Five days in advance of the pick up date, I reserved a 10’ truck over the phone with this office, and gave a credit card number. Two days prior to pick up date, I reconfirmed the reservation. The day before the pick up date, on Sunday, this Eureka office called me to say they did NOT have the 10’ truck available, saying it had been recalled. On a Sunday? I was told that I could either drive 50 miles round trip to pick up a 10’ in another town, or take a 15’ at same rate. Since they add mileage charges, 50 more miles would take cost an additional fee. I opted for the 15’ truck. When I went to pick up truck, 3 guys were behind the counter. I was the only customer. They had two 10 foot trucks in their lot. When I asked about those two trucks, I was told they had overbooked. Recall or overbooked? When I asked the drop off location, I was told I had to call myself. So I called it while standing at the counter. I thought they might the three helpless young men might learn some customer service. It was quick and easy. Finally, they handed me keys after ringing up an exorbitant tab, over $400. They did not show me which truck was the one I rented. I had to go back inside to ask which truck, to which one of the guys made a major effort and pointed to one of several 15 footers in the lot. To improve customer service: 1. When a truck is reserved, it should be considered a commitment by uHaul. The truck should be ready & waiting for the customer at the prearranged appt. time. 2. If a truck is promised to a customer, but they fail to deliver it, uHail should transfer the promised sized truck from the nearest location (within 30 miles) rather than telling the customer to do extra driving and up the truck in another town themselves. 3. Small customer service considerations (such as identifying drop locations for the customer) should be done for the uHaul customer if requested. The only plus I can say about uHaul is that the truck did not brake down on the trip......this time.

The service at this location was first rate. From the beginning all through my rental time to the drop off. The location is well maintained with supplies and clean inside and out.

Three days ago I logged into and reserved a U-Haul pickup truck for 24 hours use beginning at 2:30 pm local time for Saturday 09/14 to return on 09/15. My master order number was 28019104. My eventual contract number was 97719227. When I arrived at the Eureka, CA center at 9:30 am for pick up of the truck, their computer listed a 10 foot van. The staff person thought that there must have been a glitch in the system as the 10 foot van is the default setting for on line rental. There were no pickup trucks available until 2:30 pm, so I had to settle for returning at that time. This resulted in a 14 mile wasted trip for me and I had to change my moving use of the truck for this rental process. When I returned at 2:30 pm, the local staff then had considerable trouble with the U-Haul computer system which resulted in further delay of my local moving plans. I believe the local staff did everything in their power to fix the situation but were limited by U-Haul computer network. I would suggest getting after your tech support people. I do not now trust the online reservation system and the delays and misinformation that it caused.

The truck was very clean and drove great but the dolly we rented the first day wasn't. We had to stop and put air in one of the tires, it was so low. And the plastic piece over the tire was cracked in 3 places and faced outward a bit, almost rubbing on the tire and not placed straight over like the other one. We went slow and watch it for awhile but it didn't seem to affect how it handled so we were ok with it. Also they didn't try to say we did it so we were really okay with that. The staff were wonderful.

I had reserved a dolly and the reservation confirmation reminded me that I had reserved a dolly and all was ready for me at pickup. Upon my arrival, there was no dolly available. Is there a better way to ensure ordered items are available if reserved? One concern I have (and would appreciate a response from U-Haul about it) is in photographing my drivers license with the staff's personal cell phone. I would feel more comfortable if there was a U-Haul company tablet or device, if you must take photos of sensitive personal information like a drivers license or I.D. Although the clerk assured us that her personal cell phone doesn't store the images of my drivers license, I would have felt much better if U-Haul wasn't conducting its business via an employee's personal cell phone, and instead provided its employees with a company device that looked, well, professional.

The employees were great. However, the call-center reservation and after-hours drop-off were abysmal. The truck I reserved over the phone was not available when I arrived. I never received any of the promised texts or emails confirming my reservation. The on-site employee helped me start a new contract for an alternative rental option (cargo van). When I returned with the van for the after hours drop off, the online app would not recognize my location. I was unable to continue the return process. It was pitch black at the location which is in a unsafe area of town. As a lone woman wandering around the lot attempting to unsuccessfully locate the UNMARKED key drop box, I felt extremely uncomfortable. I then attempted to call customer service for assistance because I did not want to be charged the late return fee as I WAS NOT LATE. However, I spent nearly AN HOUR waiting on hold. I was about to leave (furious by this point) when a very curt and unhelpful person answered. She never asked if I was okay, and didn’t bother to ask my name or take my contract number. It was a total waste of my time and put my in a dangerous situation in that parking lot. You should have a backup for app failures, and the rental location should HAVE THEIR KEY DROP BOX CLEARLY MARKED (i.e. as shown in the instructional video on your website).

They rented defective equipment that had a brake fluid leak. this shows a complete lack of checking the equipment properly before renting it out. Also your customer service department is atrocious and should all be fired. Renting defective equipment was never looked at as dangerous to me and my friend and one person said we would have to drive the empty defective equipment back to Eureka. I will never recommend Uhaul services to anyone ever again. A complete disaster of a customer service department and atrocious
