I paid for this U-Haul storage unit for over seven years while I was incarcerated, trusting that my belongings would be protected and secure. When I finally returned, I was devastated to find everything destroyed—rats had eaten through my clothes and important paperwork, and the unit was overrun with insects. It was clear that no proper pest control or maintenance had been done for years. I wasted thousands of dollars paying rent to preserve my property, only to come back to nothing. This was a complete failure of responsibility by U-Haul, and customers deserve far better oversight and protection of their stored property.
