Brian FThere was nobody there to help hitch the trailer. Just one person there very busy with other customers at their convenience and food business. U-Haul rentals is an incidental side business at that location. The trailer itself was in a sub-par condition. Within minutes of towing it from that location I realized that it was in need of service. It wobbled and vibrated so badly that it blurred my vision while driving - and I was in a GMC 2500HD truck. Not a lightweight vehicle. I drove from Athens, AL, to Decatur, AL, along HWY 31 (US31) and stopped at a U-Haul dealership on 6th Avenue in Decatur. They were very helpful. They called in to Road Service and the service people replaced three of the four wheels/tires on the trailer. They stated that the fourth wheel needed replacing too - but they had been instructed to replace just three!! After further conversation with Roadside Service, it was agreed that the fourth wheel/tire would be replaced too. As the service people had to go back to their base to get that fourth wheel/tire, they agreed to meet me at my residence later that afternoon. Which they did - and the fourth wheel/tire was replaced. After they had left I decided to check the tire pressures. All four were out of specification, two of them at what I considered to be dangerously low. They were at 35psi. The other two tires were at 45psi and 50 psi. Also low for their application. The tires had a maximum rating of 65psi. I inflated all four to 60psi which was sufficient for the load I was carrying. The following day I towed the loaded trailer over 600 miles without further incident. The whole point of this review is that this trailer needed repair BEFORE it was rented to me. U-Haul should have had this trailer taken out of service and repaired prior to renting it out again. I have a lot of experience towing trailers and knew there was something wrong and got it corrected. Someone with less experience than I may have had a serious accident. I was delayed and inconvenienced for several hours so it is just as well I rented the trailer a day before I was scheduled to travel. At the drop off location - that's another story given below!!
LESTER HI will not be using nor recommending Uhaul. I filled the gas tank well above where it was when we got the vehicle, I just found out UHaul charged me over $10 for a fuel charge. As much as UHaul charged me for the rental they didn’t need to cheat me out of more than $10.
