We dropped off the truck in Courtenay with everything done according to the contract - , within the time-frame, refilled gas tank, clean truck, within mileage allowed, no damage. We felt we did everything correctly. However, when we got to the actual drop-off location, when we opened the door to terrible, dingy and cluttered small office, young man told us they were closed and he did not work for U-Haul. He called the owner who told us to leave the truck and contact U-Haul the next morning. He was actually very rude. We gave the keys to the young man in the "closed" office and hoped for the best. The whole area around this location is like bad east-end location in big city. The TS Pitstop, as I mentioned, was dirty and messy and only the small sign outside designated this as U-Haul location. The worst thing was how uninterested and rude the owner was. I caught only his first name which is Tom. I had received other Uhaul addresses in Courtenay. while I was arranging the rental. I was surprised we were sent to this site after seeing it. I don't know why anyone would want to rent anything here, and certainly returning the truck here was something that created real feeling of distrust. Today I talked to someone in the Scheduling Department who told me no extra charges had been applied so everything was acceptable with our contract but all along I expected something crooked to emerge from the return of the truck given the location and attitude of the UHaul site and owner. I would certainly recommend UHaul drop this location and owner for the benefit of future customers.
