I reserved a truck at another location. UHaul customer service called me and asked me to switch to this location. I asked if they didn’t have the truck at my originally requested location and was told no, it was because this was a newer location and they’re trying to disperse people to that one because it’s not as busy and so “people get used to using it”. I was told they would refund me $50 to use this other location. I agreed and drove an additional 4 miles to pick up the truck. When I get there, there’s a sign that says “Closed, be back at 12:30” I reserved the truck for pick up at 12:00. I knock on the door and someone yells “ In a meeting!” I call customer service back and let them know what’s going on. I ask to go back to original location and woman on the phone won’t help me do this and insists I don’t need to deal with person inside the office, has me sit in my car and do the check-in process on the phone. She then tells me they don’t have one of the furniture dollies that I booked, but I could go to a 3rd location to pick that up. I told her they should waive the fee for it since I had to go to another location to pick it up snd she said “ there’s no way for us to do that”. Terrible customer service from both the Uhaul rep and the location manager / owner. It’s an odd and unreliable practice to call people and ask them to switch locations the morning of and not be aware of operating hours or product availability. Also, the on site manager, yelling at patrons through the door, I understand there was a sign but the meeting was eating into my reservation time and I was not told prior I had to check in over the phone, so I had questions on how to get the keys.
