Lynn EMy only issue was the fact that I did not pickup a vehicle with a full tank of gas. I expected a full tank for my ease, convenience and efficency. Instead I was given a tank with less than half a tank and left to figure out myself how to avoid not over filling and ending my trip at the other end with the right amount of fuel. Of course I overfilled and ended up giving U-Haul in Ottawa a quarter tank of extra fuel ($30 worth)! I am not a happy camper. No one could tell me how much fuel I will likely use to drive to Ottawa from Peterborough (didn't expect them to) and with the way the fuel gauge needle was moving in the first 15 minutes I drove the vehicle upon pickup in Peterborough, it looked like it was going to a fuel sucking vehicle, so figured a better play it safe and fill it up before leaving for Ottawa. It turned out to be a rather fuel efficent vehicle and I did not need to have filled it up...but how could I know that? I have never used a vehicle like this before! The whole situation could have been avoided if I was given a full tank before I started. Anything less is unacceptable. I even asked the staffers about this issue before I left the office and was told that beacuse so many people bring back vehicle with less than full tanks that it is basically too much of a hassle to keep them full, I will get what it has in it and that is my only option. My experience has now shown that because U-Haul can't deal with the situation, the hassle, frustration and inconvenience will be passed on to the customer and let them figure out how to manage the unknown fuel needs. This only results in poor customer service, frustration and a poor experience for the customer. This is why I flagged the issue at the outset because it made no sense to start with anything less than a full tank. I'm not saying I was not warned about don't over fill because I will not be reimbursed and I was given a handy dandy sheet that would assist me in just putting in the right amount, if I was under the fill mark, but I was still left to figure out how much to put in, knowing only, that less than half a tank would not likely get me to my destination in one shot, so I should start by putting in a little bit and see how that does and then stop and put in a little more and so on? I think not. I did what should have been done at the start...fill the tank, do it once and do the trip. If this had been done in my case, I would have picked up my vehicle (full), done my trip and filled up at the other end. One pickup, one trip, one fillup, done! Instead, I had to guess, played it safe, guessed wrong and wasted/lost $30...result, I lose...U-Haul wins. Great game, but I don't like the rules.
Richard SThe U-Haul associate that set up my rental was fantastic. She was very knowledgeable and friendly. Will definitely be back to this location when I need moving equipment/supplies.
