I am deeply disappointed with my recent experience with U-Haul. After renting a truck during the busy holiday season, I accidentally forgot to extend my rental period for a third time. I had already extended it twice—once over the phone and once via email. With everything going on during Christmas and New Year's, it was an easy oversight. To my shock, U-Haul acted impulsively and reported the truck as stolen, leading to my arrest and the need to post a $1300 bond. This was not only traumatic but also financially burdensome. What’s more frustrating is that I have a stellar rental history with U-Haul, having never faced any issues in the past. U-Haul’s failure to communicate was appalling. They didn’t send a demand letter or even leave a voicemail to inform me of the urgency of the situation. Had they done so, I would have understood the seriousness and could have returned the truck without any hassle. Instead, I was left to face a horrible and costly experience that could have been easily avoided. I urge U-Haul to reconsider their protocols and adopt a more reasonable approach to communication with their customers.
