I made a reservation for a 10 foot truck on July 25th to be picked up on August 1st. On July 31st I was contacted by U-Haul saying that they were not able to fill my reservation and to contact them. I contacted them and was told that there would not be a 10 foot truck available for pick up the next day, the nearest 10 foot truck would be in a town approximately one hour away. I spoke to another U-Haul employee who told me that they could have a 15 foot track available where I was originally supposed to pick up the 10 foot truck. They then offered me $150 discount due to them having to change the size of truck that I have originally rented. This reservation was confirmed by U-Haul.The following day I went to the pick up site, and upon arrival was told that there were no trucks available! I was informed that this was the busiest moving weekend of the year, due to students returning to college and that “U-Haul had overbooked “U-Haul management/corporation was contacted by phone and I was again informed that there were no trucks within a two hour range available to fill my reservation. After further discussion, I was informed that there was a 20 foot truck available approximately one and a half hour away. (I had originally reserved a 10 ft truck, was then offered a 15 foot truck, and now being offered a 20 foot truck!) as I had scheduled help to come pack the truck. I had to take the 20 foot truck! I was told that they would honor the $150 discount and add additional miles since I had to travel almost an hour and a half to go pick the truck up.As I was headed out of town to go pick up this 20 foot truck, I myself contacted a U-Haul rental place in a town less than an hour away and was informed that yes they had a 10 foot truck available and that I could pick it up as soon as I got there, however, the local dealer stated he could not authorize the $150.00 discount and additional miles, so I called U-Haul back and told them that I’m myself is located a 10 foot truck and that I was headed out of town to go pick up that truck, and requested that they honor the discount that I was offered as well as the additional miles. I was told that they would not honor the $150.00 discount since I had located a 10 foot truck, which was the original size of the truck that I had reserved! I couldn’t believe that U-Haul would not honor the $150.00 discounts, since the entire debacle was the fault of U-Haul. U-haul is Aware of their busiest weekend/weekends of the year and it is their responsibility to manage reservations. U-Haul management was not helpful in locating a rental truck in the size that I requested and in the town closest to where I was moving from and because I had to travel almost an hour away to pick up the 10 foot truck, this made me late for another appointment that I had scheduled on that same day. U-haul needs to make this right! The local dealers that I dealt with—They were all very nice and helpful, it’s not their fault that U-Haul over books!
