I was required to drive 15 minutes out of the way to this particular U-Haul location instead of the numerous locations that were available in Gainesville, Florida. I needed to drop off this unit by 11 AM and when I showed up the location a little after 10am it was fenced off from the public with a barbed wire fence. This is located directly off of interstate I 75 in a pretty rural rundown area which didn’t feel overly safe. When I attempted to contact the location to get access to the lot, no one answered. I was able to pull off the road and call to a mechanic I could see from the fence that was an adjacent building and he came over and opened the fence for me and directed me down a grass two track to a dirt lot behind another building. I was sent there by myself with no one else to help unhook the U-Haul. I spent over 15 minutes, trying to get the U-Haul backed in where I was told to go and taken off the ball which it was too heavy for me and I couldn’t do it. It then started pouring rain in 90+ degree weather. Not fun. I had to hook the wires back up on the trailer and bring it back up to the mechanic and ask him to come over and help me which he did do. He was right in the middle of a repair job so I know he didn’t appreciate being interrupted, but I was unable to do it without some assistance. I think he realized it was harder to take off than he thought. He was kind enough but it felt like someone else should have been available to do this service. Overall, I would not recommend this location, especially for someone who isn’t comfortable with hooking and hooking a trailer or with the physical strength to do so. My past experiences with U-Haul have been very good so I was pretty surprised by this experience.
