Adaptive Reuse in Poway, CA at U-Haul Moving & Storage of Poway
Building History
Built in 1961, the Poway Fun Bowl was a popular bowling and recreation site for nearly 18 years. The Poway Bowl was a family-owned and operated business with several bowling lanes, a snack bar and arcade bar.
Upon opening a new Fun Bowl just down the street, the original building sat empty until U-Haul acquired the property in 1979. By rehabilitating abandoned buildings, U-Haul supports infill development to meet citizens’ needs while preserving the natural resources and land normally required for new construction. U-Haul adapted the former bowling alley to provide moving and storage services for Poway, long called the "The City in the Country" due to Poway's rural roots. In August 2020 the second location of Poway Fun Bowl closed its doors permanently, due in part to the pandemic, as well as planned renovations for the new Carriage Center shopping area.
