consumer protection laws.

Update the 24/7 contactless pickup policy to reflect the actual procedures of this location. I am immunocompromised and had to go inside the store and have multiple encounters with employees to get my van. I find that absolutely unacceptable.

nothing to do with the actual location, but UHAUL cancelled my month old reservation and then remade it for a pick up 50 MILES away from me. I had to reschedule my entire move (about 90 minutes calling and being on hold) bc you guys can't get your system right. I lost money and time. I will never use this company again.

Indicate where the 3 closest gas stations to the locatiin are on the paperwork. But I guess that would take away from your revenue from that?

The surprise $30 fee for below 1/4 tank of gas was bullshit. I was told it had been waived, but I see it's on my bill. I'll be disputing the charge. You gave me the fucking van with a quarter tank of gas and told me $3.75 a gallon, and then suddenly it's $30 extra because the tank is below a quarter? Sounds like a fucking scam to me. You need to tell people there's a fee before they take a car, and give them a car with enough gas in it that they don't have to do YOUR FUCKING JOB and fill up the tank. Go fuck yourselves.

It fet like bait and switch. 29.99 but ended up spending $140! $15 facility fee, and all other extra. It feels like being ripped off. Rental was fine. The gas @ 1/4 also felt wrong. We should get full tank and return full tank.

Recommend pre-rental check in. Walked up, gave my order number, showed my drivers license and they handed me the keys in under two minutes. Piece of cake!

The customer service person at the counter could be clearer in communication that a text message is sent to one's phone to confirm the mileage gage before one drives off with the vehicle. So pay attention to text sent to phone. In addition, from when one goes online to check for availability there needs to be a voiceover or video explaining how U-Haul is automated confirming everything electronically at the store and on one's phone. Overall, I was extremely satisfied with my experience. The last time I rented from U-Haul was 8 years ago. The new fleet of vans are fantastic. It added to feeling safer while driving and more in control of the vehicle. An overall pleasant driving experience.

Made a reservation weeks in advance for a 15' truck/ 123 free miles. Not many trucks were available in nyc but phone dispatcher located one and reserved it. The DAY before the move i get a text from uhaul saying they don't have it anymore which results in me receiving a 10' truck/ 103 miles. This creates a huge problem because the truck has 1/3 less space (can't fit everything)= more trips= more miles= more expensive. And the kicker was the personel just tell you to call Uhaul corporate # and when i did, the "manager" could care less and argued with me about my request for complimentary miles for the massive inconvenience it is to make multiple trips back and forth (not a local move). Not professional, extremely poor customer service, and terrible policy for a business that facilitates moving for it to be acceptable to change the size of a truck with no notice. And btw, even if they were to give notice, they don't answer the phones at this particular location. i called every day twice a day all week leading up to it.

I had made a reservation for a one-way rental, and then 2 days prior I was informed that there were no trucks available in all of NYC for one-way rental. I was forced to make a round-trip rental, which was double the originally quoted price. I am very unhappy about the misleading agreement.

The photos in the review were the same license plate but NOT the same van. The van only had a 12 volt charger. Who carries one of those these days??? My phone was on red so I had to write down directions and keeping looking at them while driving. Not good. If you're going to have vans with such outdated technology, you should include a 12 volt plug with a USB port.

The vehicule has just been dropped by a previous customer when I got it. The tire sensor stayed on at all time. I brought that to two different maintenance guys at the place. They both told me that they don't know why the sensor was on. And the tires were okay. After raising my serious concerns, one of the guys checked all four tires to show me that the tire pressure was 85 psi which was okay according to him. I think that that was wrong for me to travel about 900 miles from New York to Chicago. The truck was not in good shape. I could have not driven no more than 40mph, especailly in Pensylvania, which was mountainous and longer drive about 11 hrs. It took me 22 hrs to get to Chicago. Ridiculous. I'm not happy at all for putting my life and my wife's in danger, while renting this truck costs over $1,000. Thank God I got here in one piece to Chicago. But no more U-haul renting for long trip. I think that the tires were over flatted with 85 psi. Too much.

After I reserved the truck for pickup from the Chelsea location, your system asked if I wanted to check in online in an effort to cut time in the office and be safer given covid. I spent the next 15 minutes checking in, including downloading my husbands DL front and back photos. When we showed up today they had nothing: they asked for the ID, for the DL, for my name (I made the reservation) and touched everything we handed to them. When I called them on it the guy said “that's not available at this location”. I asked why the system wasted my time with the process and he said “we've given that feedback to corporate a million times and it falls on deaf ears”. Not your company's most shining moment on multiple levels.

Employees were not helpful in directing me to obtain the trailer brake lighting adapter. this is a product that Uhaul stocks, with Uhaul branding, and it took me 4 hours and countless trips to auto parts stores to no avail, I ended up getting the part at the Uhaul of Park Slope, Brooklyn, where they were much more knowledgeable and professional than the 23rd street location. 23rd st location employees operate as if they have had no training whatsoever. Awful experience. Train your employees. Manage your inventory better.

Online I was able to rent a van and get the 16$ insurance coverage but when I went to the location, the women told me that i was required to get the 25$ for the insurance the vehicle. This should be more clear when booking online. Also every time I call to make a one way reservation, the location calls me shortly after to require to bring it back to that location. Due to the fact that its so hard to park a uhaul in the city, it's more beneficial for me to drop the Uhaul off immediately at the nearest location after usage. Everytime I get a Uhaul I get a parking ticket. If its like this the next time, I am simply going to go for a different moving company because it is simply too hard to plan and gets too expensive. Also what is the point of me checking in and submitting my information online if i have to do the same process in the store.

The price advertised was way off from the actual costs. Don't advertise $19.95 in NYC if there's an extra mandatory 15 charge on ALL rentals... then the cost advertised should be the actual cost. and the man who I dropped the van off with was so rude and didn't explain anything to me. Pickup and drop off is so easy but

The guy that checked me in was ignorant. I drove in and followed the posted instructions by sitting in my vehicle. About 10minutes later he came over and asked if I was ready to be checked in. I said yes. He left. About 10 minutes later he opened the Passenger door and Riley stated that I needed to get out if I wanted him to check me out! This guy has no idea what customer service is. I don't know Uhaul procedures as I DON'T WORK THERE.

This is the worst uhaul experience. Even the manager of the location hung up the phone and then refused to answer it over the conduct of the employees. I will be reaching out to uhual corporate to make an official written complaint. I would love to see every employee at that location fired.

Improve Drop off after hours. I was able to do all the steps and it wasn't until i couldn't find the key drop box that I realized it's not available at the Chelsea location.

I had an overall good experience; unfortunately they ran out of trucks before my move and asked me to change my move to local (aka I had to return the truck to NYC rather than drive it one-way to NJ) which was not great but they discounted the milage for me which was helpful and much appreciated. I'd say to continue to kick in perks if you have to change the customer's plans.
