Leigh G. | First ImpressionsAs far as the actual storage facility goes, this place was excellent. It felt very secure and I was confident my things were kept safely and wouldn't be damaged. The key card was very troublesome and had a problem everytime I visited the storage unit which was frustrating to say the least. The access times also didn't seem to line up with what the poster said so that was frustrating too. Many times I visited, there were no trollies available at all which made things unnecessarily difficult. Finally, not necessarily a comment on regards to the storage facility itself, but consider putting music in the office area. It is extremely uncomfortable to stand in an entirely silent room.
Mark M. | Overall ExperienceOnce we arrived in Calgary, we waited in line to return the truck. 20 minutes later, a U-Haul employee escorted us to the truck to check it over. He could barely speak or understand any english. He was a very pleasant person, but communication was quite difficult. Front line employees must be able to communicate in English. We always attempt to call the U-Haul closest to our location, but can never get them on the phone. It automatically transfers us to Arizona booking. Arizona does not know exactly what is going on in another location/country. We called ahead to book a cage for our couch but got transferred again to Arizona. When we got to the Calgary location, the staff said nothing was booked. This is after we stood in line for 40 minutes. The staff, Dornan, was great, but when we walked up to our cage, there was a lock on it. So we walked down stairs, again, and stood in line for another 30 minutes to get the staff to walk up to the cage and unlock it. By the time we finally got our couch moved to the 2nd floor cage and checked in our rental truck, it was 2 hours. We have always used U-haul in the past, but this was frustrating to say the least. The staff in Calgary were good, but overloaded with customers with this huge location. Secondly, the location in Edmonton, where we picked up our truck rental did not clean the truck before we picked up. There was dog hair all over the cab. The interior windows were very dirty. Some of our furniture had black marks all over them, and we found it came from the metal floor inside the truck box. Is there anything U-haul can apply on the metal to prevent these black marks from occurring? We do use blankets on our stuff, but maybe the staff could rinse the truck box out every 5 rentals or so. Anyway, the booking of the truck was good as the booker found us the closest location to our move, which was great . Thirdly, I gave my credit card to Satch, the U-haul operator in Edmonton. It was busy in the office and he did not give me the card back and I forgot to ask, as he was trying to assist 3 people at once. I left with the rental and drove to Calgary. The U-haul worker had both my phone numbers, but did not call me to inform me of my left credit card. He had my card for 4 days. After I call the Edmonton office and again got transferred to Arizona, they call Edmonton and found that he had my card. Why would he not call me the minute he found my credit card on his desk?? I cancelled my card out of fear of being lost. Most of my rentals have gone on without any issues, but this was a little much. thanks. Mike and family
MIKE Z. | First ImpressionsMy only concern was that the storage unit I had reserved was not available and I couldn't get an alternate of the same size. I will not be able to fit all of my stuff and that's disappointing. It's made it difficult to get the move done time-wise. I understand things don't always turn out the way we expect, so I'm taking it in stride. The free month helped ease the pain, it's appreciated and I will continue to use U-Haul.
Irene C. | First ImpressionsWell i got there while the office was closing but they atill managed to get me into my unit. After i unloaded the truck found out i hadn’t ordered a big enough unit so i had to leve my box spring leaning against my unit door. The following day i asked if i could get a bigger unit. They never had one bigger available but they managed to get me another unit for the rest of my stuff for free. I dont plan on stayin longer then a month so thanks for that.
Justin D. | Online Move InI was trying to move out the upper level and had a few large items to take to the dock While doing so your staff locked the large sliding doors 20 mins before 7pm. They were more interested in going home than meeting your customer needs We then had to use the service elevator to go down a floor then navigate through a number of corridors only to get our large items out through a man door. This would have been totally avoided if your staff maintained the your stated operating hours.
RIYAAZ D. | Overall ExperienceI wasn't ever able to reach this storage facility by phoning them. Luckily, when I called it would at least connect me to the 1 800 U-Haul line. The reps tried to have this storage facility contact me by sending them a message which I never received a call back. I would never store anything at this location again. When we moved out I couldn't even contact anyone to let them know we had left. Once again I was transferred to the 1800 U-Haul line when they didn't answer their phone. I explained we moved out that day (sept 1) and that our next bill date was Sept 2 and I wanted to ensure they didn't bill us for another month. The reps left notes on my account and yet still we were billed for another month and then sent an email telling us late charges had been applied. The GM is incompetent and I believe the place is understaffed considering they don't ever answer the phone.
